Yemin stood outside the conference room, his ear pressed against the heavy oak door as he strained to catch fragments of the conversation taking place inside. The voices were muffled, but he could make out the serious tone and occasional mention of terms like "consolidation" and "final phase."

Are they trying to recruit Thomas into Sphinx? Yemin wondered, his mind racing with possibilities. Or are they planning to eliminate him now that he's proven he's not the real Alexander?

The conversation inside grew more animated, with multiple voices speaking over each other in urgent tones. Yemin was about to attempt finding another way to eavesdrop when he heard familiar footsteps approaching from down the hallway.

His blood ran cold as he recognized the measured pace of someone he had hoped never to see again - the tall man in the baseball cap who had been surveillance him for weeks. The watcher appeared around the corner, moving with the predatory grace of a trained operative.

The internet café erupted into chaos as the second gunshot shattered another window, sending glass fragments raining down on the terrified patrons who were scrambling for cover behind desks and computer stations."Stay down! Everyone stay down!" Yemin shouted over the screams and panicked voices. "Do not move toward the windows!"A young college student cowered behind a nearby computer terminal, tears streaming down her face. "What's happening? Why is someone shooting at us?""Just keep your head down and don't move!" Yemin replied, his mind analyzing the attack pattern.Professional sniper rifle, definitely high-caliber from the sound, Yemin calculated as he pressed himself against the floor. Position is elevated, probably the office building across the street. The distinctive crack of the rifle told him everything he needed to know about his attacker's equipment and likely position, but something about the attack felt wrong. This isn't Sphinx's style, he realized. They specialize in

Chapter 107Katherine stood frozen on the mansion's front steps, Yemin's warning echoing in her mind as she watched his figure disappear into the darkness. The way he had spoken those words - with such calm certainty - didn't sound like a threat at all. It sounded like someone giving her critical information about a danger she didn't understand. He wasn't trying to intimidate me, she realized with growing unease. He was actually trying to... warn me? But warn me about what? The sound of panicked voices from inside the mansion jolted her back to the immediate crisis. She rushed back through the front doors to find James sitting on the marble floor, his face pale and his breathing rapid and shallow."I can't... I can't catch my breath," James gasped, his hands clutching at his chest. "Something's wrong... something's really wrong with me!""Someone call an ambulance!" Mrs. Shaw shouted to the crowd of guests. "He needs medical attention immediately!""James, try to stay calm," Katherine

Katherine stared down at James's motionless form, her mind struggling to process what she had just witnessed. The man she had divorced for being weak and pathetic had just demonstrated a level of skill and power that seemed impossible. Her heart raced with a confusing mixture of terror and something that felt disturbingly like arousal. How is this possible? she thought, her eyes fixed on Yemin's calm expression. Where did this dangerous edge come from? And why is it so... intoxicating?Mrs. Shaw, however, felt no such conflicted emotions. Her voice rose to a shriek that echoed throughout the ballroom. "You savage! You absolute barbarian! How dare you attack an innocent man at my daughter's party!""Mother, please—" Katherine began, but Mrs. Shaw was just getting started."This is exactly what I expected from gutter trash like you! You've always been nothing but a violent thug hiding behind a pathetic facade!""Interesting theory," Yemin replied with unsettling calm, not taking his eye

Katherine stared at Yemin with a mixture of shock and confusion. In all their years of marriage and the bitter aftermath of their divorce, she had never seen this side of him. His grip on her arm was firm but controlled, and there was something dangerous in his eyes that made her suddenly aware of how little she actually knew about her ex-husband."Yemin, what's gotten into you? You're acting like a complete lunatic!""I need that card, Katherine. This isn't a game.""You're hurting my arm! And why are you so obsessed with some random businessman's card? What's so special about that stupid pattern?""What does the pattern mean to you? Why did you think to connect it to the ring?"Katherine tried to pull away from his grip, but found herself unable to break free. "I don't know what it means! That's why I'm asking you! You're the one acting like it's a matter of life and death!""Because it might be exactly that. Where is the card?""You're scaring me, Yemin. This isn't like you at all.

Two weeks later, Yemin found an elegant invitation in his mail delivery. The heavy cardstock and gold embossing proclaimed Katherine and James's housewarming celebration at their new estate, complete with dress code requirements and valet parking.Pathetic, Yemin thought, tossing the invitation into the trash without a second glance. When Katherine received no RSVP after several days, she escalated her approach. Yemin's email inbox chimed with a message that made his blood run cold."Dearest Yemin," the email began, "I noticed you haven't responded to my party invitation. How terribly rude of you! But I suppose that's to be expected from someone of your... diminished circumstances. However, I feel I should mention that if you don't attend my little gathering, I might be compelled to contact that nice gentleman who gave me his business card. You remember - the one with the interesting pattern that looked so similar to that ring you gave to poor Faye? I'm sure he'd be fascinated to know

Over the following weeks, Faye launched what could only be described as a relentless romantic campaign. Her calls came at all hours, her text messages grew increasingly creative, and she seemed to appear wherever Yemin happened to be conducting his business."Yemin, I brought you coffee," Faye announced brightly as she intercepted him outside a downtown office building. "Your favorite - black, no sugar.""Faye, you need to stop this.""Stop what? Being a good friend? I also picked up some of those pastries from the French bakery you mentioned liking.""I never mentioned liking any pastries.""Well, I thought you might like them. Everyone likes French pastries."Yemin continued walking, but Faye fell into step beside him with determined cheerfulness. "I was thinking we could catch that new action movie tonight. You know, just as friends?""No.""How about dinner then? There's this amazing Italian place that just opened—""Faye, the answer will always be no. Please stop asking.""But wh
