At Vasconcelos Company that afternoon, Celia stood tall while Gilson sat at his polished desk. Claudia, fixed at his side like a sentinel guarding her territory, glared daggers at the woman. It was at that precise moment Sandro entered, catching the final words of the CEO’s proclamation.

“Miss Soares, congratulations,” Gilson declared. “You’ve been approved. Please proceed to my daughter’s office for further details.”

“Oh, Mr. Vasconcelos, thank you so much for the opportunity!” Celia exclaimed with theatrical sweetness. “It will be a pleasure to work here again.”

The word “pleasure” was uttered with suggestion as she turned her gaze deliberately toward Claudia, whose fury trembled beneath her composed exterior.

Pivoting gracefully, Celia offered Sandro a knowing glance before gliding out of the room with regal poise.

“What on earth is going on here?” Sandro demanded.

“Katrina brought that harlot back into the company,” Claudia hissed. “Sometimes I wonder if she wasn’t James’s mistres

The memory faded, and Sandro found himself back in the library, Gilson still speaking, his words carrying a note of self-righteousness.“…What we must expect, above all, is that our employees keep their discretion, that they don’t turn our company into some Red-Light House or Corporate Motel. Don’t you agree, brother?”“Yes, of course,” Sandro replied after clearing his throat. “Though, unfortunately, I once stumbled upon such a case in the parking lot.”Gilson, feigning virtue, widened his eyes. “What an embarrassing situation for those involved. But don’t worry, Sandro, I’m wiser than that.”Sandro rose, reassured by the conversation. “Very well, brother. I see no reason to trust the word of a liar like Celia Soares. It’s no wonder she and Mark divorced.”Gilson stood too, laughing loudly. “Mark must thank Heaven every day for finding someone li

Jake lounged on the living room sofa of his apartment, eyes fixed on the television where an episode of ‘Times of Glory’ played. Behind him, Celia paced restlessly, phone pressed to her ear, her steps quick and agitated as she waited for someone to answer.Jake burst into laughter when the battle sequence began. “Look, darling! That’s me! Isn’t this scene incredible?”“Yes, darling, wonderful. You’re the best,” Celia murmured absently, barely glancing at the screen. “Pick up, Mary Ellen…” she whispered under her breath.A flat, automated voice cut through the room: The number you have dialed is outside the coverage area or turned off.Jake slapped his knee with delight. “Ha! Take that! Jeez, seeing the scene with all the CGI is something else. It feels like living the actual era… look at that BLOOD, it seems so real!”“Love, I need to go to Mary Ellen&

  • Chapter 812 Getting the Cook’s Number

Mark entered just as Julian spoke hastily, “—I didn’t serve your daughter pork ribs or anything heavy yesterday. She ate at the restaurant near her office.”Nadir slipped easily into the charade. “I only want a safe diet for my daughter. It’s her first child, and these scares drive me mad!”Mark frowned. “Mother? What are you doing here?”She turned on her heel, her attempt at casualness almost theatrical. “Julian phoned earlier about Briana’s condition, and I offered to come.”“Brie is better, ever since I arrived,” Mark replied.“That’s what Regis told me,” she said with a bright smile. “So I took the opportunity to drop by.”Julian, with his back to them, pulled a grimace of revolt. He knew she was twisting the truth. She had been in the house for quite some time, harassing him, but now she was pretending she had only just arr

The grand vestibule of the Vasconcelos Mansion echoed with the clipped footsteps of Gilson and Claudia as they entered, their voices already sharpened by disagreement. Claudia’s hands fluttered in agitation, her eyes flashing.“I’m telling you — we’ve hired a ticking time bomb!” she declared, her tone edged with panic.Gilson, by contrast, seemed maddeningly calm. “I honestly don’t understand where all this nervousness of yours is coming from, my dear.”At that moment, Sandro appeared at the foot of the staircase, dressed in his comfortable evening clothes and making his way toward the sitting room.“Good evening,” he greeted, pausing as he caught the tension in the air. “What are we discussing?”Claudia turned her fury on him, as though the entire problem had sprung from his existence. “The hiring of Celia Soares, what else? Perhaps you might remember you are the e

“I know,” Nadir said smoothly. “But you called my husband, and he could not come. So — I volunteered.”The final words, “I volunteered,” carried a weight that twisted ambiguously in Julian’s ears, their undertone undeniably suggestive.“You came to discuss the menu?” he asked quickly, seizing the most formal pretext. “Let’s go to the dining room.” Then, turning to the maid, he added, “Can you finish peeling the shrimp?”The girl nodded, silently thankful not to be drawn into what already promised to be a dangerous conversation.Julian entered the dining room with Nadir, his nerves on edge, and the first thing he did was shut the door so the maid in the kitchen would not overhear. He was the very picture of anxiety, his breath uneven as he turned on her.“Why so much caution, my young friend?” Nadir teased, though her eyes gleamed with a secret misc
