"So, what's next," I asked even as I glanced at the camp of the Reds. The first thing I noticed was a number of carts and wagons, several people loading boxes, while others were gathering some large, pavilion-like tents.
"It seems that we have our next job, scouting the path and creating an advance line," he said. "We don't want any monster to directly attack the camp.""Naturally," I answered. I didn't ask any questions, as, while I tried to avoid the huge crowd, I had already other caravans using a similar strategy while moving, probably to make sure there were no ambushing beasts on the way — especially with my own experience with the huge ambushing monster that came from the deep.Instead of asking questions that would keep my newest ally distracted from his job — and, on the off chance, trigger his suspicion — I stayed at the edge of the camp while he walked inside. I used the opportunity to examine the camp more in detail. The state of the tents and carts was cLatest Chapter
#45: Camp Division
As I walked back with two beasts in tow, I expected two things. First, I expected to meet with the caravan midway as the first carts started to move, hurrying up to catch up with the others. Second, I expected to create a spectacle as I dragged two large beasts back with me. Curiously, neither happened. As I moved back, I could see that, rather than piling the tents on the ground, they were establishing those tents again, just in a tighter manner, closer to the huge bonfire. Very interesting, as other camps were already on the move, which meant that ours would stay back. No one paid attention to me, because everyone was locked into a huge row that was going in the middle of the camp… Between several people, from all three gangs on one side … and Jertann on the other. Curious, I thought as I dragged forward, with most people didn't even paying attention to me, either busy watching the argument or setting the tents. Setting the camp in a tighter
#44: Charisma Lure
"Stay with Master Qimir," I warned Jertann and the rest as we reached the edge of the camp. "The smell of the food will gather a crowd, and I don't want my food to be spoiled, understood?" I said as I finally put down my plate. I had recovered enough to feel confident against an unexpected situation, even some spare to experiment with Charisma. 《Health (182/225)》 "Are you sure you want to go forward alone? Maybe one of us should…" he started, but fell silent after I gestured to him. "Not necessary, not when I finally have my weapon," I declared as I twirled the halberd, making a show of it. A part of it was to turn it into a spectacle, so that my status in the camp would be elevated a bit more to fit my warrior identity … but the real treasure I was after was the Experience. I pushed forward, ignoring the larger groups as I rushed forward. People were hesitant during the night, especially with the absence of the archers, who were the
#43: Camp Delay
Going back to the camp after discarding my disguise was an easy affair, though I still made sure to keep my sword in a way that didn't grab a lot of attention. A magical sword was precious. Exactly how much, I didn't know, but I didn't need an accurate valuation to guess the extent of the trouble it would trigger for me in the camp if that was revealed. And while I was more confident to handle such trouble if the need arose, that didn't mean I would be strutting around, inviting trouble. "Euon, where were you?" was the first question I received as I stepped into the Red section. I might have responded tersely if it wasn't for Jertann's worried tone as he asked the question. Silas and Terma were with him as well, and they were gathered around an open fire, wearing identical worried expressions. Master Qimir was also awake, but he was fiddling with his cart, cooking something if the smell was any indicator. A good idea, as I had no doubt that mo
#42: Experiment
I took the challenge of dressing seriously, with an intense hurry. The river monster let out a shout of rage as it lingered on the surface, which, luckily, didn't last enough to bring the attention of the camp, which was still occupied by the great battle that was occurring on the other side. The flying Court was still lingering at the spot, and to my surprise, the battle against the tiger was still ongoing — my Perception allowing me to see it clearly, even enough to catch some of the details. Six armored figures attacked the tiger, which was doing its best to retreat to the other side of the water, only to be stopped by the flying carriage. Failing that, the tiger started to pull away. That was not the extent of the reaction. I had noticed a large squad moving toward the tiger, each armed with ranged weapons, a silver-armored figure with them. They were running, but five minutes that passed wasn't enough to cover most of the distance. Interestingly, t
#41: Underwater Retrieval
Five minutes. I just needed to stay under water for five minutes to reach the little corner of hidden items I had prepared. Simple, very simple, I thought even as I dodged another tentacle, followed by another sharp pull to avoid the huge body of the beast, staying as close to the bottom of the river as I could manage. It was dangerous. The temptation to escape the river early, hoping that I could slip back to the camp was sweet, but unless the option was between that and immediate death, I wasn't willing to make that call. Trying to approach the camp from the same direction was a suspicion I couldn't handle, not at the moment. Another slash to kill a fish, even as I used my empty hand to pull myself to the side, dodging another tentacle attack as the beast tried to stay at the same direction as me. I was lucky that the beast was an ambush predator, I realized as I dodged another attack. It was fast, and it was strong, but its underw
#40: River Escape
I was thinking about the best way to level up even after I lay on a thick mat — in my new tent, courtesy of Jertann. The return had been smooth, and I was tempted to lie down and enjoy a long nap — while spending Health kept my body in optimal condition, not sleeping for three days was already taking its mental tool.Especially considering none of those days could be called ordinary by any stretch of the word.Yet, I didn't want to risk delaying the opportunity to level up for another day, for one reason only.Trying to level up in the camp was simply too risky. I didn't know how attentive the soldiers were, how much stock they put into leveling, and just how fast they could run. They could move the full length of the camp in seconds if any of them had Speed unlocked. No, I needed to get out of the camp, and considering the risks implied in the process, I needed to leave the camp without arousing any suspicion.I stayed in the tent for two hours, resting as I
