Three
When the Tower first selected an individual to become a Ascender, the chosen person was forced through a brutal and painful transformation known as the First Awakening. This process marked the moment when an ordinary being stepped beyond the limits of normal existence and into the world governed by mana. From the moment of birth, every living creature in the world was endowed with three fundamental components. The body, the soul, and the mana pathway. The body was the most obvious. It was the physical vessel that allowed a creature to exist in the world, to move, eat, grow, and survive. Upon entering life, every species began learning how to use this vessel, though the time required for mastery differed wildly. Some animals could walk within minutes of birth. Humans, by comparison, required years before they could properly control their bodies. Hidden alongside the physical network of veins, arteries, and capillaries was something far more elusive. A metaphysical structure known as the mana pathway, sometimes called the mana circuit. Unlike the circulatory system, the mana pathway could not be seen, touched, or detected by ordinary means. Yet it was no less real. This invisible network was responsible for circulating mana, the mystical energy that powered spells, abilities, and every supernatural feat known to mankind. For most humans, this pathway remained sealed throughout childhood and adolescence. It lay dormant, like a locked channel waiting for permission to open. Only when the Tower of Ascension deemed someone worthy did it interfere, unsealing the mana circuit and allowing that person to experience mana for the first time. How the Tower made its selections remained one of the greatest mysteries of the age. Countless theories existed, but no one had ever found proof. The only certainty was that those chosen would never be the same again. The moment the mana circuit was unsealed, the First Awakening began. For many, it was the most traumatic experience of their lives. The body, unaccustomed to mana, reacted violently when the world’s natural energy flooded into the newly opened pathways. Some awakeners collapsed instantly, overwhelmed by the sudden influx. In extreme cases, the shock was fatal, and the person died before their awakening could stabilize. For those who survived, the sensation was impossible to fully describe. Mana rushed through channels that had never been used before, carrying unfamiliar sensations that ranged from burning heat to bone deep cold. Every nerve screamed as the body struggled to adapt. Despite differences in individual experiences, there was one constant shared by nearly all awakeners. Pain. As mana surged through the body, it reinforced and purified the physical form. This process forced impurities out through the pores in the form of a thick, foul smelling black gel. The substance clung to the skin, sticky and heavy, carrying toxins and waste that had accumulated within the body over a lifetime. The greater the quantity of this expelled substance, the more thoroughly the body had been cleansed. A Ascender who expelled large amounts of the black gel was believed to have superior long term potential, as their mana pathways were cleaner and more efficient from the very beginning. Such individuals found it easier to learn spells and cultivate mana in the future. However, the black gel was extremely dangerous. Highly toxic, it posed a severe risk to ordinary humans. Even brief contact could lead to serious infection or poisoning. Because of this, strict procedures surrounded every First Awakening. Across secondary and higher secondary schools worldwide, students were taught what to do if someone nearby began awakening. They were instructed to keep their distance and immediately call the Ascenders Association emergency line at 922. Trained healers would be dispatched to handle the situation safely. In Rhys’s case, that step was unnecessary. He was already inside the Tiger Guild when his awakening began. The guild maintained its own team of professional healers, fully equipped to handle even the most extreme cases. “Guildmaster, I have never seen someone expel this much black residue before,” Cassian said, disbelief clear in his voice. “It just keeps coming. He has already expelled two and a half kilograms, and there is no sign of it slowing down.” Even Ren looked surprised as he observed the scene. “The cleaner his mana pathways are from the start, the easier it will be for him to learn magic,” Joe commented, unable to fully hide the envy in his tone. “With this kind of foundation, he could have a future just as bright as his sister’s.” “It is far too early to judge his potential,” Emma replied calmly. “Talent alone does not determine success. Temperament matters just as much, if not more.” Though Emma was not a Ascender herself, her authority within the Tiger Guild was second only to Ren and the vice guildmaster. Her words carried weight. Several more minutes passed. Rhys expelled another half kilogram of black gel before the flow finally began to slow. Cassian, who had been working without pause, let out a breath of relief as he continued to cleanse and stabilize Rhys’s body. “His heart rate is steady,” Cassian said. “But after losing that much mass, he will be unconscious until morning at least. Still, it is impressive. He went from an undefined build to a properly chiseled physique in minutes.” “Do not exaggerate,” Emma said, watching Rhys carefully. “He was already in good shape. The awakening refined his body, but it is not as dramatic as you are making it sound.” “All right,” Ren said, bringing the discussion to an end. “Let him rest. He has endured enough for one night.” He turned to Cassian. “Monitor him regularly.” Then to Emma. “Bring him to me when he wakes tomorrow morning.” With that, the group dispersed, leaving Rhys to recover as the First Awakening concluded. --- Meanwhile, deep within Rhys’s subconscious. He found himself standing in an endless white expanse. There were no landmarks, no horizon, no visible source of light. The space stretched infinitely in every direction, formed entirely of smooth white walls that seemed to exist without purpose or boundary. Rhys looked around, unsure whether he was dreaming or trapped within some elaborate illusion. “Rhys Yadav. We finally meet.” The voice came from behind him. Rhys turned and found himself facing a man of striking appearance. He had deep blue eyes and a calm expression, framed by pure white wings that spread elegantly from his back. The sight stirred a sense of familiarity within Rhys. “You look like Dreavon,” he blurted out without thinking. The man smiled. “I am Dreavon.”Latest Chapter

News spread like wildfire within the school that Rhys had awakened as an Ascender.Having good looks and being the younger brother of the rising star Violet, Rhys was already a pretty popular figure in school albeit being famously cold and unapproachable. He maintained a very close circle of two male friends and never displayed much attention towards the girls in class which was why despite his good looks he was still single at 18, however, with the news of him awakening as an Ascender, his status within the school elevated dramatically as many surprising events took place at once.Belle Lita, the class beauty who had previously shown only lukewarm interest in Rhys and was famously involved with someone else, openly declared her longstanding affection for him during lunch break, becoming the focal point of even more chatter and sensational drama.Meanwhile, Rhys also found his desk filled with three love letters from other classmates, evidence of sudden, burgeoning interest that he ha

TenBefore going to bed, Rhys picked up his phone and immediately noticed the flood of missed calls and unread messages waiting for him. Every notification carried the same concern, the same question, all circling back to his sister’s disappearance. He scrolled past them without opening a single one, deliberately leaving them unread. His attention shifted to something else. The channel he had created barely an hour earlier had already gained fifty subscribers. Five comments sat beneath his first vlog. For a brand new channel with no promotion, the growth was unusually fast.It did not take long to understand why.Violet’s disappearance was trending across social platforms, and the shared surname was driving curious viewers to his page. Whether they came out of concern or morbid interest did not matter. Traffic was traffic.Three of the comments asked directly about Violet, probing for details and answers he did not have. The remaining two praised the vlog and expressed interest in fol

Nine[ Ultimate System Notification: Congratulations on completing all assigned tasks for the day. You have received one revitalization potion. ]The notification had barely finished displaying when Rhys felt something solid appear in his hand.He froze.“Whoa…”A small bottle rested in his palm. It felt real, unmistakably so. The surface was smooth and glasslike, cool to the touch, while the thick liquid inside shifted sluggishly with every slight movement.Rhys stared at it in disbelief. He did not understand how something could materialize out of nothing. The logic behind it escaped him completely, but he was far too exhausted to dwell on the impossibility of it all. At this point, he had reached a strange acceptance.Either he had completely lost his mind, or the system operated on principles far beyond anything he understood.Unscrewing the cap produced a soft pop. Rhys lifted the bottle and inhaled cautiously. The scent was strange. Metallic. It reminded him faintly of blood mix

EightAttempting to run five miles turned out to be far more brutal than Rhys had imagined. As a teenager, he was not completely sedentary. He played sports occasionally and worked out from time to time, and when he looked in the mirror, he liked what he saw. His frame was lean, his muscles visible, and by most standards, he considered himself to be in decent shape. What he had not considered was his lungs. After just a few minutes of steady running, his breathing became uneven. By the time he crossed the one mile mark, his chest began to ache and a lightheaded dizziness crept in, forcing him to slow down. Soon after, he had no choice but to stop entirely, bending over with his hands on his knees just to catch his breath. From that point on, the pattern repeated itself. One mile of running followed by five minutes of rest. Over and over again. It took him a full hour to complete the five miles.By the time he staggered back to his apartment, his clothes were soaked through with sweat

SevenRhys was relocated to a new apartment within the Upside and, for the time being, assigned to stay in the guest room of Emma’s house.Almost everything he owned had been destroyed in the explosion, so Emma handled the situation with ruthless efficiency. A temporary wardrobe appeared overnight, stocked with neatly arranged clothes and essentials. A personal chauffeur was assigned to him, along with an armed escort consisting of three bulletproof vehicles to transport him to and from school. She also drafted a detailed list of house rules. There were schedules, checkpoints, and mandatory reviews of his daily progress. What should have been a simple task of supervising a teenager was treated like a corporate project. Emma monitored his academics, his physical condition, his sleep, and his diet with relentless precision.Watching her juggle all of this while still running the administrative core of the Tiger Guild made Rhys finally understand why she commanded so much respect despite

SixRen quietly observed the flow of mana within Rhys’s body, his expression carefully controlled. To anyone watching, he appeared calm and neutral, but beneath that composed exterior, he was genuinely impressed.Rhys’s mana was far from refined. It moved unevenly through his body, unrestrained and untrained, surging without structure. Yet despite its chaotic nature, the flow itself was smooth. More importantly, Rhys’s body accepted mana naturally, circulating it without resistance. That kind of innate compatibility was rare, especially in someone who had only just awakened.“So, Guildmaster,” Rhys asked after a moment of hesitation, his voice cautious but hopeful. “Did you find anything about my sister?”Ren’s jaw tightened slightly. He did not answer right away.“To be honest,” he said at last, “we have no concrete leads.”Rhys’s chest tightened.“Our top investigator suspects involvement from Olympus affiliated agents, but we cannot confirm it yet. I have personally been working on
