Adrian sat in his room, staring at his phone screen which showed the time.

11:59 pm

A few seconds later, it hit 12 and at the same time he saw a notification appear in front of his eyes.

Money Spent: 50 Dollars

Ding! You have received 100 Dollars.

Please select your mode of payment.

1. Cash

2. Bank Account

3. Others

As someone who just turned 18, he didn’t have his own bank account so he picked the only viable option — Cash.

Crisp 20 Dollar bills appeared in front of him before falling down to the floor. He picked them up and put them in his pocket before lying down in his bed.

“Real bills… this system thing is real. I’m not hallucinating.” he muttered before closing his eyes.

The next day, he busied himself with getting a slot for his driving test, renting a car for the test and taking the test, which he passed with flying colors.

With his new driving license in hand, he spent the tiny bit of his remaining money on snacks and went home to sleep.

He woke up the next day to a new notification.

Money Spent: 100 Dollars

Ding! You have received 200 Dollars.

Once again, he picked cash and headed out early in the morning. He already had a plan set up and all he had to do, was implement it.

He walked four miles until he got to a car rental shop, the key to his plans. He needed something that he could use for faster travelling and a car was exactly what he needed.

Adrian headed inside and got a list of cars available along with their pricing, which he took a good look at before making his selection.

There were multiple cars from small, medium, large cars, SUVs, vans and pickup trucks.

Among all of these, Adrian went for the one that looked really good and had great features.

It was from BMZ, a well known car brand. A BMZ S7, a luxury SUV that was really smooth and also fast.

Its rental price was 180 dollars a day if he went for a daily plan but it could drop to 170 if he paid for a weekly plan, which was a total of 1190 dollars.

The rental process was smooth for one simple reason — the shop owner had known Adrian’s mother for years.

He didn’t ask for a deposit, didn’t bother with extra paperwork, and handed him the keys within minutes.

He drove out of the shop with the car after just five minutes. As for the rest of the 20 dollars, all of it went into fuel for the car.

With the car fuelled up, he drove back home and parked the car right in front of the porch, beside his dad’s old car that looked pretty worn down.

“Oh my god! Mom!! Come take a look at what this idiot just brought home!!”

Adrian turned to look at Bella who ran into the house, screaming like the world was about to end. Soon, the whole family walked out.

Their looks of annoyance switched to that of utter shock but it only stayed for a moment. Aurora glared at Adrian as she pointed at the car.

“Where did you get the money for something like this?!”

“Yeah… it’s a BMZ S7, a luxury SUV that blends in sports utility into it. It’s a beast and it’s expensive… very expensive.” Mike said, his mouth slightly open as he stared at the beauty in front of him.

Aurora frowned as she looked at her son, “How much does it cost?”

“A new one goes for approximately 90,000 dollars. He’s not that rich so it’s probably someone else’s. He either borrowed it from someone or stole it.” Bella said from behind.

Mike immediately shook his head and laughed, “No, it’s rented. Look at the license plate.”

Lily squinted her eyes and read the words on top of the license plate, “Zero Mile Rentals.”

“Hah, this idiot really rented such a car.” Mike smirked as he looked at Adrian, “Why waste money on something like this when it’s not even going to be yours?”

“Just felt like it.” Adrian said as he walked past them, into the house while they followed behind him. They watched as he spread some hazelnut chocolate spread on a slice of bread and took a bite.

Aurora walked over angrily and snatched the jar from his hand before glaring at him.

“That’s not yours, you son of a wench! Why did you waste money on a dumb car when you could have given it to me?!” she screamed hysterically.

Adrian took a step back, turned around and just walked out of the house instead of replying to her, which only angered her even more.

Outside, he saw Mike standing right next to the car with a wide grin on his face.

“Give me the keys, ass face. I’ll take it on a nice drive.”

“Excuse me, I got things to do. Go play your games with someone else.” Adrian said as he walked towards him without any hesitation.

He clenched his fist tight as he got closer. Mike wasn’t a person he wanted to mess with, but he also didn’t wish to back down without a fight.

Mike frowned as he hadn’t expected a rejection but once he realised what was going on, his expression hardened and his face turned red with anger.

“You dare? Do you want to get beat up, you da—”

Bang!

Adrian did not wait for Mike to finish his sentence as he sent a fist flying straight to his face, hitting him perfectly. He didn’t stop and punched with his other hand, a hook straight to his jaw.

First punch shook him up while the second one was a complete knock out.

Mike fell onto the ground while Adrian stood in front of him, just looking down at his knocked out brother.

He could hear a gasp from behind him, but he didn’t bother with it and got into the car before driving away.

“In my last life, I endured everything. In this one, I refuse.”

The forest was quiet except for the sound of the wind blowing through the tall trees. It was a small island in the middle of a very large sea. The water was a deep blue color and it went on forever in every direction. Large waves hit the rocks at the edge of the island all day and all night, making a loud crashing sound. This place was very far away from any city and far away from anyone who knew Adrian or the work he used to do. The air smelled like salt from the ocean and like the sap from the pine trees that covered most of the land.Adrian walked through the thick forest with a heavy axe in his hand. He had aged since he left the city five years ago. He was twenty three years old now and he did not look like a teenager anymore. He had a very strong and authoritative aura about him. He was still very handsome, but his face looked more mature and serious. He had gotten bigger too, especially his chest and his arms. His pure cotton T-shirt was tight around his biceps and his chest. H

The morning sun filtered through the expansive windows of the high-rise apartment, casting long, peaceful streaks of light across the hardwood floor. It was a far cry from the small houses that they used to live in the past.Sophia sat on the plush designer sofa, her posture relaxed and confident. She looked more mature now; the soft roundness of her face had given way to sharper, more defined features, and the lingering expression of grief and longing that had once defined her was gone. In its place was a quiet, self-assured serenity. She held a steaming cup of coffee in her left hand, while her right hand steadied the morning newspaper."Adrian's finally decided to show himself," Sophia murmured, her voice steady and clear. "He’s on the front page."From the kitchen, the sound of a whistling kettle cut off, followed by the heavy, familiar footfalls of someone who walked with a certain swagger. Ethan walked out, wiping his hands on a dish towel before tossing it aside. He looked broa

  • 186. Back Home

A young man, barely into his twenties, lunged out from the crowd. He was a junior researcher, his face twisted in a mask of fanatical grief. He didn't have a weapon; he just had a blind, suicidal rage. He ran at Adrian with his hands outstretched, a pathetic display of loyalty to a man who would have sacrificed him without a second thought.Adrian didn't even blink. As the boy reached him, Adrian moved with a blurring, mechanical speed. He swung the butt of his shotgun in a short, brutal arc, catching the boy in the jaw. The sound of bone shattering was loud in the enclosed space. Before the boy could fall, Adrian grabbed him by the collar and slammed him against the steel wall. He didn't hesitate. He jammed the front end of the shotgun’s barrel under the boy’s chin, pinning him there. The boy’s eyes cleared for a split second, the rage replaced by a sudden, cooling realization of his own mortality. He tried to speak, to plead, but the barrel was too deep.Adrian pulled the trigger.T

  • 185. New Leadership

    Adrian raised his eyebrows, the cold light of the submarine’s bridge reflecting off his visor. He didn't look like a man cornered by a billionaire’s grand vision; he looked like a man listening to a boring lecture."You really did manage to keep an eye on me, huh?" he said, his voice dropping into a casual, almost conversational tone. It was the kind of voice you used with a neighbor you didn’t particularly like but felt obligated to acknowledge. "Anyway."Pavlov frowned. He was used to terror, used to rage, or even used to the cold silence of a professional killer. He was not used to being treated as someone ordinary. To a man who viewed himself as the architect of a new world, being treated as "someone normal" was a sharper insult than any bullet. He opened his mouth to retort, to remind Adrian of the sheer scale of the power he wielded from this underwater tomb, but Adrian was already moving.Adrian reached into his tactical pocket. To Pavlov’s eyes, it was a simple, fluid motion;

  • 184. Face To Face

Adrian stood on the edge of the swim platform, the matte-black metal of the interceptor slick beneath his boots. The night air was biting, but he didn't feel the cold. He adjusted the straps of his deep-sea infiltration gear, a specialized suit provided by the System that looked more like liquid armor than a diving suit. It was a pressurized, self-contained unit that didn't rely on bulky tanks; instead, it used a high-tech electrolysis module to pull oxygen directly from the surrounding water. He pulled the visor down, and a faint blue HUD flickered to life, displaying his depth, heart rate, and a topographical map of the abyss below.Without a second thought, Adrian leaned forward and tipped into the black water. The silence of the ocean swallowed him instantly. Below the surface, the world of wind and salty waters vanished, replaced by a crushing, rhythmic thrum of the deep currents. He swam at a steady, methodical pace, his powerful strokes propelled by the suit's integrated thrust

He took a deep breath. There was a boat waiting for him at a private dock two hours away. The mission was finally reaching its endgame. He stepped out of the shadows of the alleyway and walked casually. He felt a strange sense of clarity as he moved. For the first time in months, there was no internal debate, no worrying about jealousy or social standings. There was only the target, the objective, and the silent promise he had made to himself. Pavlov Vance had taken enough from the world."You invited a guest, Pavlov," Adrian thought as he reached the black SUV Mark had stashed for him. "I'm just making sure I'm the only one who shows up to the party."Inside a parking lot.Adrian climbed into the driver's seat, the interior of the car smelling of fresh upholstery and gun oil. He started the engine, the low hum feeling like a heartbeat. He didn't look back at the penthouse looming in the distance. He didn't think about the two women who were currently probably talking about their futu
