Inside the Institution
A man, one of the teachers at this school, walked alone down the hallway. Tall and handsome, with white, flowing hair and slanted eyes. This was Mr. Clover Cleaveland. A Professional Cultivator, 8th Grade Falcon. Desmond Dekker, on the other hand, was a 9th Grade Falcon. "Mr. Clover! Mr. Clover!" He stopped walking when a student greeted him. "Oh, Heji. What's the problem?" Heji Mo. A noble student from the Mo Family of the Tiger Fang Clan. And he was already a 7th Grade Serpent Cultivator. "It seems like we're going to have a problem with the new cultivators. Because out of the five hundred applicants, more than half of them gave up and went home." Clover frowned at what he heard. "And how many of them passed?" "N-none of them have passed yet." Because of that, Clover sighed. "Don't tell me Desmond is the one who faced those kids again." "That's right." Clover quickly walked towards the direction of the school's gate. "What's gotten into that old man's head again, ordering this." When Clover arrived at the scene, he just sighed. Each student was flinching in fear because they couldn't maintain their concentration as they were quickly consumed by the energy Desmond was releasing. "I don't want to anymore!" "I don't think I want to try anymore." "Wow. I didn't think they were this strict." "I'm just going home." Whispers continued among the remaining cultivators. "Next!" Desmond shouted again. Until Sai sat down in front of the teacher. "Start." At the man's command, Sai quickly immersed himself in intense concentration. Everyone watched him as each second passed. Simultaneously, Desmond began to disrupt the young man's energy with his spine-chilling aura. But fifty seconds passed, and Sai remained calm in his seat. Even if he were to be tickled, he wouldn't be disturbed anymore by his incredibly intense concentration. Until one minute passed, to everyone's astonishment, because they witnessed a new cultivator pass this seemingly impossible test for the first time. "You've passed! Next!" But it seemed like that didn't matter to Desmond, who remained calm. Sai stood up and bowed to the teacher with a smile. "Thank you very much." Then, a soldier guided him to stand on the side, where he was now beside Clover, who was silently watching. Loan and Eris bumped fists before Loan spoke, smiling. "Looks like it's my turn next." "Good luck." Eris said calmly. And like Sai, Loan passed. After that, it was Eris, who passed without breaking a sweat. The three of them were admired and whispered about because of their extraordinary strength, even at their low strength level, they could match the strength of a Falcon Adventurer. But of course, no one knew that Desmond had only released twenty percent of his strength earlier to test how tough this year's newcomers were. The headmaster had told him to create a test that would be enough to see how tough and acceptable these new cultivators were to become full-fledged adventurers someday. So, for Desmond, twenty percent of his strength was enough for these newcomers to prove they were ready to face the real hardships on the road to achieving their dreams. After Sai, Loan, and Eris passed, the other remaining cultivators began to feel a burning desire to show off their own strength. Their previously dejected and nervous expressions were replaced by determination in their hearts, and their eyes blazed as they challenged Desmond's strength. "You've passed! Next!" "Alright!" A young man shouted when he managed to withstand the teacher's aura. "You've passed! Next!" "Ugh! This is annoying!" "Next!" But there were also some who couldn't withstand the unusual fear caused by the teacher's power, so not everyone passed in a row. If there was anyone, it was only two out of fifty people. "You've passed! Next!" When the new young man sat down in front of Desmond, he stared at him for a while. There was no emotion in the young man's eyes. He wasn't even looking at the teacher, his attention was fixed on the floor. He had black hair and obviously came from a heavyweight clan, judging by his luxurious attire. This was Lucien Li. From the Royal Li Family of the Dragon Sage Clan. "Start when you're ready." Desmond said to him. The other soldiers bowed to the young man, except for Desmond. Even Clover paid his respects to this young man because the Dragon Sage Clan was considered the most powerful clan in the history of Galendray since nine centuries ago. Lucien closed his sleepy eyes and began to immerse himself in intense concentration. When Desmond tried to disrupt him, a very bright energy seemed to explode from the young man's body, causing Desmond's energy to disappear immediately, along with his slight recoil. The cracks around them widened. And the onlookers were worried when blood began to flow from Desmond's nose. "You've passed. Next." The teacher said calmly, adjusting his position again as if nothing had happened. Lucien stood up and walked silently to stand beside the cultivators who had already passed.Latest Chapter
106: Thief
“Rest, Vincent. You’re still too young to tire yourself out.” Paul left at the same time.“You only say that because our jobs are different,” Vincent replied.Paul laughed without stopping his walk. “And you think it’s easy to be the commander of the entire palace at this age?”“Fine, just go. I don’t want to hear you anymore.”---The night was cold in a forest. From the quiet, something moved in the shadows of the grass.Soon, a rabbit appeared. The animal carefully hopped closer to a clear stream, which reflected the starlit sky and the glowing moon. While the rabbit drank, a shadow suddenly appeared behind it and grabbed its ears. The rabbit could only jump in fear, but it could not escape the man’s grip. Not far from the forest, Leander sat by a fire, sharpening his sword.Soon, a man approached—it was Raphael. “I’m here.” He held up a rabbit he had caught from the stream. The next day, the two of them traveled again to a town about three kilometers away.In a narrow street, they
105: Busy-body
Emrys waited by the door with a guard. He was starting to get a little bored because he had been waiting for almost an hour, yet the princess still hadn’t come out.He wanted to knock and greet her, but the guard didn’t allow it.After two hours or more, the door finally opened, and Emrys’s bored expression was replaced with relief. He immediately bowed upon seeing the princess emerge. “Good morning, Your Highness.”“Have you been waiting there for long?”“Not that long, Your Highness.”The princess simply nodded and walked past him. Emrys followed, hands behind his back.“There’s one thing I forgot to tell you,” the princess said as she continued walking. “Since you’re now my personal bodyguard, you must always stay by my side. You must ensure I can sleep safely at night. Also, you should knock before entering my room—you should not just wait outside. Remember, in this job, you cannot take your eyes off me, no matter what happens. Is that clear, Mr. Valestron?”Emrys nodded behind he
104: Offer
Everyone was truly amazed. They had merely switched places, yet no one could speak from sheer shock and awe.Vincent adjusted his glasses again. His fingers trembled slightly as his chest pounded rapidly. Leander swallowed hard. Commander Ventri’s gaze was serious, and he covered his mouth while his sharp eyes stared intently at the boy.Jin grew even more nervous in his seat. He almost didn’t want to continue watching this.Until Paul attacked again, and in an instant, he appeared behind Emrys. He tried to take advantage of the situation to strike the boy in the neck. But Emrys was quick to turn and block, deflecting the enemy’s weapon in different directions using the borrowed sword scabbard. It was as sturdy as a real weapon, producing a metallic clang in the coliseum. Paul tried to move faster, hoping to overpower his opponent. But the boy matched him as if they were dancing, with Emrys guiding every move. From fear and anxiety, the audience’s emotions shifted to amazement at the
103: Get serious
Emrys’s fearless challenge ignited Paul to launch an attack. The ground cracked as the commander ran forward at lightning speed, closing the distance between him and his young opponent. He threw a straight punch, but Emrys slapped it downward and returned it with a spinning kick aimed at Paul’s face. Despite the speed, Paul blocked the kick with one arm, and the force sent him several meters back, leaving his arm bruised and smoking.Emrys’s strength was undeniably intimidating. Everyone watching was serious, mostly supporting Paul—except for Jin, his sister, and their little companion. They frowned at Emrys’s ferocity; he was strong, yes, but his excessive violence could endanger the peace the princess had maintained for years. They were genuinely worried for their respected commander’s safety.“What’s wrong? Aren’t you going to use your sword?”Paul took a deep breath, clenching his fists harder, ignoring the pain in his arm. “I just have a bruise on my arm. You haven’t beaten me ye
102: Taunt
The tournament continued.Paul was sent into battle for the second time and easily won without breaking a sweat.Leander fought once as expected, and with his exceptional sword skills, the assassin he faced didn’t stand a chance. As for the other matches, Emrys only fought once, as decided by the mediator. Out of all the battles, only Bell Clay lost—and suffered severe injuries.Several hours passed, leaving only four participants remaining. With no other options, the mediator called Emrys into the arena for the second time. His opponent was a man named Glade Sauros, around Paul’s age, but obviously larger and taller than Emrys. As always, Emrys showed no fear or worry, keeping his hands in his pockets.Glade drew two sickles made of solid steel and clashed them together to generate sparks and heat.Confident in his skills, Glade believed he would win; no one had ever escaped his weapons.Emrys merely extended his left hand and silently challenged Glade to come closer. Irritated, Glad
101: Voiceless comment
Bell Clay.Twenty-five years old.He was known in his village as the cleverest assassin, even at such a young age.He was also the assassin who had tried to attack Emrys at their small gathering using only a spike—but nearly got himself harmed instead. So even though he was nervous as he stepped into the arena, he didn’t intend to give up the chance to get close to the princess. He needed to gain her trust to become one of her soldiers, and he would do anything to eliminate his rivals in the tournament, no matter how dangerous it was. When everyone saw Bell stop at one side of the mediator, Emrys appeared from a wall on the opposite side, walking to a stop four meters from his opponent.Bell was taller, almost chest height compared to Emrys, but that didn’t stop them from locking eyes. Even during the simple palace gathering, their silent rivalry had already begun because of the spike incident—and amazingly, none of the other participants noticed. Their movements truly showed their sk
