Everyone turned toward him.

Morgan stood up indifferently. He adjusted the bandage on his arm, then walked toward the table where the car keys were.

Nial immediately shook his head.

“No. I already said I’ll go.”

Morgan ignored him, took the keys, then looked at him for a moment before giving a faint smile.

“You have an ability. You have to stay alive.”

He picked up his jacket.

“For a world like this, you are the hope and future of humanity.”

Morgan slipped his hand into the pocket of his jacket.

“So, Nial... become stronger and stay alive.”

Nial stared at him, his eyes beginning to redden. Several people who had previously agreed to Morgan’s sacrifice began lowering their heads.

Morgan said nothing more. He picked up his vest and put it on. A folding knife slipped into his pants pocket, then he took the car keys.

As he passed Nial, he stopped for a moment.

“Take care of yourself.”

After that, Morgan opened the door and slipped outside, running toward the car parked in front of the minimarket.

Occasionally, gunshots could be heard, followed by the rough sound of the car engine starting, which drew the zombies’ attention.

The car sped away from the shelter. Within seconds, the horde of zombies began moving after it.

Morgan watched them through the rearview mirror. Their numbers were growing. He gripped the steering wheel with one hand.

For years after the world ended, he had grown accustomed to sights like this. Zombies, death, hunger, fear.

As an ordinary human, Morgan knew he could never match the Awakened, which was why he trained twice as hard. When they rested, he trained. When they used their abilities to kill zombies, he used knives and rifles.

He could not become a burden and cause others to die simply because he was weak.

Yet in the end, after years of fighting, one thing remained unchanged.

In this world, his status as an ordinary human remained his weakness. It still made him easier to sacrifice.

Morgan chuckled softly.

“I don’t regret it.”

He stared at the empty road ahead and took a deep breath.

“If there really is another life... I want to live a peaceful and safe life.”

The car continued speeding forward, while the horde of zombies drew closer. In the distance, the streets were beginning to fill with zombies.

He pressed the accelerator down harder.

“Hahaha! Look at his face!”

“Could it be that he actually fainted? Tsk, what a weakling!”

“Quick, quick, just push him inside!”

Those voices mixed with mocking laughter and commotion, making his head feel even heavier. Morgan had not even had the chance to open his eyes when someone suddenly shoved his body hard.

His body stumbled forward and fell onto the floor.

The door was immediately slammed shut from the outside.

“Just stay in there until dismissal!”

The sound of laughter could be heard again before slowly fading away.

Morgan frowned. His body felt heavy, but it was not because of any injuries. There was none of the pain he should have been feeling.

He slowly opened his eyes.

The first thing he saw was a low ceiling with a small light hanging above his head. The room was narrow and filled with things that had been stacked carelessly. Cardboard boxes, metal shelves, several buckets, and other objects occupied almost every corner of the room.

A storage room?

Morgan blinked several times.

“...Where is this?”

He tried to remember what had happened.

After leaving the minimarket, he kept driving while luring the horde of zombies away from the shelter. However, their numbers continued to increase. In the end, his car was no longer able to move.

The engine died because it ran out of fuel.

Morgan had no choice but to get out and try to find a place to take shelter. However, a group of zombies immediately swarmed him from all directions.

He fired his pistol using the few remaining bullets, taking down several zombies before his ammunition ran out. After that, he pulled out his folding knife and continued fighting.

But there were simply too many of them.

He still remembered how his body was struck from all directions. Their teeth bit into his skin, rotten hands grabbed his clothes, and his body was slowly forced down onto the ground.

He kept fighting, but in the end, an ordinary human body still had its limits.

Excruciating pain filled his entire body before everything turned dark.

Morgan fell silent.

“...I died.”

There was no doubt about it.

He had died.

His car had been destroyed, his body had been swarmed by a group of zombies, and there was no way he could have survived a situation like that.

Then why was he in this place?

Morgan raised his hand and touched his face. There were no wounds, no blood. Even his body felt much lighter than before.

“What is this?”

Ding!

A sound suddenly rang inside his head. A transparent blue screen appeared out of nowhere before his eyes.

[Welcome to your second life.]

Morgan stared at the screen without blinking. A few seconds later, another line of text appeared.

[Complete missions to unlock extraordinary abilities.]

“...”

Morgan remained silent.

He had seen many strange things during the years he lived in a world that had already ended. Evolved zombies, humans who awakened strange abilities, even creatures that could not be explained by common sense.

But a blue screen floating in the air?

This was the first time.

Back then, threats like that were not something that could be taken lightly. However, he also knew that people who lived in peace did not always have the courage to face violence, especially when they had never truly experienced it.Carew was not a fighter. He even seemed to struggle with lifting a college bag that was too heavy, so it was no wonder he was frightened after being threatened by a group of bullies.Morgan sighed.“Alright. We’ll deal with tomorrow’s problems tomorrow.”Carew quickly raised his head.“Huh? But, Bro, they—”“It’s late. I’m tired, and I want to sleep.”Morgan stood up, then pointed at the sofa Carew was sitting on.“Are you staying over or not? If you are, sleep on the sofa. If not, close the door behind you when you leave.”After saying that, he walked toward his bedroom while yawning. He had no interest in spending his night thinking about a group of bullies who might not even be strong enough to make him lift a finger.Besides, there was still time to de

However, just as that thought crossed his mind, the original owner’s memories resurfaced. This person’s name was Carew. His classmate at college, and also the only friend he was fairly close to.Morgan slowly lowered his hands. He looked at the man who was still crying against his chest, then let out a long sigh. It seemed his new life had given him not only an apartment, college friends, and the chance to enjoy delicious food, but also a friend who appeared to have some serious problems.“Alright,” Morgan said, awkwardly patting Carew’s back. “Now stop crying and explain what happened.”Carew lifted his face. Tears still welled up behind his glasses, and his lips trembled as if he had just heard the cruelest question in the world.“Bro... they’re going to kill me!”Morgan fell silent. The remaining smile on his face slowly disappeared.Morgan looked at Carew, who was still clutching his shirt with a pale face. After letting out a long sigh, he finally opened the apartment door and pu

After wandering around for quite a while, he finally stopped at a crowded barbecue stall. The meat grilling over the charcoal sizzled, while the aroma of rendered fat and charred seasoning made his stomach growl again.Morgan immediately sat down in an empty chair.“Sir, I want satay. A lot of it!”The stall owner looked at him for a moment. “How many skewers?”Morgan studied the grill seriously, as if he were making an important decision that would determine the fate of humanity.“Twenty for now.”“Twenty?!”“If I’m still hungry, I’ll order more.”The stall owner fell silent, unsure whether the man in front of him was joking. However, seeing Morgan take out his money without hesitation, he finally nodded and began preparing the order. Not long afterward, a large plate of satay was placed in front of Morgan, along with a bowl of sauce and several side dishes. Morgan’s eyes lit up, and he picked up the first skewer, biting into the meat with great anticipation.Tender. Savory. The seas

Morgan only stopped running after making sure no one was chasing him. He slipped into a narrow alley between two old buildings, then leaned against the cold wall while catching his breath. It was already night, and the streetlights could only illuminate part of the alley’s entrance. The farther inside one went, the darker and quieter it became, enough to make an ordinary person think twice before entering.Morgan let out a long sigh.“Alright, System. I’m ready.”He closed his eyes, putting on a resigned expression like a soldier about to accept his death sentence. After making him run around like a madman, all he could do now was hope the electric shock wouldn’t hurt too much. However, several seconds passed without anything happening.Morgan opened one eye.“...Is that it?”[Ding!][Congratulations, Host!][Mission successfully completed.]Morgan immediately opened both eyes. He stared at the narrow ceiling above the alley with a confused expression, as if hoping someone could expla

Morgan remained silent, trying to figure out how to complete the System’s ridiculous mission without having to do anything excessive. However, his silence only gave Angel an opportunity to move.Angel suddenly stepped on Morgan’s foot, then swiftly twisted her body while swinging her elbow toward the man’s stomach. Her movements were sharp and decisive, as if she genuinely intended to take Morgan down before he could react.Unfortunately, her opponent was not someone who could be dealt with in an ordinary way.Morgan tilted his body slightly to avoid Angel’s elbow, then caught her arm. When Angel tried to use the momentum to break free, Morgan immediately moved behind her and switched their positions in one smooth motion. Before Angel could even realize what had happened, Morgan had already restrained both of her hands behind her back. One of Morgan’s hands locked both of her wrists in place, while his other arm wrapped around Angel’s neck. His fingers only touched her lightly, not ac

Morgan looked at Angel without any complex change of emotion, but it was clear that he was not particularly pleased either.“I disagree, Senior. I was just joking earlier.”Angel stopped and turned around.“What? Joking?”“Yes, I was just joking. So please let me go.”Morgan was still sitting on the chair with both hands tied behind his back. Strangely, there was not even the slightest hint of panic on his face. He even looked far too relaxed for someone who had just been ordered to be thrown into the sea.Angel narrowed her eyes.“Unfortunately, that decision isn’t yours to make.”She stepped closer until she was standing directly in front of Morgan. Then she leaned down slightly and pointed at the man’s face with one finger.“If you haven’t realized it yet, your life and death are now in my hands.”Morgan looked at the finger in front of his face, then slowly shifted his gaze to Angel’s narrowed eyes.“You’re annoying. I have no reason to let you live.”Morgan fell silent. This time
