Police sirens rented the air, breaking the silence of the night. They drove at top speed behind Scarlet’s car towards the crime scene. Someone had been shot.

Scarlet had called the cops when she heard the gunshot over the phone. She didn’t like Aurora one bit, but she didn’t wish death on her, especially not at the hand of her own son.

Mr Whitlock had been with her when she called. He had seen her car parked outside the restaurant and knew something was happening inside.
