The heavy wooden doors of the boardroom closed behind them with a dull thud.

Claudia’s chest rose and fell quickly, her hands tightening into fists at her sides. She tried to hold herself together, to keep her composure, but it was useless. The frustration in her blood was too much. She turned to Ryan, her eyes wide with disbelief.

“Seven days?” she burst out. “Seven days, Ryan! How could they do this to you? How could they put you under such impossible pressure? Don’t they see what’s happening? Don’t they see that they are being manipulated by Julian and the McCarthys?”

She wasn’t just angry—she was devastated.

Ryan’s expression was calm, too calm, as though he had expected this. His hands curled into fists, then relaxed again as he tried to steady himself.

“They see it, Claudia,” he said quietly, his voice even. “But they’re afraid. Fear makes people blind. It makes them grab at whatever looks like security, even if it’s a lie.”

Claudia shook her head in frustration, her lips trembl

The next morning, Ryan went to the hospital to see his mother. The moment he stepped into the room and saw her sitting up on the bed, weak but alive, something in him loosened. She smiled the instant she saw him, her eyes filling with relief, and she reached out without hesitation. Ryan crossed the room quickly and took her hand, holding it tightly like he was afraid she might disappear if he let go.“My son,” she said softly, her voice shaking with emotion. “You came.”“I was always going to come,” Ryan replied, forcing a small smile. “I just needed to make sure you were okay.”She squeezed his hand with what little strength she had. “I am okay now,” she said. “Because of you. If you hadn’t protected me… if you hadn’t stood up to that monster…” Her voice broke, and she shook her head. “I don’t even want to think about what could have happened.”Ryan swallowed hard. “It’s over now,” he said gently. “Martin has been arrested. He can’t hurt you anymore.”She nodded, tears slipping down

CHAPTER 258Ryan did not sleep that night. No matter how many times he closed his eyes, his mind refused to slow down. The room was quiet, yet his thoughts were loud, looping endlessly around the same words, the same question that had been planted in his head and refused to leave. He lay flat on his back, staring up at the ceiling, his eyes dry and tired, watching the faint blue glow from the ring on his finger reflect against the white surface above him. The light pulsed softly, almost like a slow heartbeat. Ryan had so many questions ringing in his head that he had no option but to pounder.“How sure are you that Elizabeth was actually helping you?” The system asked him. Ryan sucked in a breath and let it out slowly through his nose.“Why would you even say that?” he muttered, his voice low and rough from exhaustion. “Why would you put that thought in my head?”He shifted slightly on the bed, turning his head to the side. The sheets were cold beneath him.“She helped me,” he said

Ryan sat on the edge of his bed, his shoulders heavy, his mind still spinning from everything that had happened in the last twenty-four hours. The room around him was quiet—too quiet. No movement, no noise, not even the hum of the air conditioning felt comforting tonight. It only reminded him of the silence in his own thoughts. He lifted his right hand slowly, staring at his fingers. His breath caught the moment his eyes landed on the ring—the same ring that had once belonged to Martin Holton. He leaned closer, raising his hand until the ring nearly touched his face.“What the hell are you?” he whispered under his breath. His voice echoed back at him, small but trembling with confusion. Then he whispered again—almost as though saying it out loud would force the ring to explain itself.“What are you really? What does this… mean for me now?”He expected silence.Instead—A sudden flash of blue light illuminated the entire room.Ryan jerked back in shock. “What the—?!”Before he could

  • Chapter 256

Ryan stood in the middle of the quiet forest, the weight of everything that had just happened pressing heavily on his shoulders. The ring on his finger pulsed faintly, still warm. He opened his mouth, ready to question the system again.“Wait… I still have questions,” Ryan whispered, lifting his hand slightly. The ring glowed for an instant—And then dimmed.Silence. Total, unbroken silence. The system didn’t respond.Ryan frowned. “Hello? System? Can you hear me? I need you to—”Nothing. Not even a hum, not even a flicker of energy. It was as if the voice had been switched off completely. As if the system had decided he had asked enough questions for now.Ryan forced out a slow, shaky breath. “Seriously? You talk when you want, and then you shut up when I need you? What kind of—” He stopped himself, closing his eyes tightly. “Okay. Fine. I’ll deal with this later.”He turned to walk away—But a sudden wailing of sirens sounded through the forest.Ryan stopped. The sound grew louder

Ryan stood frozen, staring down at Martin’s unconscious body sprawled across the forest floor. The leaves around him were still settling from the fight, drifting slowly to the ground. His chest rose and fell sharply, each breath shaky from exhaustion, pain, and confusion. But none of that compared to what he saw on Martin’s hand. The ring.It glinted faintly beneath a streak of sunlight, almost as though it sensed him looking at it. Ryan swallowed hard as he took a small step forward.“That ring…” he whispered to himself, his voice trembling with disbelief. “This… this is the thing controlling everything?”Before he could move any closer, the cold, robotic voice echoed inside his head again—clearer now and louder now, “Ryan Walker… the ring must be claimed. You must take it.”Ryan stiffened, glancing around the forest even though he already knew the voice wasn’t coming from anywhere outside. It was inside him—inside his mind, echoing cleanly and unnaturally as though someone had sp

  • Chapter 254

The moment Martin’s fist cut through the air, time seemed to slow for Ryan. Pain exploded across his face and chest as the force of the punch slammed him backward, his feet leaving the uneven forest floor, and he hit the ground hard with a jarring thud that made the leaves and dirt scatter around him. A grunt escaped his lips, sharp and pained, as he struggled to push himself up, every movement a reminder of the bullet lodged painfully in his arm.Martin didn’t pause. He roared, a guttural sound that vibrated through the clearing, and seized a thick log lying nearby. His grip was unrelenting, veins standing out on his forearms, muscles taut with lethal intent. “You should have stayed down, Ryan Walker!” Martin spat, his eyes burning with fury, dark and unyielding. “You think you can survive me? You are nothing!”Ryan’s instincts kicked in. He rolled sideways just in time, the log smashing into the sandy ground with a deafening crash that sent splinters and dust into the air. Ryan’s
