Thwack!
The sound of a hard strike echoed in the quiet morning, as a wooden stick hit the leg of Jonathan, who was hanging upside down from a large tree branch. His body swayed gently, like an unripe coconut about to fall from its stem.
Yet there was no scream. No complaint.
For Jonathan Winaldy, this was already a routine. The pain had become fused with his life. He could no longer even remember the last time he had complained about a beating.
Jonathan was a twenty-two-year-old young man, handsome, with long, brownish hair that cascaded down to his shoulders. His skin was exotically tanned from the mountain sun, his eyes were as sharp as an eagle's, his nose was straight, and his body was lean and muscular, like that of a wilderness hunter.
His body was now hanging upside down—an energy balance training, according to his master.
Below him stood an old man with a scruffy white beard, wearing a tattered robe that might have once been grey. His face was covered in wrinkles, and the pungent smell of medicinal oil emanated from his body.
At this moment, he remembered a historic moment.
"Boy," said the old man in a flat tone, "I see a great destiny between the two of us."
"Destiny?" Jonathan looked at him upside down.
"Yes. You will become a person who has everything. The world will bow to you."
Jonathan sighed. "Are you a fortune teller now?"
"A little," the old man replied lightly. "And if you want, I can teach you."
But Jonathan just fell silent. He was only eight years old at the time, his stomach was hungry and his body was tired. And when the old man took out a small, faintly glowing stone that Jonathan believed to be a diamond, his common sense instantly vanished.
"I just need help getting to the summit. In return, you can have this."
Jonathan looked at him suspiciously for a moment. Blood was dripping from the old man's body. He looked dying, yet his gaze was sharp, full of mystery.
"Alright…" murmured Jonathan, more out of pity and tempted by the stone's gleam.
However, just as his hand reached for the stone, the old man had already put it away into his pocket first. His laugh was crisp, wicked, and… full of trickery.
That was the moment that changed Jonathan's life 180 degrees.
For over a dozen years on the peak of a mountain that had no name on any map, Jonathan grew up under the harsh tutelage of his master. He learned ancient healing arts, secret martial arts, breathing techniques, inner energy, even prophecy and rare formations.
But his master was very stingy.
Jonathan carried out dangerous missions, bringing back money enough to build a mountain of gold, yet he was never given a single cent.
"Training must not be accompanied by greedy desires!" was always the old man's refrain, while hiding a roasted chicken thigh behind his robe. Jonathan could only eat plain porridge and herbal grasses.
But today, something was strange.
"Sit," said the old man.
Jonathan obeyed, sitting on the cold bamboo floor. This wasn't a regular training session. His master's voice was too soft.
"You may leave the mountain now."
Silence.
The words Jonathan had longed for all this time were finally spoken. In the past, he had tried to escape. But every time he was caught, the punishment was doubled. Now, he was actually being allowed to leave.
"Why? Are you gravely ill, Master?" asked Jonathan, full of suspicion.
"Fool!" retorted the old man, while swinging his stick at Jonathan's head.
"This is for your provisions." He tossed a money pouch, a mysterious package, and a stamped letter.
"Jonathan, you were betrothed since childhood to a girl from a prestigious family. Now it's time for you to propose."
Jonathan looked up quickly. "From a wealthy family? Is she pretty?"
Thwack!
Another blow came flying. Jonathan managed to dodge it, then stood up grimacing.
"Leave quickly before I change my mind."
Jonathan said his goodbyes, taking the package and the betrothal letter he had never imagined. However, when he reached the foot of the mountain, he paused for a moment and looked back up. The mountain was cold and harsh, but it was where he had grown up.
That old man, though stingy, was still the only family he had.

Jonathan looked at Winny with slight surprise. He had not expected her to offer him an investment of twenty billion, especially when the Caresta Family was not asking for any shares or even a portion of the profits. An offer like that was not something one came across every day, even for someone with extraordinary abilities.“Miss Winny, don't you think your offer is a little too generous toward me?” Jonathan leaned back in his chair with a faint smile. “The Caresta Family is willing to provide twenty billion, yet you don't want any shares and have no intention of interfering with the company's management. What exactly do you expect from me?”Winny smiled calmly. She had already anticipated that Jonathan would ask such a question. After all, an intelligent person would not accept such a generous offer without understanding the reasons behind it.“Jonathan, you don't need to be so suspicious. The Caresta Family may be wealthy, but we wouldn't carelessly spend money on someone we don't

Jonathan smiled and shook his head when Winny offered to take him home.“No need, Miss Winny. I can go home by myself. Besides, I don't live too far from here.”However, Winny did not give up immediately. She looked at Jonathan seriously before saying, “Actually, there is something I want to talk to you about.”Jonathan raised an eyebrow slightly.“Then just tell me now. We still have some time before I go home.”Winny fell silent for a moment before glancing around. After making sure that no one was standing too close, she said, “I want to talk about it later tonight. Somewhere private.”As soon as she heard those words, Amelia, who was standing not far from them, immediately fell silent. A look of surprise appeared on her face.“Why does it have to be somewhere private?” she asked instinctively.Winny immediately realized that her words had sounded strange. Her face turned slightly red as she quickly explained, “It's not what you think. I mean, the matter I want to discuss is quite

Inside the banquet hall, the atmosphere gradually became lively again after the incident with the Buana Family came to an end. The guests began enjoying the dishes that had been prepared. Some chatted while raising their glasses, while others still occasionally glanced toward Jonathan. After all, the young man had been the center of attention since the beginning of the party. At that moment, Master Anderson sat not far from Jonathan and began talking with him. Lius, who happened to be nearby, was immediately surprised when he heard their conversation.“Master Anderson, you two know each other?” Lius asked with a look of astonishment. All this time, he had known that Master Anderson was one of his grandfather's close friends. However, he had never expected that the old man also knew Jonathan.Master Anderson chuckled and nodded.“Of course. I met him in Antique City. At first, I thought he was just an ordinary young man who happened to come by to look around. However, after seeing the

Roselin and Yorgi's faces immediately turned pale. Both of them stood stiffly as the gazes of the surrounding guests felt like dozens of needles piercing their skin. The Buana Family was one of the major families in Pegasus City. For years, they had always maintained the family's reputation and dignity. Yet today, in front of so many important figures, they had been humiliated and even thrown out of the Caresta Family's banquet.Yorgi took a deep breath, trying to suppress the anger that was almost exploding in his chest. He then forced a smile and said, “Miss Winny, I think there has been a slight misunderstanding here. You must be joking. I came to this party with good intentions. I only wanted to congratulate Old Master Caresta. As a guest who came all this way, wouldn't it be rather inappropriate to simply throw me out?”Winny looked at him expressionlessly. “I am not joking.”The smile on Yorgi's face immediately froze.Winny continued coldly, “I have already said what I want. Roselin was still standing with her arms folded across her chest. Although her face looked calm, deep down, she was extremely confident in what she had said. In her opinion, even if Jonathan had truly managed to cure Mr. Caresta, it would not change the fact that Jonathan was merely a poor man with no clear background. In her mind, everyone was making too much of it simply because Jonathan had managed to demonstrate some ability. “What exactly are they thinking?” Roselin muttered loudly enough to be heard. “Just because he managed to cure Mr. Caresta, do they really think the Caresta Family will regard him as their savior? He is still a poor man. He has no power, no influential family, and no status whatsoever in Pegasus City.” Her voice was loud enough to make several guests nearby turn their heads. However, Roselin did not notice. She still believed that she was in the right. At that moment, the doors to the hall opened once again. Mr. Caresta entered the banquet hall with Lius

Roselin turned her head, arms folded across her chest, a sneer etched on her face. "That was just a fluke, Grandpa. It was just a coincidence that he managed to please Master Anderson before. But his real ability? Huh, absolutely zero." Yorgi nodded slowly. Roselin's answer didn't entirely convince him, but it was enough to slightly soothe the simmering frustration in his chest. Roselin's eyes landed on Amelia, who was sitting beside Jonathan. The girl was laughing softly, looking comfortable. Jonathan even calmly reached for a napkin and casually wiped the corner of Amelia's mouth; the movement looked so natural and gentle. As if the two were already accustomed to such closeness. For some reason, Roselin immediately felt a surge of heat rise in her chest. Her eyes narrowed. "Since when are they that close?" she muttered angrily. She still didn't understand why a man like Jonathan could make a girl as graceful as Amelia feel so at ease. Her heart couldn't accept it. Even though she
