6: Mu Ji Yang

Ruan Yu was sure that she had found her Divine Demon. When he stood up and left the hall, Ruan Yu pursued shortly after the groom arrived.

Ruan Yu moved, passing by the groom whose face was covered in a white wedding veil tainted with red. She moved quickly, hoping not to lose him before he escaped. He must have guessed that she had already figured him out, that was why he left the room so quickly.

The young royal minister of the Mu house hurried toward one of his golden carriages with his personal bodyguard. His carriage had been moved close to the back of the Silk Jade Court to prevent him from walking a long distance as he needed to be somewhere immediately.

One foot on the wooden step up the carriage, Ji Yang stiffened and dodged a poisonous star-shaped weapon with sharp edges by an inch. The weapon grazed his left cheek as he moved before stabbing the body of his carriage. His loyal bodyguard swung into action by pulling out his sword and taking a protective stance before his master.

Ji Yang’s eyes widened in disbelief, his heart pounding a thousand beats per second as he had just narrowly escaped death by an inch. He touched his face when he felt a warm sensation spread all over his left cheek. He removed his hand and saw blood on his fingertips.

Ji Yang turned immediately to see who had just attacked him and he turned to see the pretty lady he had been admiring a while ago in the hall.

Ji Yang stared up at the woman in shock and confusion. Tears clouded his deep brown gaze as Ruan Yu lowered herself carefully with her lightless skill before them. Ji Yang looked too shocked to speak and when his bodyguard wanted to attack her, he held him back and stepped forward to understand why a beautiful lady like her would suddenly bare her claws at him for no reason.

He meant no harm when he had been staring at her shamelessly a while ago. He just simply admired how different she looked but he wasn’t bold enough to meet with her and tell her how he felt about her.

‘’Young Miss?’’ His voice was soft and light like a feather. At first glance, he didn’t look capable of hurting a fly, let alone him being a demon.

Ruan Yu’s eyes narrowed on the young minister, refusing to be deceived by his innocent looks.

‘’Have I… met and offended you before?’’

Ruan Yu turned on the spot. He was definitely good at playing innocent when it was obvious that she had already caught him and she looked determined to not let him escape.

They were currently at one of the isolated courtyards of the Silk Jade Court. No one but horses and carriages moved in this place. It was a perfect place to slay a powerful demon without holding any of her abilities back.

‘’Little demon.’’

‘’Where are you going to?’’

Ji Yang’s eyes flickered in confusion as he stared at the young lady. She appeared to be from a noble home but apparently lacked the manners and delicate style of a noble lady.

‘’Demon?’’ He looked genuinely flustered. ‘’Who are you calling a demon?’’

No one said anything and it only made his private bodyguard become more impatient to slay this lady that dared to hurt his young master under his watch.

Ji Yang then scoffed, his hand moving nervously around his hand fan.

‘’Young Miss. Was it because I was staring at you so intensely back at the wedding hall and you instantly assumed that I might be a demon?’’

It was even more ridiculous saying it out loud than to think about it. Ruan Yu held her stance, ready to take down this creature trying to talk his way out of his death. Ji Yang raised a questioning eyebrow when the woman did nothing but give him that cold look.

Her eyes moved from his face and fell on the suspicious talisman strapped around the minister's waist.

‘’You are wearing a Grade A talisman.’’

Ji Yang stared down at the golden rope tied around his waist as if noticing it for the very first time.

‘’Do you have any idea what that talisman you are wearing on you does?’’

Of course, the minister knew what his Grade A Spirit-Concealing Protection Talisman did to him while wearing it, but he refused to answer out of curiosity about what that young lady before him thought was the purpose of his talisman.

‘’What is its purpose?’’

Ruan Yu couldn’t believe this divine demon. Not only was he good at feigning innocence and hiding his true nature under their noses for so long, but he was the best when it comes to pretending to be oblivious.

‘’That talisman you are wearing on you, when infused with enough spiritual energy, can be used to conceal one’s soul scent and true form.’’

Ji Yang blinked and turned to lock eyes with his bodyguard for a moment.

‘’I have seen that devilish thing being used before to conceal one’s divine nature and energy. You are probably a divine being that was sent out from Fate Heaven many years ago to live as an earth demon in the mortal realm as your tribulation.’’

The more she spoke the more Ji Yang looked overwhelmed, not understanding a bit of anything she was saying.

‘’Isn’t it?’’

Ji Yang opened his mouth to speak but Ruan Yu stepped forward and said the worst of it all.

‘’You tore down the barrier we set up around the capital city hours before the wedding and allowed all sorts of demons in. You also instructed them to plant dead flowers all over the capital.”

'What?'

“Which I have already deduced was all part of your scheme to achieve something even more sinister.”

“How dare you.” The bodyguard growled at the woman accusing his master of grave things. He pulled out his sword a bit from its sheet, his dark eyes on Ruan Yu with murderous intent.

But Ruan Yu was not intimidated by someone she could take down easily in one strike.

“Tell me what your evil plans are and your intentions in the capital city!”

Silence.

Ji Yang stared at the woman in a mixture of disbelief and awe. She really believed he was a demon with evil intents simply because he was wearing on him a special grade talisman.

Ji Yang tried to understand her but couldn't.

A demon?

Hell, he failed to form a golden core years ago when his parents forced him to train under the Moonlight Sect at age five. He was powerless and had no magical skills.

He was weak and would die soon and could only rely on the strength and protection of his faithful guard.

Ji Yang’s perfectly shaped brow narrowed at the woman as he tried to remain calm and not escalate things.

Does she even know who I am to be saying such things to me?

He stared at her properly for the first time today and noticed something unusual about her too. She didn't look like a normal cultivator with magical powers. She looked different, and he thought he had also seen her somewhere before.

“Young Miss,” he began calmly and the guard before him thought his master was too kind to continue to talk to her in a civil way. “I think there has been a misunderstanding between us.”

“I am not a demon.” Ji Yang raised his hands apart as if he wanted to be searched from head to toe. “I don't even have a single magical power on me. I am just the humble head of the Mu house and a government official scheduled to die soon.”

'Lies.'

Ruan Yu pulled out more of those poisonous star-shaped weapons slowly from her dress, preparing for the worst.

“I have a divine doctor that gave me this talisman to prolong my existence until I have pulled my entire family back together. The purpose of this talisman is to mask my aura from the god of death himself so I would not be found by him until I am ready to die.”

Ruan Yu scoffed and smiled in disbelief.

A Divine doctor?

He was wearing that to escape death?

She would rather believe he was indeed the Divine demon than that nonsense he was spitting out of his mouth. There was no medicine, talisman, artifact or magic that was capable of stopping a person from dying.

“Alright.” Her voice echoed and an ominous chill resonated around them. The pacing of the weather picked up as Ruan Yu decided to rather put an end to this demon quickly since he had refused to confess his sins.

Her eyes flickered over to the minister and darkened as she prepared to attack.

“I will be doing death a favour by claiming your life tonight,” she said, while drawing her karmic blades out of thin air with her magic.
