"...Lucian!" Has this happen before, Ray whispered. "Has this happened before?"

"No..!" Lucian replied without hesitation. "Never."

"My system would never reject a command." Kael added with his voice usually low.

"Neither would mine."

Just then, another crack spread across both interface.

Golden text flashed.

"...Failed?" Lucian murmured.

"That's impossible," Kael added.

"So... Now what?" Ray asked as he looked from one window to the other

His eyes narrowed. "Wait..." He said as he reopened both quests. His gaze lingered on the tiny map currently displaying in each notification

The Hero quest marked a glowing golden dot while the villain quest marked six crimson ones. They first glance they seem unrelated. Then he zoomed in, his heart skipped a beat.

"... They're moving." Ray said.

"What?" Lucian replied as he looked through Ray's senses. "The dots. The child isn't standing still, the bandits are moving too."

Ray continued watching. Every few seconds, the golden dot changed directions. Not randomly, it was avoiding the crimson dots.

"...The Child..." Ray's eye widened. "... Is running from the bandits."

"I didn't notice..." Lucian replied.

Kael clicked his tongue and replied. "Neither did I."

"So these aren't two different quests." Ray added with a smile. "They are one.

"No!" Lucian immediately shook his head. "My system specifically separated civilian protection from enemy elimination."

"My system optimized combat efficiency." Kael immediately disagreed. "There independent

Ray folded his arms. "They're only independent because that's how your system chose to see them, can't you guys see that?"

"If I save the child but ignore the bandits, they'll attack another village," Ray said as he continued studying the map.

"...True." Lucian replied quietly.

Ray continued. "And If I kill the bandits without finding the child... She could still die."

"..Also true." Kael replied.

"So why the hell am I choosing between two Incomplete answers?"

Immediately every window shattered and thousands of glowing fragments scattered through the air before suddenly rearranging themselves into a single enormous black interface.

And sliver letters slowly began writing themselves one by one.

"...Uncalculated?" Ray frowned."What does that mean?"

"It means..." Lucian continued quietly. "The system doesn't know what you'll do next."

"Good..." Kael smiled. His words surprised everyone.

Lucian glanced toward him. "Good? Really?"

Kael nooded once. "If even the system can't predict him, neither can our enemies."

Lucian smiled at kael. "Hmm! Actually agree, but don't get used to it."

"I swear.." Ray sighed. "You two are impossible.

Just then a faint cry echoed through the forest. "... H-Help...." It was so weak Ray almost mistook it for the wind.

His expression immediately changed. "The child." Without another word, he sprinted toward the sound.

Branches whipped against his arms as he raced through the dense forest. The cries became louder and closer as he ran.

"Slow your breathing," Lucian added. "Running recklesslt will exhaust you."

"Faster!" Kael interrupted. "If the bandit catch her first, there won't be anyone left to save."

"...You're not helping."

"I want trying to, have you forgotten who I am Lucian? I'm the fucking villain I get shut done."

Just then, Ray pushed through a wall of bushes and nearly collided with a tiny figure. A little girl, no older than eight stumbled out of the undergrowth.

Her blonde hair was tangled with leaves, and her dress were torn, mud covered her bare feet.

Pure terror filled her eyes immediately she saw him..

"N..No..." She stumbled backwards. "P-Please.. I'm sorry. D-Dont take me back..."

"DOWN!" Lucian shouted before Ray could even say a single word....

He reacted instantly. Grabbing the little girl around the waist and three both of them to the ground.

*THWIP*!

An arrow screamed through the space where her head had been and eventually buried itself deep into the tree behind them.

A rough laugh echoed through the forest.

"Found the brat."

"And seems she brought us another one." Another one answered.

Footsteps approaching slow but confident.

Six armed figures emerged from the trees, surrounding the clearing with practiced ease.

Leather armor, rusted blades and Crossbows.

The leader rested a broad axe across his shoulder as he grinned.

"Well now..."

He looked from the frightened child to the young man.

"Looks like today's harvest just got bigger."

The little girl clung tightly to the back of Ray's shirt, trembling uncontrollably.

Ray slowly stood up, his hands instinctively tightened into a fist.

Ray just simply stood there for a moment. He had expected to see a guild but instead he found a city within a city. The headquarters stretched across several acres, its gleaming white towers connected by elevated walkways of enchanted crystal. Massive training arenas echoed with the clang of swords and the thunder of spells. Hunters in every imaginable armor hurried across the grounds, while robed scholars copied glowing runes onto floating parchments.Everything moved with purpose every single thing felt alive."...How many people work here?" Ray asked quietly.Aria continued walking without looking back."Within this branch?" She thought for a moment. "Close to eight thousand.""...Eight thousand?" He repeated as he stopped walking."And this is only one Sector." Kael chuckled."The Union has branches across every major city." Lucian added. "It existed long before either of us arrived.""This world just keeps getting bigger..." Ray said looking around again.Lily, who had spent mos

The crystal pulsed slowly, rhythmically even like the heartbeat of something alive."This is the crystal of Orgins?" Ray asked.Mira nodded. "It predates the Adventurer Union. The oldest records claim it was recovered shortly after the fracture." She added. "No one truly understands who created it, but it has never once given a false reading.""If you possess an authority, it will identify it," Aria added crossing her hands. "If you've awakened mana, it will measure your realm.""And if your soul carries a legacy." She paused. "It will know ."".... I don't like this," Lucian spoke quietly."....Neither do u," kael agreed.Ray frowned. "I thought you'd both be curious.""We are," Lucian answered. "But curiosity and caution often walk together."An elderly man in deep blue robes suddenly stepped forward from beside the crystal. His long silver beard reached nearly to his waist, and a monocle rested over his left eye. Despite his age, his back remained perfectly straight."Captain Valen

"Alright I think we all should just camp here tonight, it's already to late," Aria added. "first thing tomorrow morning we get on our way."Yeah great idea, I'm already too exhausted to walk anymore." Ray replied........Morning arrived quietly. The clearing looked different in daylight, broken branches deep claw marks and bandits bound together with strips of torn cloth. The little girl slept peacefully against a fallen log, exhausted after everything she'd endured.Nearby, Ray sat staring at the coin-sized black fragment that had dissolved into his body hours earlier. He still couldn't understand it, neither could Lucian nor Kael."...Any idea what happened?" he asked."...None," Lucian admitted."If that truly was a System Fragment..." Kael said, he's voice unusually thoughtful "...It shouldn't have reacted to you."Footsteps approached before anyone could continue. " I think there's been some sort of a misunderstanding here," Ray said as he slowly raised both hands."There has!" Aria replied calmly. Ray replied. The little girl suddenly stepped forward from behind him."No..no," she said spreading her tiny arms. "He saved me!"Aria's blue eyes shifted toward the child and her expression softened, slightly."...Come here child." Aria said."N-No!" The child replied, shaking her head violently. "He isn't bad!"Aria frowned. "Stockholm conditioning?"".... Seriously?!" Ray blinked Kael laughed so hard Ray almost lost his focus. "I like her, I really do like this one.""Ooh my!
