"Oh snap!"

Clara felt restless the moment she arrived at work. Her mind kept circling back to Matt—what if he did something reckless again? He had the tendency to destroy things; like her perfect relationship with Jason, his plan over her life and her heart.

The recent footage from the camera she’d installed at her old house played in her thoughts. Last Tuesday, she discovered Matt hadn’t gone out but met someone near her apartment building instead. Now it was Monday, no less, the most dreaded day of the week.

She wondered what he would do today.she wondered how he would feel when he realized she didn't call him before living for work and if he gets to her place, he would be stranded outside.

'I need more cameras', she decided quietly to herself.

She’d already mounted a few in discreet corners of her new apartment, determined to catch any of Matt’s missteps. If he was going down a dangerous path with drugs, she wouldn’t go down with him.

Matt blinked, confused as Clara suddenly broke their kiss. Before he could speak, she leaned in again, this time her hand sliding slowly toward his zipper. Her breath was warm against his lips as she whispered, “You’re hard... for me.” Was it fear? Matt couldn’t tell. But he gently pulled back, searching her eyes for some sign — anger, resentment, a reason — but found only her plain, steady gaze. She bit her lower lip, a habit he adored; the subtle, unguarded way she acted dirty without concern of who might be watching or where they were. That vulnerability made him smile. Yet, he had been bracing for a different reaction: a scolding, a fury for what he’d done.He had expected her to nag and hit him.“I told you, I might have been stalking. Your location, Clara,” Matt repeated, half-joking, trying to gauge her mood. She kissed him again, stepping around to the other side of the car, yanking the passenger door open. She slid in gracefully, balancing on the seat with a quiet c

  • 48: Homesick

She woke up, the sun filtering softly through her curtains. First thing on her mind was the smoothie waiting in the fridge she had done last night—her fuel before the jog she desperately needed. It was her day off, and Clara needed to do something, anything, before she exploded from the pressure building inside her. Her probation, the lawsuit and Kage's indifference. He didn't even talk to her about it.Her hair was pulled high into a ponytail, sweat already beginning to cling to her gym clothes as her heart raced—not from exertion yet, but from the relentless thoughts swirling through her mind. Was she doing the right thing with Matt? she wondered. Facing Kage was inevitable, but wouldn’t it be logical to confront them both at once? The question gnawed at her. She felt trapped between a rock and a hard place. How come the two men she hated most in her life are the closest to her?!Clara knew she needed more evidence—something solid that wouldn’t implicate her. The drugs migh

  • 47: Now, that's a threat

A week had passed, and Clara had asked Kage to wait for her lawyer’s contact, but still no news had come. Was she bluffing?'I had expected more,' Kage thought, eyes narrowing slightly. He had already spoken with Alfie about it, and they were waiting for the right moment—when Clara made her move—to bring their evidence to court. Since this was what she wanted, they’d assist her in ruining her life.He knew he should wonder what her evidence and case might be but nevertheless, she was even yet to contact his lawyer. He hoped she didn't back out.Evening settled over the hospital, the café's buzz fading to a low hum. Kage hesitated, the thought of leaving pulling at him, yet he lingered, wanting just a few more minutes. Instead of heading home, he decided to stay and watch the ebb and flow of people passing by, unbothered lives unfolding. Well, not all of them looked unbothered.Although Kage had told John to give him a moment, he didn’t even look for the man; he knew John was nearby

  • 46: CLEAR!

Did she really do something wrong? Clara toyed with the thought as she gripped the steering wheel, her knuckles white. She knew she hadn’t been entirely at fault—but accepting her current predicament felt like swallowing poison. Taking her hard-earned position away? That was too far.Her phone vibrated on the passenger seat—a missed call from Kage. She ignored it. Why answer? After all, yesterday’s chaos was his fault. He had broken into her apartment, dragging a mess into her life she’d never wanted. Matt—the walking disaster—had become a living nightmare. As Clara pulled into the hospital garage, she resolved to use the back elevator—the one tucked away and favored by Kage. The front entrance, bustling with staff gossip and judgmental glances, was a battlefield she didn’t want to face. She felt the weight of sweaty embarrassment settle over her chest as she avoided eye contact with almost everyone, especially MD Cassandra. Usually cordial, this time Clara avoided her gaze altogether

  • 45: Code blue

As Kage rode out of a post-operative patient’s room, his eyes caught sight of Clara pacing down the hall, phone pressed tightly to her ear. A nearby CCTV camera followed her every move, and he allowed himself a brief, sharp thought: Does she really want to be seen this much? What’s she hiding this time? Why would even even have to stand right in front of it?His glance shifted abruptly as a frail figure in a nearby room attempted to stand, her face twisted in pain before she crumpled back down. Kage didn’t hesitate — shifting swiftly toward the door just as a nurse rushed in, breathless, helping the woman back onto the bed.Suddenly, the intercom screamed a piercing Code Blue alarm:“Code Blue, Room 307! Repeat, Code Blue, Room 307!”Realization hit Kage instantly—he was already there. He approached Katie’s side, steadying her as she trembled, clutching her chest. “Give me the patient file,” he ordered, his voice calm but authoritative. Her skin was pale; fear carved deep lines into h
