Even though Jason wasn't sure if the so-called business Li meant was done with Caleb, he knew Caleb was a good lead. He had seen him a few times with Li back then, but Li was always too secretive. He Never told him anything.

If he had, maybe just maybe Jason would have secretly investigated Caleb to see what the business was really about. But anyway, he wasn't so sure. Besides, Caleb could have adopted the child or something...

Jason bent into a street, then pulled over at a huge gate.

Edward, who had been buried in his thoughts, looked up as blinding light flashed into the car.

GOLDMERE GRAND

He read the inscription rolling on the billboard. Thoughts of last night came flooding back when he came to deliver Ava's dress. The memory stung but he quickly push it aside he had other pressing things to think about... Finding his late parents killer was now his top priority.

He was done with Ava he made up his mind right there.

His eyes roam the mighty building

I am not the same Edward again. So I should never feel out of place in such an expensive place.

"Here, take this, sir," Jason said, handing him a black card. "This card doesn't have a limit, so don't be scared to book any room you want."

Edward collected the card.

"It's a customized Mastercard, only accessible to the Zhenyu family. I'll make arrangements for everything else you'll need before I come pick you up tomorrow. This other card" Jason handed him another "is called a pass, you can get into anywhere with it."

Edward nodded. He had heard about passes owned by rich people. In fact, he used to own one. But just one look at the pass Jason gave him, he could tell it was way higher than the one he'd had before.

"If you need anything, call me." Jason slid a card into Edward's palm.

Then he gave Edward a shirt. "You have to change. Your clothes are stained with blood. That way, you won't be bothered when you walk inside."

Edward nodded like a child, then quickly changed into the new shirt.

He stepped out of the car, taking his backpack and the things Jason had given him.

"If you need anything, just say the word. I have men around to attend to you," Jason said before driving off.

Edward watched the car until it disappeared. He took a breath, then started walking toward the huge building.

Funny how life was.

Less than 48 hours ago, he was at the most prestigious hotel in Goldmere to deliver a package. He'd ended up humiliated. Now he had returned as the heir to a powerful family.

For the first time in a long while, Edward walked without lowering his head.

He glanced at his wristwatch the washed-out leather strap threatening to peel off his skin any moment. The time was almost midnight.

"Hey, you. You're back again," one of the security men at the door said on seeing Edward.

"Why don't poor people know their place?" another hissed irritably.

They had seen how he was humiliated yesterday. At first, they didn't allow him in, but the receptionist asked them to let him through since he was delivering a package for their top customer that night. Now he was back, and they couldn't hide their anger.

Edward didn't say a word.

He wasn't going to fight them to gain access when he had a pass. They should be happy he was patronizing them for the night. He strolled toward them and flashed the pass Jason had given him right in their faces.

A dark dragon insignia gleamed faintly on the card's surface.

"Wait... who gave you that?" one of them stammered. The pass was only used by the very wealthy. It had been a long time since he'd seen anyone come in with that kind of pass.

"What's with this old pass? Will..." The second man tried to laugh at Edward's card because it looked old, but a hot slap landed on his cheek.

"Shut it!" The first guy who had slapped him yelled.

"I'm so sorry, sir." He rushed to open the door for Edward. "This won't happen again."

Edward wanted to reply. Of course it won't happen again because you've lost your job, and I'll make sure you don't get employed anywhere ever again. But he brushed it aside.

He was tired. He didn't want to use his new position to oppress anyone.

Edward walked into the lobby.

Outside, the first security guy held his chest, thanking heaven that Edward hadn't punished them. The second guy watched in confusion, his palm rubbing his red cheek. Even though they were both security guards, some ranks were higher than others. Since the first guy was his senior colleague, he dared not say a word.

"Hello, I need the most expensive room you have," Edward said, sliding his card toward the receptionist as he reached the lobby.

"Who do we have here? You're still in Goldmere? You even want the most expensive room? Do you know where you are? Goldmere Grand one of the most expensive hotels in Goldmere."

Edward heard the mocking tone beside him.

His expression hardened slightly before he turned to see Ethan and Ava staring back at him.

  • Zhenyu blood detected

Edward scanned the environment. Thirty men. Maybe more. If that man had told the truth, Caleb was hiding something big. Edward could read these men at a glance, they weren't ordinary security guards. They were trained assassins. The kind who killed for a living, not the ones who fought or protected. The men he had taken down at Ethan's place were amateurs compared to this. And they were there to kill him. One thing was certain now he wasn't just some orphan. Caleb must have killed his parents. And he'd sent these men to finish the job, to bury the truth for good. Edward prayed silently. Not for a miracle just for a chance to survive long enough to find answers. But he knew the odds. Against thirty trained killers with guns and machetes? One percent. Maybe less. His eyes darted to their hands. Handguns Rifles Machetes. Fighting them meant death. Running was not even an option. So he just stood there, cycling in the center surrounded by a circle of huge, masked men. Then an
