The man on the other end was Ryan Wane, James' uncle, and the younger brother of his mother.
Ryan Wane is currently the richest man in the whole of Emerald Falls.
He is in charge of all the major companies in the state. He is what you can call the man of the people and everyone loves him because of his philanthropic nature.
James's mom was supposed to be the heir of the rich Wanes family, but she died together with her husband when James was a kid.
So, James's uncle, Ryan Wanes, had to take charge until James got older.
When he knew it was James calling him, he was so excited. He had been looking for James for the past three years after he left home.
"Oh! James! How are you, son? Where have you been all these years?"
"I'm good," James replied.
"Where are you now, James?" His uncle asked him excitedly.
"I'm safe. I want to tell you two things." James declared.
"Go on, James. What's this you want to tell me? I will do whatever you ask."
"The first is I want to let you know that I'm divorced now."
"Divorced?" His uncle asked, surprised.
"Yes."
"Now, what's the second?"
"I want you to buy a company for me."
Surprised and excited, his uncle felt so happy about it. He paid more attention to the first thing he said about getting divorced.
The last time they tried getting in touch with him, James had told them that he was married, and now he's getting divorced, his uncle wondered.
"James, name any company in Emerald Falls and it will be all yours."
"I want you to buy Emerald Multisource Cooperation for me."
Buying a company is not a big deal for him, because he controlled one of the richest consortiums in the country.
Moreover, James is the heir apparent to the Wane dynasty, the richest family in the whole of the country.
As the heir apparent, his whole life was kept secretly from the public eye because of the Wane's enemies all around the country.
He was raised just like every other middle-class kid in the country and was to be revealed as an heir when he graduated from college.
Also, for political alliances, he was supposed to marry Ellen Princeton, the daughter of Donald Princeton who is the richest man in Newhills.
Instead, he fell in love with Alisha Carl, a middle-class girl in his college days, and eloped with her after graduation to become a live-in-son-in-law in her family.
His grandpa, Charles was so angry and disappointed with James that he demanded them not to look for him as he had embarrassed him in the face of Donald Princeton.
Even though Alisha has strong feelings for James, she doesn't have information about his family history or background. She only knows him as someone from a lower-class family
For three good years, everyone in Carl's family treated him like shit and took him as a nobody because according to them, James is a nobody who works as a cleaner in a grocery store while his wife works at the Emerald Multisource Cooperation, one of the biggest companies in Emerald Falls.
However, even after he had given up everything for her, she abandoned him only for the position of manager in Emerald Multisource Cooperation.
"Alright, James. I'll buy the company for you. Just let me know where you are at the moment, and I will have my men come pick you up." his uncle said. "You're the heir to the Dynasty and must not put your life in danger."
"I can take care of myself, uncle. I've been doing that for the past three years now."
"You still need to be protected."
"What about Ellen?" James finally asked his uncle.
"Well, Since you left, and did not honor them, the marriage was canceled. The Princetons dislike you now James. You have created more enemies for our family." His uncle said sadly.
James did not say anything. He felt sorry for how everything had turned out, most especially for Ellen, all because of the love he had for Alisha and now she is divorcing him.
'I must be a simp now,' he thought.
"I'm sorry uncle I didn't intend for everything to turn out this way."
"It's okay now son."
Just immediately as he ended the call, Alisha and Jaxon both came out of the company, too.
Alisha supported Jaxon to walk as his face was all bruised and battered and he could barely stand upright.
Jaxon with blood on his face continued to curse James with resentful words.
"You son of a b*tch, just so you know, I'll get back at you. You'll suffer in my hands till you die okay?" Jaxon said harshly.
Alisha helped him and he managed to get into his car and drove away.
James didn’t care because he would get the company soon, become the owner, and kick them all out.
A smirk appeared on the corners of his lips.
Alisha asked him to join her in the car but he walked past her without uttering a word.
He didn’t get on her car but rode home on his electric bike, while she drove the car slowly following him.
Looking at his back, she felt so complicated about how it all started.
She loved James. He had always been a very charming young man in college, every woman dreams and that was one of the reasons she fell for him.
They both graduated from one of the best colleges in Emerald Falls and James had asked her to marry him and she accepted.
But soon after the marriage, he became an ordinary cleaner in a local grocery store. working as an employee and he has remained poor ever since.
Meanwhile, she and the rest of their classmates work and earn well in the big companies of Emerald Falls. But this didn't stop her from loving James any less.
When Jaxon came into the picture, everything changed.
With her family’s persuasion, she gradually thought James couldn’t match with her and as such she would be calling off the marriage.
Unlike James, Jaxon is the son of a billionaire. Mr. Sterling, the Chief Executive Officer of Emerald Multisource Cooperation.
Jaxon had bought expensive gifts for Alisha and her mom. He promised to buy even more gifts and said he would give her a big promotion at the company if she agreed to marry him.
She had been hesitant at first and insisted that she would not divorce James but her mother was furious and would not hear any of it.
"What's so good about that poor thing you call a husband?" Kate had scolded her.
"He's kind and I love him so much," Alisha replied.
"Who cares about love anyway." Kate quizzed her.
"I do." She had cried, rolling on the floor.
The whole Carl family mistreated her and told her they would disown her entirely if she did not divorce James and accept the marriage proposal from the Sterlings.
Jaxon kept sending them lavish gifts worth thousands of dollars. Alisha's mom was pleased, and she saw this as a golden opportunity for the family's future.
The promise of the position of the manager was like a dream come true for Alisha.
Finally, she had succumbed to Jaxon's lavishness.
Jaxon always invited her on dinner dates, even when she knew she would be hurting James' feelings. But instead, she had accepted the invites from Jaxon to go out on dates with him.
'Oh my God! What a mess I've gotten myself into.' She thought.

Chapter 573: The Price of Silence
Chapter 573: The Price of Silence The safe house was a small, clinical apartment tucked away in a district where nobody asked for identification. It was a place of white walls and rented furniture, a space meant for transitions, not for lives. For Jaxon and Milly, it was the only place where they spent quality time together. Jaxon stood by the kitchenette, staring at the steam rising from a kettle he hadn't turned off. His eyes were bloodshot, and his hand hovered near his pocket, where his phone sat like a live grenade. Milly watched him from the sofa. She had come here to have a good time with him, but looking at Jaxon, she realized he was even more fractured and broken than EMC. "You’re miles away, Jaxon," Milly said softly. Her voice broke the heavy silence of the room. "I’ve been here for twenty minutes and you haven't said more than ten words." Jaxon blinked, finally reaching out to
Chapter 572: The Divided House
Chapter 572: The Divided House The air inside the Carl family estate was thick with the scent of old wood and the bitter aroma of over-brewed coffee. Outside, the Saturday morning sun was bright, but inside the living room, the atmosphere was as dark as a tomb. Pa Aaron sat in his high-backed leather chair, his face a map of deep lines and ancient authority. Beside him, Ma Pat clutched a lace handkerchief, her eyes red-rimmed. This was not a social visit. Pa Aaron had called a meeting. Kate was the first to arrive, her heels clicking like gunfire against the hardwood. She didn't sit; she paced, her face a mask of cold, vibrating fury. Her husband followed shortly after, his eyes sunken and his skin the color of ash. Then came Mark, Lisa, and Sophia, moving as a silent unit, their faces reflecting the grim reality of the corporate collapse. Alisha arrived last. As she entered the room, the temperature seemed to drop ten de
Chapter 571: The Dinner of Secrets
Chapter 571: The Dinner of Secrets It was Friday evening, the neon sign of The Gilded Oak flickered through the evening drizzle, casting long, wavering shadows across the sidewalk. Inside, the atmosphere was a sharp contrast to the cold, sterile hallways of EMC. The air was warm, smelling of roasted garlic and expensive wine, and the low hum of conversation provided a temporary shield against the outside world. Cara Hart sat at the corner booth, clutching a glass of Cabernet. She was joined by Ana, Alisha, and Milly. They had made a plan to all go out for dinner this weekend and wind down: no work talk. No mentions of the theft, the audits, or the men who ran their lives. But as the main courses were served, the pact felt as flimsy as a paper bridge. Cara sighed, setting her glass down with a heavy thud. "I tried to talk about the weather and my new yoga class, but I feel like my head is going to explode. Eric didn't sleep a wink last night. He was up until 4:00 AM on the phone wi
Chapter 570: The Crack in the Armor
Chapter 570: The Crack in the Armor The high-altitude silence of the executive floor at EMC was usually absolute. It was a silence born of thick carpets, soundproofed glass, and the hushed movements of people who dealt in millions. But at three o'clock on Friday afternoon, that silence was shattered. Ana Davies sat at her desk, her fingers hovering over her keyboard. From behind the heavy oak door of James Clarkson’s office, she heard a sound that made her blood run cold. It wasn't a shout, but a low, vibrating tone of raw stress. James was on a phone call, and for the first time since she had known him, his voice lacked its iron-clad composure. She couldn't make out the specific words through the insulation, but the rhythm of his speech was frantic, punctuated by long, heavy silences. It sounded like a man arguing with a ghost—or a man watching a masterpiece crumble in real-time. Ana sat perfectly still. In the weeks since the eight-billion-dollar theft had gone public, James had
Chapter 569: The Hunted Hunter
Chapter 569: The Hunted Hunter The Friday morning fog clung to the glass of Liam Carter’s penthouse, turning the city into a gray, featureless void. Inside, the atmosphere was just as cold. Liam stood by the window, his back to the room, listening to the steady, rhythmic tapping of a pen against a leather folder. Vance sat on the edge of the velvet sofa, his face etched with the grim satisfaction of a hunter who had finally caught a scent. He didn't wait for Liam to turn around. "I don't trust him, Liam," Vance said, his voice flat and hard. "The man you’ve got running your digital sweep—Gregor. He isn't what he claims to be." Liam turned slowly, his eyes narrowing. "Gregor was brought in by Kai. He’s supposed to be the best forensic analyst in the private sector. What did you find?" "It’s not what I found, it’s what I didn't find," Vance replied, sliding a slim dossier across the marble coffee table. "I decided to investigate the investigator. I ran a deep dive on Gregor’s PI fi

Chapter 568: The Solo ExitThe penthouse was bathed in the cold, blue glow of multiple monitors, the only light in an apartment that felt more like a bunker than a home. Williams Jesse sat motionless, his face reflected in the glass of a wine he hadn't touched. On his screens, the world was ending, but on his ledger, the world was just beginning. He had done it. The eight billion dollars stolen with Sterling was currently a digital ghost, dancing through a labyrinth of offshore shells that even the ESU’s best forensic accountants couldn't map. But Williams hadn't stopped there. While Sterling was busy playing the visionary leader, Williams had quietly bled Sterling’s private accounts for an additional two hundred thousand. It was pocket change compared to the heist, but to Williams, it was the principle—a "genius tax" for the man who thought he was in control. The ESU was chasing phantoms. They were currently following a trail of "overseas hackers" that Williams had meti
