The moment I was forced to accept the promotion, a sense of … pulling appeared, emanating from me. The azure stones that were floating around me were impacted by that change immediately. Glowing strings appeared on them, and connected with me, far faster than I could even attempt to dodge, but even as the glow started to flow into my body, there was no sense of damage.

I tried to stand up, but my body didn't listen to me.

That was not the only energy that flowed to me. A second later, another bolt of red energy slammed against the top side of the vehicle, but rather than starting to corrode the metal as I had expected, it turned into a red mist, one that flooded toward me. It was slower than the azure strings of energy.

But I failed to dodge it, lacking the ability to move in the first place.

I prepared myself for a disaster, one that could be developed into an intense explosion of pain, one that might prove my end.

The red energy entered my body obediently.

  • #26: Red Bands

After that disgusting — but very Healthy — meal I walked around the camp for another hour, spending most of the money I had managed to steal to buy various food items. I had five more meals, buying them from different vendors, though none of them granted as much experience as Master Qimir's little painful recipe, which gave me thirteen total points.《Health (42/225)》The food wasn't without its problem, of course, I could feel the damaging energies from the food sticking to my bones, but I didn't care much about that. It was nothing against the corrosiveness of that cursed red energy.More importantly, I could feel it dissipating almost as quickly as it settled; which wasn't supposed to happen if the snippets I was hearing from people as they discussed — replenishing their Health was a rather important part of their combat strategy, especially since they were much less capable of avoiding damage with their weird combat pattern. They were talking about that energy sti

  • #25: Camp Economy

I sighed as I strolled into the camp, taking note of the chaos that was going on. I expected a level of discord, but the camp was even more disorganized than I had expected, with at least five shouting matches going on around me.The general structure of the camp was simple. Each close-knit group had established their tents close enough to touch each other, at least four people standing guard, ready against any attack. The camp was crowded enough that no land beast reached that point, and the flying ones were almost exclusively attracted to the butcher station and the huge bonfire.I didn't know whether the intention was to defend the camp or just a welcome side-effect; but either way, I wondered it was a perfect solution if the tense attitude the people were showing as they walked around, some alone,, some in groups. But all alert. However, even in that tense chaos, there were small islands of calm. A large pot of boiling food, guarded by eight people, with a line in front, people ex

  • #24: Outer Camp

As I walked closer to the camp, I received a better view of the workings of the operation. Some details, like the mismatched pieces of armor and damaged weapons, I already expected to see. Some, like the constant verbal battles between different patrol groups, even more intense than I expected, was a surprise. However, most of my attention was firmly fixed on the way they were fighting. It was unnatural. Even among the patrol teams, there was absolutely no coordination, each battling against a creature, even to the point of occasionally injuring each other.Yet, that wasn't as interesting as the way they swing their weapons. Every single warrior I could see was … for lack of a better term, stiff. Some limited themselves to wide, sweeping slashes, while others limited themselves to stabbing movements. For some, it was reasonable, as a spear was rather limited in terms of attack options, but even the ones that were using others weapons, like halberds and great swords, were lim

  • #23: Caravan Infiltration

I managed to stay in the river for the whole day, continuing with my unusual method of fishing, even as the beasts got stronger and stronger, though not as much to prevent me from handling them from a strike from my sword.《+54 Experience》 《+130 Experience》 … 《+71 Experience》 《+30 Experience》"At least, it was not all bad," I murmured as I pushed to the surface once more. More confident, now that the darkness had fallen once more, not afraid that I would be noticed by the occasional flying Court or fortress that was in the sky.The number of Flying Courts alone had reached a dozen, while the smaller Courts had reached almost three digits, further highlighting the capabilities of the world I had found myself in.Hiding was turning out to be better and better. At least, until I felt a sudden sense of presence underneath me! One that I recognized as the weight of the Charisma, though it hit me differently than Toross' aura of trust — later replaced with some kind of

  • #22: River Journey

I forced my eyes open even as I swung my sword, cutting down the approaching beast before I could even get a sense. I didn't want to take the risk of getting damaged, not when my reserves of Health had already dwindled.《+33 Experience》A small gain, but not useless. I swung my arm again, even as I calculated my capacity to hold my breath, my free arm enough to keep me down underwater. Several more fish rushed forward, immediately after the first one, forcing me to swing my arm again. The benefits of the stats were the only reason I could treat the river as a liquid highway rather than the mortal danger it was supposed to represent. The violent pull of the water was easily counteracted by one-arm swimming thanks to my enhanced strength, and the aggressive rush of the carnivorous fish was easily detected by my Perception.Still, I was glad for the enhancement I had received from that Ability. Without it, I doubted the experience would have been as smooth. That did

  • #21: River Escape

Boring was an interesting way to define a sprint through an otherworldly forest filled with overgrown wild beasts that were getting exceedingly hostile to human life, with some kind of corrupting fire still spreading behind me.But, as the night started to fall down, that was the best description of my mood. The run was hard to describe as comfortable, even with all the advantages given by the stats, but monotone was a good way to describe it. Even the constant attacks of the monsters — with the beasts getting more and more dangerous the farther I had moved from the fire that was still ongoing.Regardless of the healthiness of such a mood, it meant that I had some time to consider my position. First, my assets: a five-denica piece of silver that managed to stay in my pocket despite all the chaos — the bigger piece unfortunately lost — a magical sword that I barely used, and a steel dagger that was at the end of its life due to constant usage.I didn't know exactly ho
