Ethan Vance’s past life was the stuff of legend. As the “Sovereign,” he reigned as the world’s most feared mercenary commander—until the one person he trusted above all else turned on him, ending his life in a single, brutal betrayal. He awakens decades later, in 2026, not as a powerful figure but as a penniless, struggling 21-year-old college student. In the sterile glare of a hospital hallway, Ethan’s world seems to crumble. He can’t afford the surgery that could save his mother’s life. To make matters worse, his girlfriend—always quick to chase after money—abandons him on the spot for a wealthier classmate. Just as despair threatens to swallow him, a metallic chime rings out in his mind: [Ding! God-Level Wealth System activated. Binding complete.] [Initial Balance Reward: $10,000,000 deposited into your account!] Suddenly, fragments of his old self snap into place. The instincts of a battlefield commander return, but this time he’s armed not just with experience, but with limitless funds. The days of being dismissed as a loser on campus are over. Ethan Vance, the Sovereign, is back—reborn with a vengeance. To the ex-girlfriend who laughed at his misfortune: Watch as I buy the company your family depends on. To the doctors who turned away his mother: You’ll be lucky to find work in medicine again. And to the shadows of his past life, those enemies still lurking and scheming: I’m coming for my throne. This time, nothing will stand in my way.

Chapter 1: The Sovereign Awakens

"He’s a zero-balance student, Dr. Han. If those arrears aren't cleared by four, push her out. We aren't running a charity, and the VIP board needs that ICU bed cleared."

The head receptionist didn’t even bother lowering her voice. The words bounced off the white tiles, sharp, nasal, and entirely stripped of empathy.

Ethan Vance stood frozen outside the glass partition of the Intensive Care Unit. His hands were shoved deep into his pockets, fingers curling into tight, trembling fists until his short nails bit into his palms. Through the scratched glass, he could see his mother. She looked so small beneath the tangled web of hospital wires, her chest barely moving. The only sign that she was still anchored to this world was the agonizingly slow, rhythmic beep of the monitor.

"Please," Ethan said, turning toward the heavy-set doctor. The word felt like ash in his mouth. He had swallowed his pride weeks ago, but now he was digging into the dirt. "Just give me twenty-four hours. The student loan company said the emergency paperwork is processing. I'm working three shifts. Just one day."

"One day? Ethan, you’ve been singing the same pathetic song for a month."

A sharp, mocking laugh shattered the quiet corridor. Ethan spun around.

Chloe. His girlfriend of two years—or rather, his ex, judging by the way she was currently leaning her weight against another man. She wasn't wearing her usual faded campus clothes anymore. She wore a sleek designer dress, a pristine Chanel bag slung over her shoulder, and her manicured hand was wrapped tightly around the arm of Leo Brooks.

Leo Brooks. The billionaire heir to the Brooks Corporation. A guy who treated their university campus like his personal playground.

"Stop making a scene," Chloe said, her eyes flicking down to Ethan’s frayed, salt-stained sneakers with pure disgust. "We’re over, Ethan. A relationship built on empty pockets and cheap promises is just a joke. Leo already bought out a luxury condo for me downtown. He’s a real man. He can actually protect someone. You? You can’t even afford to keep your mother’s oxygen running."

Leo smirked, his fingers tightening around Chloe’s waist as he tapped the face of his heavy gold Rolex. "Listen to the lady, Vance. Poverty is a genetic defect, and your family clearly has a terminal case. Tell you what—drop to your knees right now, bark like a dog, and maybe I’ll toss a fifty-dollar bill at your face to buy her another hour. Otherwise, get your trash out of my sight."

Dr. Han's stern demeanor evaporated instantly. He bowed slightly toward Leo, his face morphing into a sickening, sycophantic grin. "Young Master Brooks is entirely right. Nurse! Disconnect the life support for bed 4. Pull the chart."

"No! Touch her and I'll kill you!" Ethan lunged forward, pure panic blinding him, but Leo’s towering bodyguards didn't hesitate.

One of them stepped in, throwing a brutal, short fist straight into Ethan’s midsection.

The air exploded from Ethan's lungs. The impact drove him backward, his knees buckling as he crashed hard onto the cold linoleum floor. He curled inward, gasping for breath, a wave of sickening heat washing over him. Tears of burning, helpless humiliation blurred his vision as he listened to Chloe giggle, watching her stroll away into the elevator, completely comfortable against Leo’s chest.

Why? Ethan screamed in the silent cage of his mind, his fingers tearing into his palms until the skin split and bled. Why does a digit in a bank computer decide who lives and dies? If I had the power... if I just had the strength...

Then, a violent tremor rocked his skull.

It felt as if an iron door inside his consciousness had been hit by a sledgehammer and shattered into pieces. A chaotic, overwhelming flood of blood-red memories, tactical maps, clashing blades, and the absolute commands of a man who ruled the global underworld tore through his brain.

He wasn't Ethan Vance, the broke college kid who got stepped on.

He was the Sovereign.

The supreme commander of the Asura Mercenary Syndicate—the most feared shadow army on Earth. Betrayed, poisoned, and ambushed by his closest ally in his past life, his lethal soul had been sleeping inside this weak, malnourished body, waiting for the exact moment of absolute despair to snap awake.

When Ethan slowly lifted his face, the helpless boy was gone. The freezing, murderous gaze of a man who had walked out of a thousand battlefields locked onto the room. The sheer, heavy pressure radiating from him made Leo’s bodyguards freeze, their muscles locking up as their instincts screamed at them to flee a predator.

Before anyone could speak, a crisp, mechanical chime echoed directly in his mind.

[Ding! Soul synchronization has reached 100%.]

[System has detected immediate financial crisis and host survival threat.]

[Binding successful. The God-Level Wealth System is now online!]

A translucent, glowing holographic dashboard floated before his eyes, invisible to the world.

[Host: Ethan Vance (Sovereign)]

[Current Balance: $14.20]

[System Level: 1]

[Ding! Activating the Newbie Wealth Package.]

[Reward: $10,000,000.00 USD has been deposited into your primary account. Funds are 100% legal.]

Buzz.

The cracked phone in Ethan's pocket vibrated violently. He pulled it out with completely steady fingers. A text notification lit up the screen:

Chase Bank Alert: Direct deposit of $10,000,000.00 credited. Balance: $10,000,014.20.

Ten million dollars. In a fraction of a second, the heavy boot of poverty vanished from his neck.

A slow, cold smile crept onto Ethan's face. The Sovereign was back, and he had an infinite war chest.

"Hey! Trash! Are you deaf?" Dr. Han snapped his fingers sharply near Ethan’s face. "Start packing her things. Security is on the way."

Ethan stood up slowly, brushing a drop of blood from his lip. He adjusted his faded jacket collar with the precise, icy neatness of a military officer. He walked straight past the bodyguards—who sweated nervously and stepped back without knowing why—and stopped at the front desk.

He slid a plain, scratched plastic debit card across the counter.

"Run it," Ethan said, his voice dropping an octave.

The receptionist sneered. "The bill is fifty grand. What’s on this? Your lunch money?"

"I said, run the card," Ethan murmured, his eyes narrowing. "Clear the debt. Move my mother to the top VIP Penthouse Suite on the executive floor, and get the best specialists in the country on a private flight tonight. Do it now, or I will buy this entire hospital just to watch you clear out your desk."

Dr. Han snorted, grabbing the card aggressively. "Fine. I’ll slide it just to watch it decline, then security can drag you out for fraud."

The doctor shoved the card into the premium terminal, punching in the manual amount: $50,000.00. He slammed the green button.

The loading icon spun.

Beep.

A bright green checkmark illuminated the terminal screen. The high-speed thermal printer instantly woke up, rapidly spitting out a long receipt.

[Transaction Approved. Status: Settled.]

The entire corridor went dead silent.

The receptionist's mocking grin froze solid. Dr. Han’s eyes went completely wide, staring at the authorization code on the paper as if he’d seen a ghost.

"This... this is impossible," Dr. Han whispered, his voice cracking violently. "Fifty thousand... cash clearance?!"

Ethan didn't even grant him a second glance. He reached out, casually sliding his debit card back into his pocket, his freezing gaze locking entirely onto the trembling doctor.

"That just covers the backpay," Ethan murmured, his voice laced with an icy promise of ruin. "Now, get the Chief of Medicine down here to handle the VIP transfer. If my mother isn't in that penthouse suite in ten minutes, your medical license will be the absolute least of your worries."
