“Aiden, sir. My name is Aiden.” “Aiden…?” “Aiden Lawrence, sir.” Hannah darts a shocked look at Aiden. What the fuck is he doing telling her grandfather his real name? Her grandfather can get all his details in just a twinkle of an eye with that name! “I'll get going now, sir.” He bows. “I need to go too, grandfather. Mom will be worried if I stay another hour,” Hannah quickly gets up. “Of course, you need to go.” He pulls her behind. “Make sure to tell Aiden a lot of good things about your sister and make sure your sister agrees to marry any man named Aiden that approaches her.” Hannah nods. “Trust me. They're married already.” “That's it. You are so confident. I promise to get anything you want if you succeed in getting married.” “Allow me to study genetics in Harvard university,” Hannah says. “You cunning thing, get them married first,” her grandfather whispers. Hannah laughs. He doesn't know what is going on, does he? “Now, go show him out.” Five minutes la

Aiden muses as he looks at the turn of events. What a family. “Young man, shall we go to the sitting room? We might end up having a lengthy conversation,” grandfather tells Aiden. At a corner of the room, Hannah's eyes meet with Aiden and he smiles faintly at her. Hannah rushes back to the grandfather's sitting room where she slumps on the sofa. Who the fuck is Aiden? He almost gave her…no, he gave her a panic attack for real. If things turned out the other way round, forget about being one of grandfather's favorite grandkids, she'd have actually died for bringing Aiden here. “How many years have you being Master Lee's student?” She hears her grandfather's voice approach. What the fuck? Is that really a name? “Five years, sir,” Aiden says. “Five years? How did you manage to? The highest I have ever heard was a year and the man is actually dead now because o

“Do you all have a death wish?!” Grandfather thunders. “Get out!!” Everyone rushes out of the room. Aiden swings into action. He uses a few of his skills that he has used to save a couple of their dying men on the battle front. Ten seconds later, Alex sneezes. His breathing is uneven at first but Aiden places his hand on Alex's chest, muttering some words under his breath. Noticing goosebumps on Alex's body, Aiden swiftly pulls the blinds aside and opens the window. He goes back to Alex and pats him gently on the forehead before pulling off the blanket on Alex's body. Alex sneezes again. This time his eyes flutter open. Grandfather's walking stick falls from his hands. Alex has not opened his eyes for the past two weeks even with all the medication he has been given. “Daddy…” Alex mutters in a faint voice. “I'm hungry…” “You're—Alex?” Grandfather staggers to his son. Aiden quickly gets the walking stick and gives it to grandfather who doesn't collect it. The grandfather sta

He looks around to see who she shouted his name that loud but there is no one around. Just a little dog on a sofa with a lazy stare at the plasma TV. “Hey, I'm going to get annoyed if you don't run to me right now.” Hannah folds her arms, sulking. As if by magic, the dog jumps out of the sofa and crashes into Hannah, wailing its tail at Hannah's legs. Hannah crouches down and rubs the dog's head. “You have grown really big, huh. Did you miss me?” “Here we come again,” an elderly voice says across the room. Aiden raises his head. The grandfather has a big smile on his face that makes him look forty—not the eighty years old he actually is. He walks closer to them with his walking stick.“You are the only one I know who barges into my quarter without an appointment and without anything reasonable to say,” the old man says. “Don't pretend you don't like it, old man,” Hannah says in a friendly way that freaks the hell out of Aiden. But to his surprise, the grandfather roars in laug

Aiden nods. He glances at her. “You must promise me you won't tell anyone about this. Not Harper or Bryan or Mom or dad.” “They'll think I'm crazy if I mention it.”Exactly. That was why Aiden didn't bother. They'd probably think she's crazy for real if she tells them any of these. Thirty minutes later, the car pulls in front of a magnificent gate. A stern looking cop with a gun dappled across his shoulder stands in front of the car. “Tell him you are here to see grandfather,” Aiden tells Hannah as he winds down the window. “Hey, get out of the road,” Hannah snaps at the man. The man quickly bows and barks out commands for the man with the remote to let the car in. “I'm sorry, ma'am, I didn't know you were the one,” the cop tells Hannah as the car drives in. “How'd you know with that dumb head of yours?” Hannah spits back. “You don't have to be that mean,” Aiden mutters. “He deser

“Mom, Aiden has to drive me somewhere,” Hannah says. “Why Aiden? You could use the cab,” Harper says. “I'll drive her,” Aiden says. At the same time Harper's eyes meet with her mother's. Her mother gives her a look that seems to be asking her if she now understands what she has been trying to say. “Hannah, Aiden is my husband—”“I'll drive her, Harper. I'm okay with it.” Harper lets out an exasperated breath. When will Aiden come to his senses and stop behaving like this?!“Let's go, Hannah,” he says with excitement. Harper watches as the two of them go outside. “Is this the kind of man you want to show to grandfather?” Her mother asks behind them after the two left. “He'll only end up disgracing you. Look at the way he allowed Hannah to order him around without a single protest.”“I'll go for the blind dates,” Harper says, turning to her mother with a smile. “That's it, girl.

“Yeah. It couldn't be a coincidence that he had an accident and died.” She places a hand on Harper's shoulder. “Divorce Aiden. This is the best advice I can give you.” “I can't, mom. I'm sorry, I can't.” “Harper, you are placing both your career and Aiden's life on the line here. If your grandfather ever hears about this, Aiden will be dead.” She pats Harper again. “Go to work and think about it. Whichever one you think is better.” Outside, Aiden rushes back to the kitchen in his apron. He tries not to pant as he takes one of the dirty plates and starts washing. He listened to all the conversations between his wife and mother-in-law. Thanks to his stars, the door was slightly opened and he could easily see everything. He has to come up with a plan now. This is the time to make up for the shit he has caused Harper in the last couple of days and probably help her get over the shit that Wesley caused the other time. “What have

“Your father will be back probably today or tomorrow,” Mrs Lincoln says. “Yeah,” Harper says. It has been uncomfortable talking with anyone in the family since the incident of Wesley leaving them. Harper has purposely stopped speaking with Aiden because she has no idea what to tell him. They were not supposed to keep secrets like that from each other, plus, she totally believed all of Wesley's lies. “You had a nice sleep?” Her mother asks picking up a shoe from the shoe rack and put it back exactly where she took it. “Yeah.” “That's good, right?” Her mother smiles at her. “What is it?” Harper asks gently. She knows her mother won't call her here to ask about how her night went. “Dear, I understand how you feel but we all have to move on. I haven't heard from Wesley too,” Mrs Lincoln crosses over to her. Harper doesn't say anything. It's not like she has any
