James was still in shock. He had always believed that Alisha loved him as much as he loved her. But It seems that's not the case.
The idea of a divorce was unimaginable to him. It was just a few days ago that they had shared an incredibly passionate night together, and he could tell how addicted she was to their lovemaking.
He silently wished that this surprise visit from his in-laws was some sort of cruel joke, but as he looked at the divorce papers again and again and recognized Alisha's handwriting, reality hit him.
He has been jilted.
"Do you believe it now? You simp!" Kate mocked.
"You have only but tonight to pack your things and get going. Idiot." Henry added.
Alisha had told him that she had been working late at the office recently, using that as an excuse for her continuous absence.
Now, it all made sense to him. The truth was hitting him hard. His wife, whom he loved deeply, had signed those divorce papers without his knowledge or consent.
To make matters worse, it was their wedding anniversary but Alisha was not home yet. Where could she be?
James hurriedly left their presence with the documents and rode his electric bike to Emerald Multisource Cooperation, where his wife worked. The company was just a 10-minute ride away.
Emerald Multisource Cooperation is a massive 113-story skyscraper. It was located at Main Street Park Avenue, in the central city of Emerald Falls making it hard to miss.
It is a versatile company that offers a wide range of products and services. One of the most significant companies in Emerald Falls, managed by the influential Sterling family, known for their wealth and power.
This is why every other company in Emerald Falls is aiming to sign a deal with them or even secure a job there.
Alisha had managed to climb the ranks within the company, which had happened rather suddenly.
James wondered if this rapid rise in her career was somehow connected to her divorcing him.
Perhaps she might be having an affair with one of her bosses in the company.
He took a deep breath and tried to calm himself down.
The place was quiet, and it seemed like everyone had finished work for the day.
But why was his wife's car still parked right in the front of the building?
The building was not closed yet, so he decided to go to her office.
You're not allowed to get in there," one of the security men on duty shouted at him.
"I beg your pardon?" James managed to say.
"I wasn't speaking to a ghost when I said that earlier," came the reply.
"Um… I need to see my wife."
"What's a loser like you doing here? Your kind isn't welcome," the second guard taunted.
"Your wife is too good for the likes of you. She's better off without you."
"Even if you found your wife, she'd probably be embarrassed by you."
"You look like a pig, get lost," another security man added.
And the others burst out laughing.
James didn't recognize their faces, but he saw their names written on their badge and he made sure to take a mental picture of it.
He managed to get in, thanks to one of the night guards who recognized him and allowed him in.
When he reached the office of his wife, he stopped to listen from the door.
A man was whispering seductively into Alisha's ear. "Baby, you know what you have to do right? Make sure you divorce that loser and I promise I'll marry you. Not only that, but you'll be the manager of the company in no time."
Alisha replied softly, "I know, sweetie."
The man smirked. "Baby, you deserve someone who appreciates your beauty, someone like me, who is ready to spend on you."
"Awwww-nnn," Alisha exclaimed enticingly.
At this point, James was boiling with anger.
Alisha was hesitant. "I just hope he signs those divorce papers tonight. So I can start a new life with you."
"He has no choice."
The man went ahead to ask Alisha for a kiss. He wanted this as a sign that she was committed to him.
"Kiss me, baby."
Even though James was furious, he couldn't do anything except listen from outside as his wife, Alisha, kissed the man.
Unable to contain his emotions any longer, James forcefully kicked the door open.
Inside, he saw his wife sitting on another man's lap, and they were holding each other romantically. Her shirt's bottoms were halfway undone, revealing a part of her bra.
Alisha stood up awkwardly, her face was overeaten with guilt. She instinctively tries to hide her face from James, covering it with her hands as she realizes the consequences of her actions.
She looked extremely surprised and scared because she didn't expect James to be in her workplace at this moment not to talk of finding out about her secret affair with her male lover.
"James! Why are you here and what do you want?" She managed to ask him.
James let out a bitter and scornful laugh. "So it's true, Alisha! All this time, you told me you were working late, and this is what you've been doing?"
Her face turned red. "It's… it's not what you think, James."
The man recognized James, but he still had the audacity to angrily order him to leave.
"Get the f*** out, you b*stard."
James didn't move an inch instead he stared at Alisha who was exceptionally beautiful. She had a stunning face with mesmerizing features that could make anyone fall for her. Her skin was smooth and flawless, like porcelain, and her body had tempting curves that accentuated her classiness.
The man was none other than Jaxon, the heir apparent to the Sterling Dynasty. As in the next in line as the head of the family.
The Sterling family is one of the wealthiest families in the whole of Emerald Falls. Known for their wealth and influence. They have Multi-million dollar Companies running under their family name and everyone respects and fears them.
His father, known as Mr. Thomas Sterling, held the position of CEO at Emerald Multisource Cooperation. This meant that Jaxon had the authority to promote and demote anyone within the company.
This is why Alisha's family had forced her to divorce James and accept the marriage proposal from the Sterlings.
They thought marrying Jaxon would make their family richer and they would be respected in the whole of Emerald Falls.
Marrying Jaxon was a way to get a better position as the manager. After all, Jaxon's father was the CEO at Emerald Multisource Cooperation, the company where Alisha worked.
Jaxon was furious.
'How dare this failure spoil the intimate moment he was having just now.'
He swung his fist to hit James, but James quickly dodged and in return, kicked him hard on the stomach, making him feel pain and stumble back.
"How dare you touch me?"
Alisha was surprised, she had always thought James was a weakling who couldn't fight for himself.
Now very angry, Jaxon tried to slap James in the face, but James stopped the slap with his arm and punched his jaw.
"You will pay for this you son of a b*stard!"
Jaxon grabbed a flowerpot nearby and tried to hit James. But James took it from him and broke it on his forehead instead and blood started oozing.
"Ahhhhhhhhh!" Jaxon started screaming as he fell to the ground trying to cover his already bleeding face.
James wanted to continue beating him, but Alisha intervened and stopped him.
"James, please stop it. Do you want to kill him?"
James, realizing things had gone too far, finally signed the 'Divorce Agreement Paper' and threw it at the both of them.
Since that was what she wanted.
He left the office angrily without saying anything further.
Outside the company, James dialed a number. After a moment, a man's voice answered from the other end, asking, "Who's this?"
James replied, "Uncle, it's your nephew… And I'm ready to come home."

Chapter 573: The Price of Silence
Chapter 573: The Price of Silence The safe house was a small, clinical apartment tucked away in a district where nobody asked for identification. It was a place of white walls and rented furniture, a space meant for transitions, not for lives. For Jaxon and Milly, it was the only place where they spent quality time together. Jaxon stood by the kitchenette, staring at the steam rising from a kettle he hadn't turned off. His eyes were bloodshot, and his hand hovered near his pocket, where his phone sat like a live grenade. Milly watched him from the sofa. She had come here to have a good time with him, but looking at Jaxon, she realized he was even more fractured and broken than EMC. "You’re miles away, Jaxon," Milly said softly. Her voice broke the heavy silence of the room. "I’ve been here for twenty minutes and you haven't said more than ten words." Jaxon blinked, finally reaching out to
Chapter 572: The Divided House
Chapter 572: The Divided House The air inside the Carl family estate was thick with the scent of old wood and the bitter aroma of over-brewed coffee. Outside, the Saturday morning sun was bright, but inside the living room, the atmosphere was as dark as a tomb. Pa Aaron sat in his high-backed leather chair, his face a map of deep lines and ancient authority. Beside him, Ma Pat clutched a lace handkerchief, her eyes red-rimmed. This was not a social visit. Pa Aaron had called a meeting. Kate was the first to arrive, her heels clicking like gunfire against the hardwood. She didn't sit; she paced, her face a mask of cold, vibrating fury. Her husband followed shortly after, his eyes sunken and his skin the color of ash. Then came Mark, Lisa, and Sophia, moving as a silent unit, their faces reflecting the grim reality of the corporate collapse. Alisha arrived last. As she entered the room, the temperature seemed to drop ten de
Chapter 571: The Dinner of Secrets
Chapter 571: The Dinner of Secrets It was Friday evening, the neon sign of The Gilded Oak flickered through the evening drizzle, casting long, wavering shadows across the sidewalk. Inside, the atmosphere was a sharp contrast to the cold, sterile hallways of EMC. The air was warm, smelling of roasted garlic and expensive wine, and the low hum of conversation provided a temporary shield against the outside world. Cara Hart sat at the corner booth, clutching a glass of Cabernet. She was joined by Ana, Alisha, and Milly. They had made a plan to all go out for dinner this weekend and wind down: no work talk. No mentions of the theft, the audits, or the men who ran their lives. But as the main courses were served, the pact felt as flimsy as a paper bridge. Cara sighed, setting her glass down with a heavy thud. "I tried to talk about the weather and my new yoga class, but I feel like my head is going to explode. Eric didn't sleep a wink last night. He was up until 4:00 AM on the phone wi
Chapter 570: The Crack in the Armor
Chapter 570: The Crack in the Armor The high-altitude silence of the executive floor at EMC was usually absolute. It was a silence born of thick carpets, soundproofed glass, and the hushed movements of people who dealt in millions. But at three o'clock on Friday afternoon, that silence was shattered. Ana Davies sat at her desk, her fingers hovering over her keyboard. From behind the heavy oak door of James Clarkson’s office, she heard a sound that made her blood run cold. It wasn't a shout, but a low, vibrating tone of raw stress. James was on a phone call, and for the first time since she had known him, his voice lacked its iron-clad composure. She couldn't make out the specific words through the insulation, but the rhythm of his speech was frantic, punctuated by long, heavy silences. It sounded like a man arguing with a ghost—or a man watching a masterpiece crumble in real-time. Ana sat perfectly still. In the weeks since the eight-billion-dollar theft had gone public, James had
Chapter 569: The Hunted Hunter
Chapter 569: The Hunted Hunter The Friday morning fog clung to the glass of Liam Carter’s penthouse, turning the city into a gray, featureless void. Inside, the atmosphere was just as cold. Liam stood by the window, his back to the room, listening to the steady, rhythmic tapping of a pen against a leather folder. Vance sat on the edge of the velvet sofa, his face etched with the grim satisfaction of a hunter who had finally caught a scent. He didn't wait for Liam to turn around. "I don't trust him, Liam," Vance said, his voice flat and hard. "The man you’ve got running your digital sweep—Gregor. He isn't what he claims to be." Liam turned slowly, his eyes narrowing. "Gregor was brought in by Kai. He’s supposed to be the best forensic analyst in the private sector. What did you find?" "It’s not what I found, it’s what I didn't find," Vance replied, sliding a slim dossier across the marble coffee table. "I decided to investigate the investigator. I ran a deep dive on Gregor’s PI fi
