A Storm Brewing

Judging from the boy's stance, a single blow from him should send the boy fast asleep.

Good boy…

Ryu maniacally inched closer with the syringe, not taking Bain seriously. But then, something happened.

What?!!!

Ryu crossed his hands against his chest in defense. But it was already too late.

Boom!

He smashed into the fireplace, burning his ass on the fire below and having the boiling hot broth pour on his body.

Part of Ryu's face was burnt to a peel, with his mouth oozing blood.

This… This can't be!

He recognized the force that pushed him back.

The boy… The boy was an enhancer! But the boy had no weapon on him. So how could he release enhanced powers?

Wait!

Ryu's eyes darted about in transfixed shock.

The boy didn't need a weapon… His body was the weapon!

Terrible! Terrible!

Ryu squirmed amid his pain but soon revealed an excited smile.

Hahahahahaha~

It must be the world's will for him to run across such a perfect subject. So how could he let him go?

Pain? What pain?

Ryu didn't care about his broken left arm.

Like a zombie corpse, he pulled his body out of the fire and rose to his feet despite his pain.

The massive drum of water by the door was splashed on him, quenching his fiery clothes and skin.

Now, the famous silver-haired Ryu had only a few strands of hair and a very badly burnt face.

He blinked vigorously as the water fell.

And when he finally opened his eyes, the first thing he saw was a sharp light.

Too late!

.

Swish!

Ryu's eyes stared in catatonic stupor.

His body began twitching, his temperature running cold and his mouth gaped as though uncertain of whether to breathe or express his shock.

As for the culprit who caused his pain, the villain was now panting heavily while holding his precious farming scythe.

Pouf~

Ryu's hands subconsciously reached for his slashed neck, now sprinkling blood like a fountain.

"You!---"

Ryu couldn't believe it.

For 176 years, he has killed and murdered uncountable people with no fear. Even the 2 enhancers he met were finished off by him. So how could he be willing to die in the hands of such a weakling?

In the end, whether the boy was an enhancer himself or not, one thing was sure – He was still a newbie on the Mainland.

~Plop.

Ryu dropped to his knees, sending one trembling hand toward Bain.

'My inventions, my creations… I'm just this close to making a breakthrough!'

--Roar!!-

Ryu roared, twitching and spasming to no end.

Blame him for underestimating his opponent.

The boy looked like a weakling in every sense. But who would know he was such a monster within?

Not good!

Ryu felt his vision was getting blurry, his breathing staggering, his nostrils struggling to take in air, and his body failing.

He was unreconciled. But what could he do?

Feeling the heaviness on his eyelids, Ryu forcefully fell into a permanent state of slumber.

.

Safe.

Bain breathed heavily amidst his sweaty body.

He was safe for now, but this wasn't the time to feel happy just yet.

~Plop.

He fell to his knees, feeling his lower bendy become paralyzed. Had it not been for him being an Enhancer, the medicine would have paralyzed him before he could make a move.

Legs paralyzed, hands on the ground, Bain began crawling with all his might.

"Where is it? Where is it?"

His eyes darted about the small room hastily.

Found it!

(^0^)

His hands reached for the Flux pill bottle.

He had seen Ryu swallow 2 pills earlier, so he did the same just before his upper body became paralyzed.

~Bam!

Bain lay on the side of his chest, breathing heavily.

It has only been a day and a half since he got here. Yet, he had been targeted by 2 continuously with no breathing space.

'Mainland 01… I have to be more careful out here.' He warned himself while recalling the Aura training method his brother left him.

The technique wasn't a secret but a fundamental known to many.

However, Bain didn't know why his case had always been different.

From as far back as he could recall, he didn't need any weapon to portray his aura.

Such a thing was something many in the world yearn for. And with the constant warnings from his brother, he also learned how to channel his aura using a weapon.

[Remember my words, Bain… Unless forced to, never show use your body as an enhanced weapon! If possible, never reveal your identity as an enhancer too.]

Shinji's words were still fresh in his memory.

'Brother, I was forced this time.'

He was fortunate that last night just when he was about to save himself from the trafficking bandits, Ryu had stepped in. Because of this, Ryu had only thought of him as ordinary and weak.

Surprisingly, this worked well in his favor.

.

'Hey… since I woke up, no one has come to see Ryu.'

If this doctor was experimenting in secret, hopefully, this place was a secluded region far from wandering eyes. So he should be safe for the time being.

However, he couldn't stay here for long.

What if this Ryu had friends or clients who had to be him?

Worse yet, what if he was working with one of those monarchs?

So sleepy… So sleepy…

Bain had to admit he wasn't a strategist like his Shinji. He didn't like to think too hard on matters he won't get the answers to.

Well, what's done is done.

Bain had a bright smile on his face, happy to be alive.

He was an optimistic fellow who always looked on the bright side of things.

And since his body was once again calling him to rest, who was he to disobey?

What's more, there was plenty of food for him to eat after waking up later.

Bain had quickly thrown all matters concerning Ryu to the back of his mind, sleeping with a drooling grin on his face.

But little did he know that while times seemed peaceful on his side, far away, a certain man in black stabbed the edges of his table deeply. And surrounding him were his goons, all looking menacing.

Their object of focus, the one they call Silver-haired Ryu.
