The Ashcroft family a foreign family that had long established their name in Moone City with Peter Ashcroft being the owner of the renowned City Law Firm and a mysterious family member being the owner of the big Ashcroft Invests Co..

Ashcroft Invests was an enterprise that dealt in funding companies and also individuals for the profit of both. It is said that every company they funded did exceedingly well in business.

A relocation and not just creating a branch will develop the city massively.

Eyes were already on the news, seeking for when the time would be right to collaborate with them immediately.

In a very flash and smooth month, Ashcroft Invests Co. had relocated and registered itself in Moone City. They got into business immediately, throwing 32 slots of opportunities to fund companies and individuals.

In no time, companies and individuals had started throwing in their proposals, eager to get a chance to be one of the 32.

The Clayton family, which operated a sales business, naturally wanted to be part of the 32 too. Unfortunately, all their proposals had been turned down. All of it!

Back at home, Winter had also heard about the opportunity and wanted to send a proposal on their behalf. Who knows, if her proposal gets a chance, she might win her great grandfather over.

When she told this to Imelda and Jacob, they became so paranoid.

“Why do you need to send a proposal? It’s just a waste of time. If that Ashcroft company have turned down for the 22nd time, your family’s proposal, specially overseen by the all wise patriarch, do you think you are capable as an individual to impress them?”

Jacob was only stating the facts. “They wouldn’t even consider your last name.”

Winter said calmly. “But I am not proposing for myself as an individual. I am doing this for the Clayton Sales Group.”

Imelda rolled her eyes and raised her voice. “Your uncle, Howard, is a PhD holder in business administration. Your auntie Sophia is a two times masters holder in marketing and finance. Your great grandfather is a wise man and has lived a long life. And you? You just graduated from the university where you secretly studied law instead of office management your great grandfather paid for.”

“Compared to them, what capabilities and qualifications do you possess?”

Winter felt her heart squeeze.

“Grandma, you do not trust me?” Winter asked.

Imelda shook her head, sighing. “How do I trust you when this situation is above you? All of your relatives who are excellent and outstanding have written proposals with the guidance and sharp advice of your great grandfather yet they all tried it and failed.”

Winter felt reality hit her at that moment. Imelda was right. Nothing made her special or better than any of her relatives, so how could she succeed?

Just then, Robert came out from the kitchen and walked towards Winter. He looked at Imelda and said, “Grandma, you should believe in your granddaughter. Luck is what helps a person succeed in things like these most times.”

Imelda shot a disgusted glare at him. “Who is your grandma?”

“Besides, this has nothing to do with you. So do not talk,” she added.

But Winter had already caught on to what Robert said.

“Mr. Robert, are you sure about that? Luck?” She suddenly asked him.

Robert nodded with a smile on his face. “Believe me that your proposal will get selected.”

Imelda pulled Winter by her hand and dragged her away from Robert. “Heh! Don’t teach my granddaughter to be a failure like yourself. What luck?”

“Grandmother, stop. I had already decided to write a proposal even before now, so don’t pin it all on his words,” Winter stated, not liking it that Imelda was using this moment to insult him.

“So you are going to disobey me and your grandpa because your father is now here with you? Forgetting that when we were here with you for years he was not?” Imelda was talking incessantly.

Robert already had everything planned for his daughter. Beginning when she submits her proposal, her life will change for good. But this woman….

Robert shot Imelda a cold icy glare, threatening her with his eyes. If she doesn’t keep shut this instant…!

Feeling the hard intensity of his gaze, Imelda closed her mouth and let Winter’s hand go.

Robert then smiled, acting like he didn’t just stare daggers at the poor woman a few seconds ago. He turned to Jacob and said, “I only came to inform you all that dinner is ready.”

Then he looked over at Winter. “Can you give me a hand with the plates, dear.”

Winter nodded and followed behind.

Imelda gritted her teeth in anguish. “Jacob, I hate that man’s guts!”

“Take it easy, woman. You’re getting old. And don’t forget why we are here after all,” Jacob replied.

In the kitchen, Robert opened the pot and dished the food in four plates. He took off his apron, “I used to have a friend in high school and while I have been looking for a job for weeks now, I met him one of the days.”

Winter looked up at Robert, giving him her attention. “Really?”

Not like she cared. She didn’t.

“Yes. And he gave me a free slot in one of the 32 slots.”

Winter’s eyes instantly grew wide. “Really?” She was now very much interested.

Robert broke into a smile. “Yes. But I do not have a proposal to make to them that will benefit both of us. And it is a rule that they only give chances to companies and people who would benefit them in some way.”

“I do not also want to give away my slot to the Clayton’s. I do not owe them.”

Winter understood this. She was also aware of the humiliation the Clayton’s have caused to not just her father but also her and her grandparents.

But if she had the chance, she would give her slot to the Clayton’s because she had a favor she wanted to ask great grandfather. And only by winning his favor will she get her favor.

“So, what will you do with your slot?” She asked, sincerely curious.

Robert replied calmly, “I want to give it to you.”

Winter’s breath caught.

“Why? What if I give it away to the Clayton’s? You shouldn’t do that.”

Robert knew exactly what she was thinking. “What if after giving it to the Clayton’s, they do not show appreciation and choose not to repay you for such a great deed?”

Winter froze. She never thought of that, after all that family can be very ungrateful indeed.

“I… I guess I didn’t think of that,” she said honestly.

Robert smiled. “Then, tonight, let’s write a proposal to Ashcroft Invests, telling them to invest in you instead of in the Clayton’s business.”
