"Hold still," Yeon Arin said flatly.

The blue-robed martial artist blinked in confusion as faint runes shimmered beneath their feet and the alley dissolved into threads of light. AETHER STEP – Spatial Distortion. Space folded soundlessly and a heartbeat later, the two stood inside the dim room of the Eastern Wall Inn. The same candle still burned on the table where Arin had left it. The blue-robed man staggered, clutching his side while his eyes darted from wall to wall in disbelief.

"What... what was that?" he gasped.

"Travel," Arin replied, closing the spatial circle with a flick of his fingers. "Now sit. You are bleeding on my floor."

The man obeyed, his breathing uneven and his sword arm trembling. Arin studied him without sympathy, his gaze cold and measuring as he assessed the extent of the wounds.

"I do not keep useless people," he said quietly. "If you plan to follow me, know that mercy is not among my habits."

The wounded man looked up, determination flickering behind his exhaustion. "Then I will make myself useful. Even if it costs my life."

Arin's expression did not change. "Words are cheap. I have heard dying men promise eternity for another breath."

"I am not promising eternity," the man replied steadily. "Only purpose."

Silence settled over the room while Arin leaned back slightly, the faint hum of mana still vibrating in the air from the teleportation. The man drew a deep breath, forcing steadiness into his voice.

"My name is Jin Ryeo." He hesitated, as if speaking the name itself carried weight. "I am... was... the young master of the Mount Hwagyeong Sword Sect."

Arin said nothing, waiting.

Jin Ryeo continued, his words growing harder as emotion crept through them. "Our mountain stands on the southern border of the Alliance's lands. Once, our swords mirrored lightning on the slopes. Now the halls echo only with wind." His voice hardened further. "The elders are dead and missing. Our disciples are scattered. My father vanished after the last council meeting in Hwagok City. The Alliance called it an accident, but we know they arranged it."

Arin watched his trembling hands, fingers curled around the sheath of a broken sword. The man's aura flickered like a dying flame.

"So the rot spreads further than I thought," Arin murmured. "You seek vengeance then."

"I seek justice," Jin Ryeo answered, though his eyes betrayed how little he believed the distinction. "I know who conspired. The Alliance hid it, but we traced the orders through merchants and couriers. Someone high in their council wanted our fall."

"And yet you still breathe."

"Barely." Jin Ryeo gave a bitter smile. "Because I ran. Because surviving meant watching everything burn and hearing them call my father a traitor."

Arin's gaze lingered on the man's face. Grief sharpened into desperation. Useful, if tempered.

"You said you would do anything," Arin said, his voice dropping to something colder and more precise. "Understand what that means. If I command you to walk into the Alliance and die for a single distraction, you will do so."

"I will," Jin Ryeo answered without hesitation.

Arin tilted his head, eyes narrowing slightly. "Even if I never help you rebuild what you lost?"

The blue-robed man hesitated for only an instant. "Then at least help me punish those who destroyed it."

Arin rose from his chair, his cloak brushing across the floor as he moved toward the doorway. Shadows cut across his face, making his features impossible to read. His voice dropped to a calm whisper that carried like steel through the quiet room.

"I will use you for what I need—information, access, obedience. Nothing more."

"I understand," Jin Ryeo said. "Use me as you wish. Just promise that when the time comes, those who betrayed Mount Hwagyeong will die."

Arin did not turn back, his silhouette framed against the darkness of the hallway as his voice remained steady and absolute.

"They will."

"I will not return to Hwagok City yet," Arin murmured to himself as the threads of blue light carried him through the darkness. AETHER STEP had deposited him far beyond the city limits, in the open expanse of the Jungwon Plains where the cool night air swept across grasslands untouched by human settlement. His body was exhausted. The battle with Kang Myeong-ho had drained more of his reserves than he had anticipated. The newly awakened power was still unstable in places, the beast core energy not yet fully integrated with his mana channels. He needed rest. He needed time to meditate and allow his body to stabilize completely before facing the Lotus Palace. The original plan remains unchanged, Arin thought, moving across the plains with careful deliberation. The Lotus Palace will fall. But not today. Not while my power is still recovering from the confrontation. He walked for hours, the Jungwon Plains stretching endlessly before him under the stars. The cool air carried the scent of gr

"Will you surrender peacefully, or shall I be forced to restrain you?" Kang Myeong-ho asked, his hand already beginning to extend forward, reaching toward Arin's small frame with the confidence of someone who had never faced resistance they could not overcome. But in that exact moment, something shifted within Arin's consciousness. The chaotic energy swirling through his mana channels suddenly aligned, the wild beast core power synchronizing with his reawakened arcane abilities. The blue light surrounding him stabilized, coalescing into controlled patterns of devastating potential.Perfect, Arin thought, his eyes snapping open fully. The moment I needed. His hand moved with speed that transcended normal perception, and mana erupted from his body in response to his will. ARCANE BLAST – Wave of Annihilation, but this time channeled through forty percent of his previous archmage power, amplified by the absorbed beast cores, transformed into something far more destructive than anything th

  • Chapter 14: Awakening

"This cannot be real," the Alliance Leader whispered, his voice barely audible as he watched the transformation unfold before him. He stood motionless in the vault, his ancient eyes tracking every moment of Arin's metamorphosis. His name was Kang Myeong-ho, a man who had cultivated for nearly seventy years, and in all those decades, he had never witnessed anything like this. The first beast core dissolved into pure energy, flooding through Arin's veins like liquid fire. The pain transcended physical suffering, touching something deeper within his consciousness. Every nerve ending screamed in protest as the concentrated life force tore through his body, forcing pathways that had never been meant to accommodate such raw power. The second beast core followed. Then the third.Kang Myeong-ho's Ki pressure wavered slightly as he sensed the magnitude of what was occurring. The energy signature within the small boy's frame was escalating exponentially, climbing toward levels he had not encoun

  • Chapter 13: Weight of Reality

"This pressure," Arin gasped, his small body trembling against the vault wall. "It's Ki. Pure, concentrated Ki being weaponized as a force."The realization struck him like a blade through bone. The strange sensation he had felt was not some mystical phenomenon—it was the Alliance Leader's cultivated Ki, compressed and released with the precision of a master who had reached the Grandmaster realm. A martial artist's ultimate expression of power drawn from thousands of hours of meditation and cultivation.I was arrogant, Arin thought bitterly, his breath coming in shallow gasps as the pressure mounted around him. I believed my mana superior to their Ki. I believed my magic would be enough. I believed that in a world without magic, I would be a god among mortals. But standing here, pinned against cold stone by sheer pressure alone, unable to move more than a fraction of an inch, he understood the terrible truth. His current strength was pathetic. Insignificant. Utterly inadequate. A chil

"The guards won't see me," Arin whispered to himself as he approached the grand complex from the shadows. The night watch had changed exactly as predicted, and the outer walls stood nearly empty. He extended his hand and blue mana flickered between his fingers. ARCANE THREAD – Soul Weaving. The threads stretched outward, sensing the Ki signatures of the few remaining guards. Their presences glowed like distant flames in his awareness. Two on the eastern gate. One pacing the northern corridor. Three in the council chamber. None near the vault entrance.Arin moved forward, and the air around him shimmered. VEIL OF MIRAGE – Flesh Transmutation wrapped around his body, not to change his appearance but to bend light itself around him. "The Lotus Palace will fall," Arin said, standing alone in the small room at the Eastern Wall Inn. His eyes were fixed on the wall before him, though his mind was elsewhere entirely. "And I will bring them down alone."One spell, he thought, his fingers clenching into fists. I will walk to their mountain and unleash a single spell. Their sect will cease to exist. But even as the thought formed, doubt crept in. He had unleashed ARCANE BLAST – Wave of Annihilation against the crimson-robed fighters, and it had drained him severely. An entire sect would require far more power than he currently possessed. The disciples alone would number in the hundreds. The masters would present their own resistance.I am not strong enough, Arin admitted to himself, the words tasting like ash. Not yet.He moved to a shelf where a single scroll lay, unrolled and covered in his own handwriting. Notes about cultivation realms, the structure of Ki within living bodies.
