"I heard the family head brought the fifth young master back, the cripple! And I heard a piece of interesting news" One of the maids whispered to her friend while heading towards the main villa.

"The fifth young master? What happened to him?"

"I have a friend working in his courtyard, she heard he was taken in as a disciple by the head of royal guards in the imperial palace!"

"Isn't he a cripple? Why would anyone consider taking him in as a disciple, unless it's to befriend the Frostmoon family." She asked with a curious expression, seemingly interested in the juicy gossip.

"I don't know either, I just know he was taken in as a disciple, he would probably join the royal guards." She replied with a light shrug.

"Are you joking? Royal guards? How is he supposed to join if he can't cultivate? The discipleship must've been to create ties with the Frostmoon family, there's no cultivator who would seriously train a cripple, there's nothing profitable in it."

'He's still alive? And he was taken in as a disciple by one of the rare few ember core realm cultivators in the nation, what actually happened after I left him behind in the forest?' Chris had a frown on his face, the news had jeopardized his plan badly, if Draxus was taken in as a disciple there would be no way to "punish" him anymore.

"Sixth young master, the mistress called for you." A voice came behind him, drawing Chris out of his stupor.

He turned to find a maid, dressed in the custom maid attire, a respectful look on her face with a light bow.

"O-Okay, I'm on my way." He replied, a solemn look on his face, he could already figure out the purpose behind the sudden summon.

'How did he survive?? I clearly checked before I left, he was already dead, meridians shattered, his breath gone, all signs of life were extinguished how is he still alive?' he thought with fists clenched, walking towards his mother's courtyard.

"Where's she?"

"In the yard, I'll be waiting outside young master." The maid replied, gave a light bow then left the courtyard.

Taking in a deep breath Chris steeled his heart and walked towards the yard, his mother Valeria was waiting there, her hands caressing a flower gently.

"Mother, I'm here."

"Chris, I thought you did what I requested for?" She asked with a soothing voice, even though she was literally requesting for her fifteen years old kid to kill his step brother.

"I swear I did it, I checked over and over and I'm sure he had lost all vitality I don't know why he's still alive."

"Don't bother, I was just asking, don't worry about him anymore it's beyond your abilities now, work harder and cultivate up to the spiritual awakening realm then I'll send you out for training." She said with a smile, gently rubbing Chris's hair.

"I'm sorry, I disappointed you."

"No you didn't, things just didn't go your way that's all, don't bother about him anymore, strive harder to attain the ember core realm in the future, I believe in you Chris."

---

'I don't know how he managed to survive that and I might not be able to kill him again but I'll teach him a lesson before he leaves. According to what they said he's still in the villa, I'll have to force him into a duel at the arena.' Chris thought while walking across the hallway, making his way towards 'Draxus's' courtyard.

'I should make a breakthrough soon, then I'll be in the spiritual awakening realm, even if he survived that he's still a low tier body tempering realm cultivator, there's no way he could match up....'

Walking right into Draxus' courtyard without a care the maids working nearby were startled, paying their greetings in a hurry.

"Where is Draxus?"

"The fifth young master left for a walk a few minutes ago."

"Where did he go?" Chris asked with a frown.

"I think it was that direction." One of the maids pointed out with a fluttered expression, it was usual for the sixth young master to occasionally pay a 'visit' to Draxus for various reasons.

Chris left the courtyard, followed the direction indicated by the maid, catching up to Yan Ming who was leisurely strolling around.

"Draxus!!" Chris called out, walking towards him with long strides.

"Well... What have we here, your name's Chris or something right?" Yan Ming asked with a light tone.

"Did you hit your head Draxus? You forgot who I am? Looks like you need a few lessons." Chris said, a menacing look on his face.

"I just can't recall the names and faces of every insignificant being I see out there, forgetting most is pretty normal." Yan Ming replied, turned and continued along the walkway.

"Did you just call me insignificant??" Chris asked, his voice low and threatening, like the voice of a tiger awakening from slumber.

"If you call it that then yes, you are indeed insignificant, there's nothing remarkable about you to remember." He replied with a light shake of his head.

Chris stood rooted on the spot, his face filled with anger, fuming from the rage building up in his chest. "If I really am so insignificant why don't we have a duel to affirm that? Don't think of yourself so highly just because you became the disciple of a top expert!"

'A disciple? I don't recall him having a master right? Another memory glitch?' Yan Ming wondered.

{I don't think so, it's unlikely, what are you going to do about his challenge?}

'Challenge? Why would I agree to a duel against a mortal cultivator a realm lower than me? It's pointless.' He thought with a shake of his head.

"Are you mocking me?!" Chris screamed, nearly lunging out in rage, the only reason he was still rational was the rule that forbid the members from fighting in the Mansion's premises.

'I'll teach him a little lesson though, nothing much.' Yan Ming thought, walked towards Chris, placed a hand on his shoulder and said.

"Your realm is still a tad bit too low to challenge me, return to seclusion and reflect on yourself." A surge of Qi rushed from the tips of his fingers, towards Chris's meridians, his Qi paths, violently rupturing through it, each of them withering like leaves during autumn.

The moment he felt the surge rush into his body, Chris stepped back in a hurry, his eyes open wide in shock.

"You.. what did you do to me?!"

  • What Remains: End Of Book One

A year later, the coalition that had once formed purely from desperate necessity had settled into something considerably more permanent — a genuine, lasting alliance between eleven territories that continued cooperating on trade, mutual defense, and the ongoing work of ensuring the Concord's dissolved structures never again coalesced into anything resembling their former, coercive unity. Tian Shen, now formally recognized as the alliance's primary coordinating voice, had proven himself as capable a peacetime leader as he'd been a wartime commander, the Tian clan's territory flourishing under his continued, thoughtful governance. Long Xue had settled into a role as the alliance's primary liaison to the void dragon clan's reforming leadership, her own journey from grief-driven hunter to genuine, trusted ally now complete in ways that had transformed her entirely from the cold, calculating figure who'd once ambushed Yan Ming at the Withering Garden's threshold. She vi

  • A Quiet Return

Nearly six months after the convergence's collapse, with the coalition's rebuilding efforts finally settling into sustainable, ongoing rhythm rather than urgent, demanding crisis, Yan Ming and Qing Chun found themselves, for the first time since their tournament victory so long ago, with genuine, unhurried time to simply exist together without the weight of imminent catastrophe pressing against every decision. "Do you remember," Qing Chun said, as they walked together through the same tournament city where their journey had first properly begun, its streets considerably more peaceful now than the chaotic, celebration-filled days following Yan Ming's unexpected victory, "when you told me jade necklaces were useless, and then bought me one anyway?" "I remember," he said, managing a genuine, warm smile at the memory's simplicity, so distant now from everything they'd since endured together. "You still have it?" "Always." She touched the necklace at her throat, the s

  • Rebuilding

The weeks that followed brought the considerable, demanding work of transitioning from war back toward peace, the coalition's eleven territories gradually shifting their focus from coordinated military preparation toward the equally challenging task of helping the Concord's absorbed sects and territories reestablish independent governance, free from the coercive unity Feng Lie Zun's ambition had once imposed upon them. Tian Shen took a leading role in this transition, his diplomatic skill proving as valuable in peace as it had been in building the original alliance, carefully navigating the complicated process of restoring trust and autonomy to territories that had spent years under the Concord's controlling influence. "It's slower work than the battle itself, in some ways," he admitted to Yan Ming, during one of their regular strategy sessions turned peace-building consultations. "Fighting has a clear beginning and end. Rebuilding trust, restoring genuine inde

  • The Warden's Confirmation

Three days after the battle's conclusion, as the coalition's forces settled into the considerable work of managing the Concord's dissolved territory and beginning the delicate process of reintegrating absorbed sects back into independent governance, Yan Ming found himself once more drawn toward quiet solitude, old habit of reflection reasserting itself amid the aftermath's demanding, ongoing activity. He found Qing Chun and Long Xue already waiting near the makeshift camp's quiet edge when a familiar, layered voice broke the evening's stillness. "You've accomplished something remarkable," the Warden said, materializing with the same unhurried, patient grace that had marked his previous appearances, grey robes settling around him as though he'd simply always been present, watching quietly from just beyond ordinary perception. "I confess, even I hadn't fully anticipated this particular resolution." "You knew about Feng Lie Zun's manipulation?" Yan Ming asked, old

  • The Battle

They emerged from the spire's shattered entrance to a scene of considerable, ongoing chaos, the coalition's massive diversionary force still locked in fierce engagement with the Concord's outer defenses, though the battle's character had visibly shifted in the time they'd spent within the spire's confines. Concord soldiers, no longer receiving coordinated command from whatever central authority had directed their earlier, disciplined resistance, fought now with the scattered, uncertain desperation of an army that sensed something fundamental had changed. "The convergence's collapse must be affecting them," Yan Ming observed, studying the battlefield's shifted dynamics with old, tactical assessment despite his considerable exhaustion. "Whatever loyalty bound them to Feng Lie Zun's cause, it's clearly tied at least partially to the array's continued function." "Then let's make sure that collapse continues," Long Xue said, already moving toward the nearest cluster

  • What Remains Between Brothers

They rested amid the chamber's settling wreckage for a long while, exhaustion from the confrontation's staggering demands finally, fully catching up to all four of them. Qing Chun leaned heavily against Yan Ming, her cultivation reserves depleted almost entirely by the containment technique's considerable exertion, though her eyes remained open, alert despite the fatigue. "You're alright?" Yan Ming asked, old concern evident despite his own considerable exhaustion. "I will be," she said, managing a tired but genuine smile. "Tianyi says the depletion is significant but not dangerous. Just needs time to properly recover." Long Xue settled nearby, void-attribute qi finally quieting after the confrontation's demanding exertion, her gaze drifting toward Feng Lie Zun's kneeling, exhausted form with old, complicated wariness that hadn't entirely faded despite his genuine cooperation. "What happens to you now?" Feng Lie Zun looked up slowly, old weariness and somethi
