He caught her staring and smiled slightly.
"I don't have cab fare."
Faye blinked, confused for a heartbeat.
He chuckled under his breath, the sound low and strangely comforting.
Without waiting for her answer, he started toward the exit.
As they crossed the wide lobby, whispers broke out all around them.
"Who is he?"
"Chairman Hargrove knelt to him. Knelt!"
"Maybe he's... someone powerful we just don’t know about?"
The stares burned into Yemin’s back, but he didn't seem to notice.
Or maybe — Faye thought, heart pounding —
Faye Langford gripped the steering wheel tighter as Yemin Ravollor slid into the passenger seat beside her, casual and unbothered, as if he hadn’t just turned the whole city’s elite upside down.
Her mind reeled.
First Group A’s CEO treated him like royalty... now Chairman Hargrove too?
Just who exactly did Katherine Shaw divorce?
She stole a glance at Yemin, who was staring out the window calmly, looking almost... detached from reality.
But then again, she thought, confused, how could someone so powerful not even have cab fare? Shouldn’t he have fleets of black cars, drivers, assistants falling over themselves to please him?
The contradiction gnawed at her, but for now, she was just... happy to help. Even if none of this made sense.
Just as she started the car, the loud patter of heels echoed across the marble steps.
"Wait!" a feminine voice cried out.
Both Yemin and Faye turned toward the sound.
A tall, striking woman came rushing out of the Hargrove mansion. Long glossy hair spilled down her back, and her emerald dress clung to her body like a second skin. She was breathtaking — and she only had eyes for Yemin.
"You..." she breathed, stopping right in front of the car door.
Faye blinked in surprise.
"Angel?" she murmured under her breath.
The woman — none other than Chairman Hargrove’s daughter, Isla Hargrove — ignored everyone else. She leaned into the open window on Yemin's side, her perfume rich and heady.
"Thank you," she whispered, her hand reaching in to lightly touch Yemin’s arm.
Yemin chuckled lightly, amused.
Isla’s hand slid down his arm in a way that was far too familiar for Faye’s liking.
"Everyone else failed him. Only you... only you brought him back."
Faye stiffened, her knuckles whitening on the steering wheel.
"You must let me take you to dinner," Isla pressed, her eyes glinting with something more than just gratitude.
Yemin smiled lazily, the corners of his mouth lifting in mild amusement.
"But I'm more of a burger-and-fries type of guy, if you don't mind."
Isla laughed, a musical sound.
She leaned in closer, almost brushing against him.
Faye’s jaw clenched.
Seriously?
Out of nowhere, Katherine Shaw's cruel words from earlier rang in Faye’s head:
"He leeches onto powerful women. Feeds off them. You’ll see."
Faye shook her head slightly, trying to banish the thought.
But watching Isla practically melt over him made her stomach twist with a strange, uncomfortable emotion.
Jealousy.
Pure, unfiltered jealousy.
"I should probably go," Yemin said casually, shooting a glance at Faye.
Faye coughed, hiding her flustered reaction.
Isla pouted dramatically.
Yemin laughed, reaching into his jacket.
"But if you ever call past midnight, I'm charging triple."
Isla took the card as if it were made of gold, cradling it against her chest.
Faye rolled her eyes so hard she almost gave herself a headache.
As Yemin settled back into his seat and Faye pulled away from the mansion, the silence between them stretched uncomfortably.
After a long moment, Faye couldn’t help herself.
Yemin shot her a sideways glance, smirking.
Faye bristled.
"You sure?" he teased lightly, resting an arm casually on the window ledge.
"I wasn’t," Faye snapped too quickly.
Yemin chuckled, the sound rich and lazy, like he found her reaction adorable.
Faye huffed, turning her eyes back to the road.
"Oh, I wasn’t flirting," Yemin said smoothly.
He added with a grin,
Faye choked on a laugh despite herself.
But deep down, that knot of jealousy and confusion tightened in her gut.
She didn’t know who Yemin Ravollor truly was...
A fraud?
A wanderer playing at being king?
Or something even more dangerous?
One thing was certain:
And Faye was slowly but surely getting pulled deeper into his orbit — whether she was ready or not.

The chandeliers of Cristallo, the most exclusive restaurant in the city, cast a warm glow over the pristine white tablecloths. Alessia Wrenford, daughter of Richard Wrenford—CEO of Wrenford Pharmaceuticals—waited impatiently, drumming her manicured nails against her water glass. When Yemin finally arrived, her eyes widened in disbelief. He strolled in wearing faded jeans and a simple button-down shirt, completely out of place among the tuxedoed waiters and designer-clad patrons."You couldn't dress appropriately for a place like this?" Alessia hissed as he sat down across from her.Yemin shrugged. "My appearance has nothing to do with how I can help you."Alessia eyed him skeptically. "Looking at you now, I'm seriously questioning if you can help me at all." Despite her harsh words, the memory of her father praising Yemin's capabilities after the poisoning incident kept her seated."Why don't you tell me exactly what you need?" Yemin said, ignoring the menu a waiter placed before him.

The afternoon sun cast long shadows across Faye's modest apartment complex as Yemin approached the door. Twenty hours had passed since Katherine Shaw's birthday party—twenty hours that James Chen had spent in a cold jail cell contemplating his poor life choices. Yemin knocked firmly, three precise raps that echoed in the quiet hallway. The door swung open almost immediately. Faye stood there, her eyes wide with surprise and what might have been relief."Yemin! You're here," she said, stepping aside to let him in. "I was so worried when you disappeared from the party."As Yemin stepped inside, he was greeted by the unexpected sight of Victoria Shaw perched on Faye's sofa like a hawk ready to strike. Katherine stood by the window, arms crossed tightly over her chest."Well, well. The man of the hour finally arrives," Victoria said, her voice dripping with sarcasm. "How gracious of you to grace us with your presence."Yemin regarded her calmly. "I said I would come. Here I am."Victoria

When the captain finally appeared, she launched at him immediately."How DARE you arrest James at MY birthday party!" she shouted, jabbing a manicured finger at his chest.
