Bruce didn’t sleep. The voice echoed in his head again and again, calm and merciless, like a verdict already passed. System initialization: 3%… 7%… 12%… “What system?” Bruce whispered.
The prison cell was dark. Damp. The faint stench of sweat and iron clung to the air. Somewhere down the corridor, someone was screaming, either in pain or madness.
Heavenbreak Legacy is not a system. It is an inheritance.
Bruce clenched his fists. “Inheritance from who?”
Silence. Then, I don't think you are qualified to know yet.
Bruce exhaled slowly. “Then why awaken now?” Because you were abandoned, because you endured, because you chose hell instead of kneeling.
Bruce’s jaw tightened. “So suffering is the price?”
Suffering is the entrance f*e.
Footsteps approached. Bruce’s eyes snapped open. The cell door creaked, and the older man from the yard stepped inside as if guards didn’t exist.
His cane tapped softly against the floor. “You’re awake,” the old man said.
“I never slept,” Bruce replied. “You drugged me?”
The older man chuckled. “If I wanted you unconscious, you’d still be dreaming of your foster family.”
Bruce sat up sharply. “You know about them.”
“I know about betrayal,” the old man said calmly. “Sit.”
Bruce didn’t move. “What do you want from me?” Bruce asked. “You saved me once. That doesn’t make you my master.”
The older man’s eyes gleamed. “You want to walk out of here alive?”
“Yes.”
“You want power?” the old man continued.
Bruce hesitated. “…Yes.”
“You want revenge?”
The word landed like a hammer. Bruce’s voice dropped. “I want justice.”
The older man smiled thinly. “That’s what fools call revenge when they’re still afraid of it.”
He tapped his cane once. Pain exploded in Bruce’s chest. Bruce gasped, collapsing to his knees. His veins burned as if molten iron had been poured through them.
“What—are—you—doing?” Bruce forced out.
“Opening your eyes,” the old man replied. “Look.”
Bruce screamed. A translucent panel flared into existence before him.
Heavenbreak Legacy — Phase One
State: Dormant Awakening
Mind: Stable
Will: Abnormally High
Bruce stared. “This is… inside me?”
“Yes,” the old man said. “And it’s angry.”
“Why?”
“Because it was sealed,” the old man replied. “And seals do not like cowards.”
Bruce laughed bitterly through the pain. “Then it chose the wrong person.”
The older man’s smile vanished. “No,” he said coldly. “It chose the only one who didn’t beg.”
The pain intensified, and Bruce slammed his fist into the ground. “Enough! If you’re going to kill me, do it!”
The older man leaned down until his face was inches away. “Your foster father thought the same,” he said quietly. “He thought breaking you would end you.”
Bruce froze. “…What?”
The older man straightened. “Your suffering didn’t begin with prison. Prison was simply honest about it.”
Bruce’s hands trembled. “Who are you?”
“A dead man,” the old man replied. “And if you survive… your first teacher.”
Bruce swallowed hard. “Survive what?”
The older man tapped his cane again.
The panel shifted.
Trial One: Meridian Reforging
Failure Outcome: Permanent Crippling
Bruce stared in disbelief. “You’re insane.”
“Yes,” the old man agreed. “That’s why I’m qualified.”
The cell door suddenly rattled.
“Old man!” a guard shouted. “Get out!”
The older man ignored him.
“Listen carefully,” he said to Bruce. “Your body was damaged long ago. Not in prison. Before that.”
Bruce shook his head. “I was healthy.”
“You were suppressed,” the old man corrected. “Slow poison. Subtle. Designed to weaken your bloodline without killing you.”
Bruce’s breath hitched. “My parents…”
“Did not die accidentally,” the old man finished.
Silence slammed into the cell.
Bruce’s voice was hoarse. “Say it again.”
The older man didn’t. He turned toward the door. “You have three days before the trial activates completely. Train your will. Or die screaming.”
“Wait!” Bruce shouted. “How do I train?”
The older man paused. “You endure.”
Then he was gone. The first beating came that afternoon. Three inmates cornered Bruce in the shower room. “You got lucky yesterday,” one sneered. “Old freak won’t always be watching.”
Bruce raised his hands. “I don’t want trouble.”
They laughed. “Too bad.”
The first punch landed. Then something strange happened. Bruce felt it. A pull. A hunger. When the second man swung, Bruce caught his wrist, instinctively, and twisted.
The scream echoed. Bruce froze. “I didn’t.”
The third man lunged. Bruce moved again. Too fast. The man slammed into the wall, gasping. Bruce staggered back, heart pounding. “What… what did I do?”
A whisper echoed in his mind. Fate Fragment acquired, Minor Strength Increase Detected.
Bruce’s eyes widened. “You’re stealing from them.”
They attacked. You survived. The world is fair.
Bruce looked at the fallen men. For the first time, fear wasn’t directed at him. He directed it. That night, Bruce sat on his bunk, fists clenched. “If I keep using this,” he murmured, “what happens to me?”
The older man’s voice echoed faintly, as if from memory. Power always collects interest.
Bruce closed his eyes. Outside the cell, guards whispered nervously. “Did you hear?”
“That kid from Cell 47…”
“He broke a man’s arm without trying.”
Far above the prison, unseen clouds rolled. Something ancient shifted its gaze. And in the darkness, the Heavenbreak Legacy pulsed, hungry, patient, and awake. Trial countdown: 72 hours.
Bruce opened his eyes. “Fine,” he said quietly. “Teach me how to survive.”
But deep inside, a more dangerous thought surfaced: If I survive… I won’t kneel to anyone ever again.

CHAPTER 7 — SHADOWS AND CHAINS

Bruce felt it before he saw it, a ripple in the very air, a subtle warning: they were coming.Tian’s footsteps were soft behind him, yet deliberate. “You’ve drawn attention,” he said. “More than you realize.”Bruce didn’t respond. External threat remains—bond is under surveillance.Bruce’s gaze shot skyward. Somewhere beyond the prison walls, someone was watching. Someone had taken an interest in Luna. He gritted his teeth. “So that’s how it’s going to be.”Tian’s voice came quietly behind him. “You can’t act outside yet. The prison’s rules still apply.”Bruce didn’t flinch. “Then I’ll bend the rules.”A whistle pierced the air. Warden Graves stepped onto the arena ledge, silver insignia glinting under the harsh lights. “You think you can defy me?” he asked. “You think a single inmate can change the hierarchy?”Bruce smirked. “I’m not a single inmate.”Graves’ eyes narrowed. “Oh? Enlighten me.”Bruce glanced at the surrounding runes, fractured from his last clash, and whispered, “You’ll see.”The a
CHAPTER 5 — WHEN A NAME BECOMES A WARNING
The prison went quiet. Not the normal kind of quiet, no distant shouts, no clanging metal, no muttered curses. This silence was alert.Bruce felt it the moment he stepped back into the main cellblock. Heads turned. Conversations died mid-sentence.A man dropped his spoon. Another inmate slowly backed away as Bruce passed, eyes wide, palms open as if facing a wild animal. Bruce leaned closer to Tian. “Why is everyone staring?”Tian didn’t slow his pace. “Because your name just circulated.”Bruce frowned. “My name isn’t famous.”“It is now,” Tian said. “Red Status inmates don’t stay anonymous.”A voice echoed from above. “Inmate Bruce Kane.”Bruce looked up. The intercom crackled again. “Report to Yard C. Immediately.”Murmurs erupted. “Yard C?”“That’s not a yard, that’s a slaughter pit.”“Who pissed off the warden this badly?”Bruce exhaled slowly. “That sounds welcoming.”Tian stopped walking. Bruce turned. “You’re not coming?”Tian shook his head. “This one is yours.”Bruce studied

His fists were still clenched. His breathing is uneven—power, raw and unfinished, coiled inside him like a living thing.“You said this wasn’t your doing,” Bruce said. “Then tell me why I feel like I just crossed a line I can’t step back from.”Tian met his gaze. “Because you did.”The walls trembled. Cracks spread through the glowing symbols, light bleeding out like dying veins. Bruce glanced around. “That thing you said the prison suppressed… is it waking up?”Tian’s grip tightened on his cane. “It’s already awake.”A deep thud echoed from somewhere far below. Then another. Bruce swallowed. “That doesn’t sound human.”“It isn’t,” Tian replied. “And if you stay here, it will smell you.”Bruce scoffed weakly. “Smell me?”Tian didn’t answer. He turned and walked. Bruce followed. They moved through a narrow passag
