Wrong Moves
Kai quietly walked away from the dining area, battling the pain that was trying to drown him.
“When did I become this helpless and useless?” he mused. It was hurting him to be in that situation. He could barely even afford a decent life. He was feeling frustrated.
The days that followed were characterised by him searching for ways to get back on his feet , financially.
He had quit his job at the Ross company after his marriage to Scarlet because they all felt it was better he stayed back for his wife's sake.
Now, he has no job.
“I think the best thing would be to reconnect with that job. I guess I have to plead with William to let me work again.”
He mused over and over about what to do and finally came to the conclusion that he would meet his father in-law.
It was a public holiday and William Ross was home fully. He was a man who loved to spend time with his wife and daughter whenever he got the chance.
Kai found him at the garden but he was having a heart to heart conversation with Valentina. He sensed that it would be a wrong time to approach him, so, he walked back and waited to see if the conversation would eventually end.
While he was waiting by the balcony, he heard footsteps dragging and approaching him it was Scarlet.
Her eyes fell on him and she gave him a scathing look.
“Why are you here?” She attacked him.
“I was just sitting and looking out for some freshness. Is there something wrong with it?”
Everything about him often irritated her and she always ground a reason to poke him with her meanness.
“And you didn't find any chores to run within the house?”
“But I am no maid!” Kai retorted softly. “Scarlet, why do you think it is okay to treat me with such contempt?”
*You deserve worse, you godforsaken fellow! Stop throwing a pity party and find something useful to do with your life!”
“I will definitely get my job back and I am sure you will be proud of me again.”
“In your life, that will never happen,” she scoffed and walked briskly away. She was so irritated by him that every chance she got was for her to spell out to him how much she disliked him and hated his presence.
A distraught Kai looked down at the garden and noticed that William was now alone. Valentina had gone into the house.
He made up his mind that that was the best time to try his luck. So, he walked in calculated steps to the garden where William was seated.
William was reading a business document when he heard the leaves ruffling. He turned around to see who was coming and grimaced at the sight of Kai.
That expression caused a gust of anxiety to rush over Kai as he wondered if the conversation would end well eventually.
Once he was close to William, he stuttered “please, if you aren't too busy sir, I would like to speak with you.”
William ignored him for a few minutes before raising his head and crossing his legs. He was trying to maintain a stoic expression.
“What is it?”
“I was wondering if perhaps you could take me back into your company to resume my previous position or any other available positions. I feel I need to get busy as a man especially now that Scarlet is expecting a child.”
William laughed at him with a large amount of hysteria.
“Oh… is she expecting a baby?” He mocked. “A baby that is yours? I had no idea that you were such a masculine man.”
Kai felt a gust of shame rush through him. He knew that William was simply mocking him but he had no response for that.
“Well, I basically have no issues with having you back. We could use a janitor or an errand man. However, you would have to askem your wife for permission.”
Kai was taken aback. He could not understand why he had to do that.
“If you do not mind sir, may I know why I need to do that?” He asked, trying to maintain a calm and respectful voice and disposition.
“Because, she is my daughter and I have to be sure that you starting a job will not affect her health.”
“But sir, she is fine without me besides, there are maids and servants all over the house who could take care of her while I am away.”
Kai's voice was becoming increasingly husky and his eyes almost glistened with tears.
“She needs her husband not the maids. Did you forget that she is pregnant?” William was looking infuriated now and he would stop at nothing to bring Kai's emotions down.
“But I am not even the father,” Kai mumbled gently and William whose fists were clenched threw a punch at him and he fell backwards, landing on a pole of leaves.
“You should never dare speak about my daughter with such gross disrespect! If you dare it again, I will have you locked up for no reason at all.”
With that, William stormed out of the garden, leaving Kai battling with awe and sadness.
He could not understand why they were being so protective of her in that manner when it was clear that she did get pregnant for someone else and they all knew about it.
“What have I gotten myself into?” Kai wailed. He sat on the pile of leaves, allowing his mind to wander to the days past when he still had some sanity in his life.
It seemed like he had come a long way from having a normal, happy life.
He could not fathom how and why he allowed himself to sink so deep into this marriage such that he had to lose himself in the process.
“I don't even recognize myself anymore,” Kai whispered aloud to himself, breathing heavily and letting the rising rage pass off.
He wished more than ever that he did n
ot have to go back to the same house for shelter and food.
His life was truly a mess.

Justice For The Billionaire Heir CHAPTER 9: Rejoining the Family of Power
Kai’s heart thudded like a caged bird as he stepped into the marble-floored foyer of the Mitchell estate—a place he hadn’t seen in years. The air was cool and smelled faintly of polished wood and old money, a stark contrast to the damp, cluttered apartments of his recent past. He could almost hear the ghostly echoes of childhood footsteps. Yet, today wasn’t about memories—it was about reclaiming a future. In the hushed quiet of the corridor, Kai’s footsteps faltered. His mind raced with questions he’d long avoided: Could a man so broken ever find a place among titans? Would his father’s towering shadow now provide shelter, or simply remind him of all that he had lost? He paused at a heavy oak door, its surface etched with the delicate filigree of a bygone era. His hand trembled before he knocked, a faint, cadenced knock that sounded far louder than he heard. The door creaked open, revealing James Mitchell standing there. His eyes, a steely gray softened by a hint of sorrow, met Kai’s

"Today's a new start, Kai," James announced the moment they stepped into a sparsely furnished training room. The room was more theater than gym—naked walls, frayed mats, and some equipment that had better days behind it. But it felt purposeful.Kai rocked back, knotted tension inside his belly. "I'm still that cowering kid," he admitted softly, his words raspy with emotion. "Every punch I take, every step I take—it still throbs like I'm there by myself."James nodded, his expression solemn but gentle. "It's not about forgetting the past, son. It's about applying it. I want you to see each scar as proof of survival, as inspiration for what's ahead." He stopped, looking around the room. "We have a lot to work through today."From the corner, a man with a calm yet determined tone joined in. “I’m Marcus,” he introduced himself, extending a calloused hand. “I’ve been working with James for years. Let’s start with the basics—your body is your fortress, Kai.”Kai took Marcus’s hand, feeling

"Who is this?" he answered back, his own voice whisper-thin and guarded, all in spite of the whirlpool of emotions buried beneath his peaceful façade.A lean, tall figure emerged out of the shadows—a woman, young and with eyes that darted nervously but shone with unspoken truths. "Name's Lydia," she whispered close, almost as if she spoke into his heart rather than his ears. "I—I've served in the Ross house for years, and I… I know things. Things you have to know."Kai's brow furrowed as he stepped forward. "What do you mean, things I need to know?" After all of it. His voice held a note of both suspicion and a desperate hope that finally, someone cared enough to inform him of the things no one ever said.Lydia glanced about, her voice trembling as she continued, "I've seen it all—every cruel word, every distorted p

"Kai, tonight it's happening," Marcus whispered softly and urgently as he and Kai crouched in a secluded corner of a pricey boardroom at a high-profile industry conference. "The Meridian Capital deal—a massive piece of the Ross empire—is going to be signed tonight."Kai bent forward, his voice stern but with an underlying passion, "I know, Marcus. Meridian has provided the financial core of Ross's business for much too long. If we manage to scupper this deal, it'll be the first big crack in their hold.""Right," said Marcus, "and I've made arrangements through our insider sources. Layla promised me that several key files and emails that prove fraudulent transactions are in position. They are kept on Meridian's secure servers."Kai’s eyes narrowed, and his tone grew firm, “This coup is the culmination of everything—the long nights spent piecing together evidence, every whispered secret from disillusioned insiders. It’s time to strike at the heart of their machinery.”Then there was Ele

Kai replied, his voice low as if not wanting to carry his words past the ear of trusted microphones. It confirms what we suspected," Marcus continued. "There's a tangled web in the Ross financial transactions—offshore accounts that are not declared, internal memos plotting unauthorized transfers, and even schedules of clandestine meetings between senior officials. Layla's insider evidence is the key.".There was a pause before Kai answered, "That's the kind of truth we're looking for. If we can attack them where their money is being tampered with and their transactions sealed by fraud, we may finally crack their operation wide open."."Ah yes indeed," Marcus stated. "Let us proceed with our next action right now. You see, the plan to devise an undercover leak to the financial press. I already talked with one of the b

His voice was low, the question flavored with surprise and protective hope. Not with me, Kai," she murmured quietly, "but with all of us who've been victimized by the repressive rulers of Ross regime. What in the world has happened?" Clarissa whispered softly and worriedly as they stood clasped together in a tiny back office room far out of sight of curious eyes.Scarlett's answer was laced with bitterness, "Day by day, it feels like my carefully built reputation is crumbling. The emails which were meant to be flawless now have errors, and the board members are already questioning the decisions I have made.""Are you referring to the previous quarterly report?" Clarissa asked softly, worry on her face."Just exactly," Scarlett shot back, her fists bunching into tight fists, "I published the forecast and—ugh—there were errors. It wasn't an error. "We have to bring down the Ross empire from the inside out, and that starts with a strategy—everything has to be thought out.""Then let's begin," Marcus interrupted. "We've gathered our evidence, and now we need to decide how to use it. I believe we should create a dossier so comprehensive that even their most ardent supporters can't help but discredit it."Elena nodded discreetly, "I've already started gathering documents, tapes, and testimony. Each piece of proof is a stone in the structure of our plan."Julian's voice dropped, his words measured, "We need to take care how we release this. One poor leak and the whole mission is over."
