Katherine paced her spacious office, her designer heels clicking rhythmically against the marble floor as she scrolled through her phone. The guest list for her birthday celebration was growing impressively—CEOs, socialites, and influential figures from across the city had all confirmed their attendance. Yet her victory felt hollow after the devastating loss of the Group A contract.

"James, I want this birthday party to be more than just a celebration," she declared, setting her phone down with purpose. "I want to use it as an opportunity to destroy both Morgan and Faye."

James looked up from his laptop, a slow, menacing smile spreading across his face. "I like the way you think, darling. What did you have in mind?"

"I want to humiliate them so thoroughly that neither will ever recover—personally or professionally." Katherine's eyes gleamed with malice. "Especially that backstabbing bitch Faye. How dare she steal what was rightfully mine!"

"Speaking of which," James leaned forward, lowering his voice conspiratorially, "I have some resources we could use. People who owe me favors."

"What kind of resources?" Katherine's interest was piqued.

James ran a hand through his perfectly styled hair. "Let's just say I have connections to certain... organizations in the city. They operate outside the law, but they're extremely effective."

"You mean... gangsters?" Katherine's eyebrows shot up in surprise.

"I prefer to call them businessmen with alternative methods." James smirked. "I'm actually one of their leaders, though that's not exactly public knowledge."

Katherine studied him with newfound appreciation. "And all this time I thought you were just another corporate executive."

"There's a lot about me you don't know yet," James replied, his voice dropping to a seductive whisper. "That useless ex-husband of yours couldn't protect you if his life depended on it. But I can make problems disappear."

Katherine's lips curved into a smile as she circled her desk and perched on his lap. "Tell me more about these... solutions you can provide."

"For starters, we could ensure Faye's newly signed contract faces some unexpected complications." James traced a finger along her arm. "Perhaps a fire at her main factory? Or key staff suddenly deciding to quit? As for Morgan—" his expression darkened, "—I haven't forgotten how he had me slapped like a common criminal. No one humiliates me and walks away unscathed."

Katherine's eyes lit up with vindictive pleasure. "Make them both suffer," she whispered against his ear. "And make sure everyone at my birthday celebration witnesses their downfall."

Across town, Yemin sat in his private office at his discreet penthouse, staring thoughtfully at his phone. The confrontation with Katherine's mother had been frustrating but ultimately inconsequential. He could easily retrieve the rings using his authority, but something held him back—a desire to handle this personal matter without resorting to his position of power.

His thoughts were interrupted by his phone ringing. Seeing Faye's name on the screen sent an unexpected warmth through him.

"Hello, Faye," he answered, his voice noticeably softening.

"Hi, Morgan," Faye sounded hesitant. "I hope I'm not disturbing you."

"Not at all. How did the contract signing go?"

"It went well, though..." she paused, and Yemin could hear the discomfort in her voice. "I ran into Katherine afterward. It wasn't pleasant."

Yemin frowned. "Did she say something to you?"

"Nothing I couldn't handle," Faye replied quickly, though her tone suggested otherwise. "Actually, I was wondering if we could meet? There's something I'd like to discuss with you."

"Of course," Yemin agreed without hesitation. "When and where?"

"There's a small café near my office called The Copper Kettle. Would an hour from now work for you?"

"I'll be there," Yemin promised, already standing to get ready.

As he hung up, a small smile played on his lips. Meeting Faye again felt right somehow, as if pieces of a long-forgotten puzzle were finally coming together. Yet he needed to be cautious—he had to confirm she was truly the girl who had saved him all those years ago, the true owner of his mother's ring.

The Copper Kettle was a cozy establishment with warm lighting and the rich aroma of freshly ground coffee beans. Yemin arrived early, selecting a quiet corner table that offered both privacy and a view of the entrance.

When Faye walked in, he was struck again by her natural grace. Unlike Katherine's calculated elegance, everything about Faye seemed genuine—from her slightly nervous smile to the way she tucked a strand of hair behind her ear as she spotted him.

"Thanks for coming," she said, settling into the chair across from him.

"I'm glad you called," Yemin replied truthfully. "I've been hoping for a chance to talk with you again."

A waitress appeared to take their orders, and after she left, an awkward silence settled between them.

"So..." they both began simultaneously, then laughed, breaking the tension.

"Ladies first," Yemin gestured with a smile.

Faye fidgeted with her napkin. "I wanted to thank you properly for what happened at Group A. I still don't understand why the CEO would choose my company over Katherine's, but I suspect you had something to do with it."

Yemin watched her carefully. "You give me too much credit."

"Do I?" Faye tilted her head, studying him. "The CEO treated you with such respect. And then suddenly my struggling company gets chosen for a partnership that could save everything I've worked for." She leaned forward. "Who are you really, Morgan?"

Yemin knew he should be cautious, but something about Faye made him want to be honest. Still, years of protecting his identity couldn't be abandoned on a whim.

"Before I answer that," he said carefully, "there's something I've been wondering about." He watched her reaction closely as he continued. "Katherine mentioned something about a ring—she claimed you once owned a ring that matched one I have. Is that true?"

Faye's eyes widened in surprise. "A ring?" Her brow furrowed in concentration. "Wait... yes, I did have a unique ring many years ago. It had an unusual pattern, almost like half of a design." She looked up at him curiously. "You have one like it?"

Yemin's heart raced as hope surged through him. "Can you describe what happened to your ring?"

"It's strange you should ask," Faye replied, her expression clouding. "It disappeared during a visit from Katherine years ago. I never confronted her about it because I couldn't prove anything, but I always suspected she took it." She shook her head. "I don't understand—why are you asking about this ring?"

Yemin leaned forward, his eyes focused intently on Faye as she spoke about the ring. The background noise of the café seemed to fade away as he waited for her answer."Actually," Faye said, stirring her coffee absently, "I think Katherine mentioned something about it when she was hurling accusations at me. But I'm not sure why you're asking about it?""I'm curious," Yemin replied carefully. "She mentioned you had a ring similar to one I own."Faye's brow furrowed as she searched her memories. "I did have a special ring once. It had an unusual pattern—almost like half of a complete design. I haven't seen it in years though.""Do you remember how you got it?" Yemin asked, his heart racing."It was a gift," Faye smiled softly at the recollection. "From a young boy, actually. I was maybe eleven or twelve at the time. I found him under a bridge during a rainstorm. He looked half-starved, poor thing."Yemin's breath caught in his throat. "What did you do?""I shared my lunch with him," Faye

The guilt she'd been carrying about winning the contract that had originally been Katherine's intensified with each sob that came through the line."Katherine, please don't cry. We can talk about this," Faye said softly, glancing apologetically at Yemin who sat across from her at the café table."You stole everything from me!" Katherine's voice cracked convincingly. "And now you're with my ex-husband? How could you, Faye? I thought we were friends!""It's not like that at all," Faye insisted. "Let me explain—""If you still have any shred of decency left," Katherine interrupted, "meet me at Café Lumière in thirty minutes. Just you. We need to talk."The call ended abruptly. Faye stared at her phone, conflicted emotions washing over her face.Yemin observed her carefully, noting the shift in her demeanor. "Is everything alright?""That was Katherine," Faye explained, tu

Yemin's phone vibrated in his pocket as he was about to enter his apartment. The screen displayed an unknown number. He hesitated briefly before answering."Hello?""Mr. Ravollor," a familiar voice spoke urgently. "This is Marcus Chen."Yemin's posture straightened immediately. Marcus was Chairman Hargrove's right-hand man and one of the few people who knew his true identity."Marcus? Is everything alright?" Yemin asked, his mind already calculating possibilities."Sir, I apologize for calling from an unknown number, but it's urgent. Are you still in the city?" Marcus's voice was strained with worry."I am. What's happened?""It's Chairman Hargrove, sir. The illness—it's returned. The doctors are baffled, just like before. He's asking for you."Yemin closed his eyes momentarily. Three years ago, he had helped save the Chairman's life using an experimental treatment his research team had developed. It seemed history was repeating itself."Text me the address. I'll be there as soon as p

The upscale establishment buzzed with afternoon patrons, soft jazz playing in the background. She chose a corner table that offered some privacy for what would undoubtedly be a difficult conversation. When Katherine walked in, Faye almost didn't recognize her. Gone was the polished businesswoman with perfect makeup and imperious posture. Faye wondered, guilt gnawing at her conscience. I never meant to hurt her like this.Katherine spotted Faye and approached, her expression a careful mixture of hurt and resignation."Thank you for meeting me," Katherine said, sliding into the chair opposite Faye. Yemin followed Marcus through the mansion's ornate corridors, noting how the staff stepped aside respectfully for the right-hand man of Chairman Hargrove. Marcus's strides were purposeful, his shoulders rigid with tension and lingering anger."I cannot apologize enough for the guards' behavior, Mr. Ravollor," Marcus said, breaking the silence. "Such disrespect is unacceptable."Yemin studied the man beside him. Marcus Chen had no idea who he truly was—that Yemin actually owned the company Marcus and Chairman Hargrove managed. All Marcus knew was that Yemin had saved his boss's life years ago using unorthodox methods, and that the Chairman trusted him implicitly."It's not important," Yemin replied calmly. "What matters is Chairman Hargrove's condition."They reached an elevator, and Marcus pressed his thumb against a biometric scanner. "The Chairman's private quarters are on the top floor."As they ascended, Yemin asked, "What exactly happened? When I treated him previously, the condi

The tension in Chairman Hargrove's private suite was palpable. Medical equipment beeped steadily in the background, nurses exchanged worried glances, and the collection of prestigious doctors watched with barely concealed disdain as Marcus Chen positioned himself between Yemin and Alexander Hargrove."Alexander, please," Marcus implored, his voice low but urgent. "I know Mr. Ravollor doesn't look the part, but he saved your father's life three years ago when everyone else had given up."Alexander's jaw clenched, his expensive suit barely concealing the tension in his shoulders. "Are you out of your mind, Marcus? Look at him!" He gestured dismissively toward Yemin. "My father needs the country's top medical experts, not some street vagrant you've dragged in here."The son's resistance is unusual, Yemin thought, studying Alexander's body language. This goes beyond mere skepticism or concern.Marcus pressed on, desperation edging into his voice. "Your father specifically asked for him, A

The afternoon sun cast long shadows across the city as Faye ended her call with Katherine. Her mind was buzzing with conflicting thoughts about the birthday invitation and the seemingly sincere reconciliation attempt. While relief washed over her about mending their friendship, something about Katherine's eagerness to include Yemin in the party invitation struck her as odd.Faye's fingers hovered over Yemin's contact information. She needed to hear his voice, to thank him properly for the Morgan Group contract, and perhaps to understand more about who he truly was."Hello?" Yemin's voice came through after two rings."Yemin, it's Faye. I was wondering if we could meet? I never properly thanked you for your help with Morgan Group."There was a brief pause on the line. "I'm actually tied up at the moment," Yemin replied, his voice measured but with a hint of strain. "I'm at Chairman Hargrove's residence."Faye nearly dropped her phone. "Chairman Hargrove? The lavish bedroom of Chairman Hargrove fell into a stunned silence at Yemin's bizarre request. The medical equipment's steady beeping was the only sound for a brief moment before outrage erupted among the medical professionals."A cobra? Are you completely out of your mind?" Chairman Hargrove's son shouted, his face flushing crimson with anger. "This confirms it—you're nothing but a quack!"The assembled doctors nodded in unified agreement, their expressions ranging from disdain to outright mockery."What could you possibly need a venomous snake for?" the head doctor demanded, adjusting his gold-rimmed glasses. "We've employed every cutting-edge treatment protocol available in modern medicine. MRIs, specialized blood work, experimental treatments—all the latest medical technology!"Another doctor stepped forward, a thin woman with her hair pulled back in a severe bun. "I've practiced medicine for thirty years, and I've never heard of using snake venom to treat any condition resemblin

He strolled in wearing faded jeans and a simple button-down shirt, completely out of place among the tuxedoed waiters and designer-clad patrons."You couldn't dress appropriately for a place like this?" Alessia hissed as he sat down across from her.Yemin shrugged. "My appearance has nothing to do with how I can help you."Alessia eyed him skeptically. "Looking at you now, I'm seriously questioning if you can help me at all." Despite her harsh words, the memory of her father praising Yemin's capabilities after the poisoning incident kept her seated."Why don't you tell me exactly what you need?" Yemin said, ignoring the menu a waiter placed before him.

The afternoon sun cast long shadows across Faye's modest apartment complex as Yemin approached the door. Twenty hours had passed since Katherine Shaw's birthday party—twenty hours that James Chen had spent in a cold jail cell contemplating his poor life choices. Yemin knocked firmly, three precise raps that echoed in the quiet hallway. The door swung open almost immediately. Faye stood there, her eyes wide with surprise and what might have been relief."Yemin! You're here," she said, stepping aside to let him in. "I was so worried when you disappeared from the party."As Yemin stepped inside, he was greeted by the unexpected sight of Victoria Shaw perched on Faye's sofa like a hawk ready to strike. Katherine stood by the window, arms crossed tightly over her chest."Well, well. The man of the hour finally arrives," Victoria said, her voice dripping with sarcasm. "How gracious of you to grace us with your presence."Yemin regarded her calmly. "I said I would come. Here I am."Victoria

"They won't release him, Mother," she whispered, her voice trembling. "The chief said only Yemin can drop the charges. Yemin! That nobody!"Victoria's eyes narrowed as she studied her daughter's face. "Stop this pathetic display right now," she hissed. "You're a Shaw. Act like it.""But Mother—""No buts!" Victoria snapped, her voice low but fierce.
