Morning came, and Riven woke before Elarys had to shake him awake.

He sat up in the grass, stretched, and looked out over the field. It looked different again. Piles of stone had grown taller overnight. Timber sat stacked in neat rows near the Lord Hall. Forty units moved through their rotations like they'd been doing this for months instead of two days.

[Lord Hall (Level 1)]

[Development Level: 6]

[Population: 41]

[Gold: 160]

[Grace Period: 5 Days Remaining]

Five days left. Riven didn't waste time thinking about it. Before anything else, he pulled up the Barracks interface, the same way he had every morning since arriving.

[Unit Summoning Available]

[Angel Barracks: 10/day]

[Fallen Angel Barracks: 10/day]

[Summon Cost: 1 Gold per Unit]

Day three's allotment, same as the two before it. He wasn't about to let a good habit slip just because the day's plans were already crowded with a Storehouse and a mystery fragment waiting on the flat stone by the river.

"Summon," he said.

[20 Units Summoned]

[Race: Angel (10) / Fallen Angel (10)]

[Loyalty: Absolute]

[Gold: 160 → 140]

[Population: 41 → 61]

Sixty-one now, counting himself and Elarys among the number the System tracked. The new arrivals fell in with the rotation already running near the treeline without needing more than a glance from the units who'd been there since yesterday. Riven watched long enough to be sure they'd settled, then turned to the option he'd actually been waiting to unlock since yesterday.

[Building Available: Storehouse]

[Requires: Blueprint (Owned), Wood x50, Stone x30, Gold x20]

The Barracks had come with the blueprint already attached, a small mercy he hadn't fully appreciated until now. He checked the resource totals stacked near the marker. Enough wood. Enough stone. More than enough, actually, thanks to two full days of steady gathering. Enough gold, too, even after three rounds of summoning.

"Build it," he said.

[Materials Consumed: Wood x50, Stone x30]

[Gold Spent: 20]

[Storehouse Construction Complete]

The pile of gathered stone and timber near the marker vanished in a soft pulse of light, and in its place stood a finished building, walls solid, roof already in place, as though it had simply been waiting under the ground for someone to pay the price of pulling it up. No scaffolding. No half-built frame. Just resources and gold, spent, and a Storehouse standing where an empty patch of grass had been a moment before.

Riven stared at it for a beat longer than he meant to. He'd half expected a slow process — days of hammering and stacked timber, the way construction worked back on Earth. Apparently the System didn't share that assumption. Gold and materials bought the what. Nothing about the when seemed to matter once the price was paid.

The realization settled in fast, the shape of another advantage taking hold. If buildings finished the instant he could afford them, then the only real bottleneck standing between him and a fully developed territory was resource income, not time. Gather faster, earn faster, and the rest would follow as fast as his gold could keep up.

Riven watched for a moment, satisfied, then turned to find Elarys waiting a few feet away with the wrapped blueprint fragment again.

"I think I found something," she said.

That got his attention fast. "Show me."

She unwrapped it carefully on the flat stone they'd used before. In daylight, with less mud clinging to the edges than yesterday, a faint symbol had come into view near one corner. Not carved. Burned in, like something had pressed hot metal against the surface a long time ago.

[Identification Activating...]

[Target: Weathered Blueprint Fragment]

[New Data Detected: Partial Sigil Match]

[Category Confirmed: Special Building — "Holy Fountain"]

[Restoration Requirement: Purified Water Source + Mana Crystal x1]

Riven felt something settle into place, the same satisfaction he got from solving a problem other people had walked past. A Holy Fountain. He didn't know everything a Holy Fountain could do yet, but he knew enough from what little humanity's thousand years of collected knowledge had leaked onto Earth. Healing. Debuff removal. Things that mattered a lot more once real fighting started.

"We have the water," Elarys said, nodding toward the river. "We don't have a Mana Crystal."

"Not yet," Riven said. "But now we know what we're looking for instead of guessing in the dark."

That was worth more than the crystal itself, in a way. A problem with a name attached to it was a problem that could actually be solved.

He spent the rest of the morning walking the treeline with a different kind of attention than the day before. Not just watching for threats. Watching for anything his Talent might flag as useful, the way it had flagged the iron vein and the blueprint fragment without him needing to already know what he was looking for.

It paid off faster than he expected.

[Identification Activating...]

[Target: Cave Entrance]

[Notable Resource Signature Detected: Weak Mana Trace]

A shallow cave, half-hidden behind a curtain of hanging vines near the base of a rocky slope. Nothing dramatic. But a mana trace was a mana trace, and mana traces tended to lead toward exactly the kind of resource he needed.

He took four units in with him, torches lit, Elarys close behind. The cave wasn't deep. The air inside was cooler than the forest outside, and it smelled faintly of wet stone and something else underneath it, sharp and metallic, like the static before a storm. Their torchlight caught the walls in flickering patches as they walked, and more than once Riven found himself slowing down without meaning to, letting his Talent sweep across the rock just in case it had more to show him than the single mana trace he'd already caught from outside.

Twenty meters in, the passage opened into a small chamber, damp and quiet, with a single vein of pale blue crystal running along one wall like a scar of frozen light.

[Identification Activating...]

[Target: Crystal Vein]

[Resource Identified: Mana Crystal (Low Purity)]

[Estimated Yield: 3 Units]

Low purity. Not the kind of find that would make headlines back on Earth, if Earth had headlines for this sort of thing. But it was exactly what the Holy Fountain needed, sitting in a cave nobody else had ever set foot in, on land that had belonged to nobody until two days ago.

"Extract it carefully," he told the units. "We only need one for now. Leave the rest for later."

They worked slow and steady, and within the hour, a single Mana Crystal sat in Riven's palm, humming faintly, cool to the touch despite the warmth of the cave around it.

[Item Acquired: Mana Crystal x1]

Riven closed his hand around it and felt, for the first time since arriving in this world, like the pieces were actually starting to line up on their own. A blueprint fragment. A water source. A crystal pulled from a cave his own eyes never would have found without his Talent pointing the way. None of it had come from luck this time. All of it had come from paying attention to things other Lords, if there were any nearby to compare himself to, would have walked straight past.

On the way back to camp, he checked in on the training rotation he'd set up the day before. The units not out hunting or clearing ground had spent the morning drilling in loose formation near the riverbank, working through the same simple strikes over and over under the watch of one of the Angel-line units who seemed to have a natural feel for teaching.

[Weapon Mastery Report: 12 Units Improved]

[Notable: Unit "Sera" reached Weapon Mastery Threshold — Skill Unlocked: Precise Strike]

Riven stopped walking. A skill, from training alone, with no combat EXP attached to it at all. He hadn't expected the payoff this early, and the fact that it had shown up on day two instead of day ten told him something important: the training system wasn't just a slow, background bonus. Run properly, it produced real results almost as fast as combat did. Another quiet advantage nobody had warned him about, sitting there for anyone patient enough to actually use it.

"Sera," he said, testing the name once the unit in question stepped forward, expression carefully neutral in the way all of them defaulted to. "Good work. Keep at it."

"Thank you, Lord," she said, and something in her posture eased, the same small, restrained relief he'd seen after the boar fight the day before.

They reached the Lord Hall by early afternoon, and Riven wasted no time laying the pieces out where the fragment still rested.

[Restoration Requirements Met.]

[Restore Special Building: Holy Fountain?]

"Yes," he said, and didn't hesitate.

Golden light wrapped around the fragment, the same resonance he'd felt during his own bloodline stone use, and the crumbling edges of the old blueprint began to knit themselves back together, piece by piece, faster than seemed possible for something that had sat buried for who knew how long.

[Special Building Unlocked: Holy Fountain]

[Construction Requires: Wood x20, Stone x40, Mana Crystal x1, Gold x50]

He had everything. Every single requirement, sitting right there, ready to go.

"Build it," he said again, and felt a small, private satisfaction at saying the words twice in one day for two different buildings that most new Lords, if the leaked reports back on Earth were anything to go by, wouldn't see for months.

[Materials Consumed: Wood x20, Stone x40, Mana Crystal x1]

[Gold Spent: 50]

[Holy Fountain Construction Complete]

[Development Level: 6 → 11]

[New Building Types Unlocked: Blacksmith, Training Ground]

Riven blinked at the jump. Five points in one notification, more than double what a single normal building had given him the day before. He took note of it right away. Special Buildings apparently counted for more than ordinary ones, at least when it came to Development. Another quiet advantage nobody had bothered to explain to him directly. He was starting to notice a pattern in how this world worked: the biggest gains never announced themselves loudly. They just showed up, quietly, for the people who bothered to look in the right places. And crossing Level 10 had unlocked two new building types outright, proof that Development wasn't a smooth, linear climb — it moved in steps, and every step opened a door that had been locked a moment before.

The fountain itself stood finished behind him already, pale stone catching the last of the daylight, clear water rising and falling in a slow, steady pulse from its center. Riven walked a slow circle around it, studying the carved basin the way he'd studied the blueprint fragment that had led here — trying to see past what it looked like to what it actually was.

[Identification Activating...]

[Target: Holy Fountain]

[Effect: Instantly restores full vitality on contact, regardless of wound severity. Removes ALL active debuffs — poison, curses, exhaustion, bleeding, bloodline instability, and other afflictions of any known grade.]

[Secondary Effect: Passive Regenerative Aura — all Units and Heroes within territory boundary recover minor vitality and stamina over time.]

[Usable by: Lords, Heroes, Units, and other valid living beings.]

[Cooldown per individual: None Detected]

[Rarity Assessment: Far exceeds standard Special Building output. Recommend priority protection.]

Riven read it twice, then a third time, and felt the same electric stillness he'd felt back in the Ethereal Space when the System had flagged Elarys as an anomaly. Regardless of wound severity. No cap. No cooldown. Not a minor convenience for scraped knees and bruised shoulders — a standing answer to almost anything short of outright death, sitting in the middle of his territory, available to every single person under his command for free, forever, the moment they needed it.

He thought about every leaked report he'd half-remembered from Earth, every story about Lords who'd lost units permanently to wounds that should have been survivable, every funeral held because healing had arrived an hour too late or hadn't existed at all. None of that was his problem anymore. Not with this standing at the center of his land.

"This isn't just rare," he said quietly. "This is the kind of thing that changes what a battle actually costs me."

He called over the unit who'd taken the spear-strike position during the hunt, the one still favoring her bruised shoulder even after hours of rest. "Drink from it," he said. "Tell me what you feel."

She approached carefully, cupped a handful of the pale water, and drank. For a moment nothing happened. Then her shoulders squared, the faint wince she'd been carrying all afternoon smoothing out of her posture entirely, color rising back into her face like a switch had been thrown.

"It's gone," she said, sounding almost surprised at her own voice. "All of it. I feel — " she paused, flexing the shoulder experimentally. "I feel like I haven't been hit at all."

[Debuff Removed: Minor Bruising]

[Vitality Restored: Full]

Elarys watched the exchange with an expression Riven hadn't seen from her before — something close to disbelief, worn openly for once instead of held behind careful neutrality. "I've seen Lords bleed out units over things this fountain would have fixed in a heartbeat," she said quietly. "Most Lords never touch anything close to this in their entire careers. Some die without ever hearing the name."

"Then it's a good thing I found it before I needed it," Riven said, though the words landed heavier than he meant them to. A Grace Period wasn't going to last forever, and neither was the safety that came with it. Whatever waited on the other side of those seven days — Space Beast Hordes, Dungeons, eventually Conquest War against Lords who'd spent years building armies he couldn't yet match — he'd be facing it with something almost none of them had. A place where death from wounds simply stopped being a variable he had to plan around.

That evening, as the sun dropped low and the units settled into their watch rotations for the night, a new notification bloomed in front of him without warning.

[Lord EXP Gained: 850]

[Current Level: 1 (620/1,000 EXP)]

Riven stared at the number for a long moment. Eight hundred fifty experience in a single day, more than half of what he needed to reach Level 2, and he hadn't fought a single Space Beast Horde or set foot in a Dungeon to get it. Development. Construction. A Special Building nobody else had even known existed until this afternoon. All of it converting directly into the kind of progress that, according to everything he understood about the rules, was supposed to take most new Lords far longer than two days to accumulate.

He thought about the hundred Level 99 Lords back on Earth, the ones who'd spent a thousand years combined clawing their way up an EXP curve that got steeper with every step. He wasn't naive enough to think two good days made him special compared to that kind of accumulated effort. But he also wasn't foolish enough to ignore the shape of what was happening in front of him. Most new Lords, he suspected, spent their Grace Period cautiously, waiting, unsure what to build or where to look. He'd spent his finding things nobody else had bothered to find.

"You're smiling," Elarys said, settling in beside him as the last of the daylight faded.

"Just doing the math," Riven said. "I think I'm ahead of where I'm supposed to be."

"Most Lords don't know how far ahead they are until it's too late to matter," she said quietly. "Or too late for the ones around them."

Riven turned that over in his mind, filing it next to everything else she'd said so far that sounded like a warning wrapped in a passing comment. "You keep saying things like that," he said. "Half-warnings. Pieces of a bigger picture you're not showing me yet."

She was quiet for a moment, wings settling against the grass. "I don't know the whole picture either," she said finally. "I know pieces. Things I've seen, from wherever I was before you named me. I don't fully understand them myself yet."

"But you remember them."

"Some of them." She looked at him, and for a second the gold and black in her eyes both held still at once, instead of fighting for space. "When I understand more, you'll be the first to know. I promise you that much."

It wasn't a full answer. But it was an honest one, and Riven had learned a long time ago that honest partial answers were worth more than confident lies. He didn't push further tonight. There would be time.

For now, there was a finished Storehouse standing near the Lord Hall, a Holy Fountain already drawing purified water from the ground, and a Lord Level that had climbed further in two days than he suspected most new arrivals managed in a week.

Five days left. He intended to spend every single one of them the same way he'd spent these three — looking exactly where nobody else thought to look.

"Same as last time. Nothing about yesterday's difficulty told me to play this one safer.""Nothing about yesterday told you to play it harder, either," Elarys said, falling into step beside him. Riven waited until the following morning before he touched the Hero Summoning Stone again. They found it before noon, exactly where Elarys said it would be — a tear in the world near the southern edge of the territory, close enough to the boundary that the light around it looked wrong, thin and grey against the healthy green of everything else Riven had built. He'd meant only to sit down against the base of the new tower for a moment while the repair crews worked, and the next thing he knew Elarys was crouched beside him, one hand steady on his shoulder."You've been out for twenty minutes," she said. "I let you have them.""Twenty minutes I didn't budget for." He pushed himself upright, joints stiff in a way that had nothing to do with injury and everything to do with a night that had ended in combat instead of sleep. Around him, the field told its own story — scorched grass in wide black patches, the wall's damaged section already climbing back toward full height under a dozen busy hands, and the fountain at the center of the yard still pulsing its slow, steady gold.[Wall Integrity: 88% → 94%]"Faster than I expected," Riven said, watching stone knit itself seamless under the crew's work."Development Level thirty buys you a faster repair crew," Ela
