"Why am I still alive?!"

Lucan never expected that he could still see the sun after blowing himself up!

However, when he woke up, he realized that something was different about his body.

Lucan looked down, at the chubby body wrapped in white clothes stained with blood and dirt.

He quickly examined his body, then realized one thing. "This ... isn't my body ...."

Right when he realized that, Lucan felt an incredible dizziness. The wave of memories that surged into him made him furrow his brow.

Quickly, Lucan folded both legs and sat silently, taking a meditation position to receive the memories of the body's actual owner.

‘Lucan ... the original owner of this body is named ... Lucan Keagan.’

The last memory of this youngest child of the Keagan family showed the courtyard of an Academy, where a chubby apprentice student with a face full of pimples was facing three men wearing senior student clothes.

"Lucan, go look for Scarlet Herb at the peak of Mount Mistveil," said one of the senior students while sitting on a fallen tree with one hand holding a branch.

His words made Lucan Keagan lower his head nervously before him, the teenager trembling in fear. "W-why so s-suddenly, Senior Victor?"

Victor—the senior who was speaking with Lucan—was angry that his order was being questioned. The branch that had been in his hand was thrown toward Lucan.

"How dare you question my order!"

THUD

"I was insolent! Please forgive me, Senior Victor!" Lucan's knees struck the dry ground hard, he knelt and begged for forgiveness from Victor, who was still glaring at him fiercely.

Red fluid with a fishy smell seeped from his head, running down to his chin before dripping and soaking his clothes. The branch Victor had thrown hit his temple, scratching Lucan's skin.

"Ha ha ha, what an idiot! You already know Senior Victor doesn't like being contradicted, yet you still ask so many questions!"

"Just carry out his order directly, what's so difficult about it?!"

The other two senior students laughed at Lucan's miserable appearance.

Lucan's body trembled, his eyes slightly reddened. Being bullied by senior students was something he often experienced, so he knew that all he could do was ... endure.

Seeing Lucan's miserable appearance, Victor snorted while clicking his tongue. In his eyes, Lucan's appearance was very disgusting.

Lucan's large body was not accompanied by an intelligent brain. His junior fellow disciple was more skilled at consuming food than training his magical power. However, even with such weak magical talent and his low intelligence, their master still loved him so much.

Victor could not accept it!

If Lucan was indeed worthy of being loved so much, then try showing his ability!

"Enough! Just go now. I can't stand looking at your ugly face any longer!"

Victor stood up and then kicked Lucan's shoulder hard, causing the young man to fall and roll onto the ground.

"Remember, you must succeed in bringing the Scarlet Herb before me. Don't make the same mistake as last week." Victor warned Lucan.

"I-I understand, Senior Victor!" Lucan hurriedly got up, intending to leave. However, he realized one thing and gathered the courage to ask, "Will Senior accompany me to Mount Mistveil?"

Lucan's question was again met with laughter from the other senior students. One of them even bent over because he could not contain his amusement.

"Don't tell me you're afraid to go to Mount Mistveil alone." Victor narrowed his eyes in annoyance.

Lucan bit his lip tightly. He almost forgot the pain in his temple because he was too afraid imagining himself having to climb to the mountain's peak alone.

Lucan was only a low-level Mage, he had not even completely mastered first-level basic magic! Going to Mount Mistveil, which was home to many beast spirits, was the same as directly sending himself to his death.

SLAP!

Lucan's face became the target of Victor's anger again. This time, he was slapped hard enough to leave a red mark on his skin.

"How embarrassing! You have been studying at this Academy for a long time but are still afraid to climb a mountain alone?! Our master's name will be looked down upon even more by the Academy's higher-ups if they know he has such a pathetic student as you!"

Lucan held his cheek, which throbbed painfully. However, he could only remain silent while biting his lip.

Lucan knew he was embarrassing, but truly, Lucan had tried hard to train his magical power. Unfortunately, his body simply could not develop. Even children younger than him already had higher magic levels.

Knowing Victor would become even angrier if he refused, Lucan immediately said, "I-I'll go now, Senior Victor." He tried to look brave even though his voice trembled.

Victor smiled broadly upon hearing it, but that smile contained hidden cruelty. He winked at his friend standing behind Lucan.

Victor's wink was immediately understood. One of his friends threw a small pouch toward Lucan.

The pouch failed to be caught by Lucan, making Victor angry again.

Victor kicked Lucan's body until he doubled over in pain. "Quickly pick up that pouch!"

"Don't let that beast spirit repellent pouch get lost!" Victor's friend barked. "If Victor weren't so kind and concerned about your safety, I wouldn't bother preparing that thing for you!"

Another one of Victor's friends said, "Or perhaps you don't want it? If you don't want it, we'll take it bac–"

"I-I'll take it!" Lucan shouted as he crawled and grabbed the pouch. With the pouch, he could avoid the beast spirits and safely search for medicinal plants!

Lucan raised his head to thank Victor, but he was sure the man would insult and curse him again if he did not leave immediately. Most importantly, Lucan knew that although his senior often went too far, he still could not bear to endanger his life.

"I-I'm leaving first," Lucan said goodbye.

He walked away without looking back. Without realizing it, Victor grinned in satisfaction.

"Let's see if he can still come back today!" Victor said with satisfaction. "I've been sick of looking at his face for a long time!"

On the other side, one of his friends put on a worried expression. "If Master finds out ...."

Victor glared. "If no one talks, then Master won't know." He looked at Lucan's departing figure with a cruel smile. "When Master comes out of his meditation chamber, that disgusting brat will surely have become a beast spirit's meal!"

Lucan's large body made it impossible for him to move quickly. His breath came in gasps as he tried to climb the steep mountain. Sweat poured down, running down his forehead and neck, soaking his clothes.

"I should have trained my magic more diligently," Lucan complained when he finally arrived at the peak of Mount Mistveil.

Although this mountain was named Mistveil, its height was actually not that great. However, Lucan's energy was quickly depleted because he did not possess sufficient strength and body-lightening magic techniques like the other Academy students.

The peak of Mount Mistveil was overgrown with many medicinal plants. However, what Lucan was looking for this time was Scarlet Herb, which only grew in certain areas.

After three hours of searching, Lucan finally saw his target.

"There it is!" Lucan shouted excitedly. His steps were slightly stumbling from exhaustion, but he did not care.

A stretch of Scarlet Herb grew lushly beside the cliff. Lucan immediately knelt and tried to pull out as many medicinal plants as possible.

A smile spread across Lucan's acne-covered face. Obtaining this medicinal plant meant he had succeeded in proving that he was not a student who made his master ashamed.

"I'll take more! When Master comes out of his meditation, I'll make a potion that–"

CRACK!

The smile on Lucan's face froze. The sound of a branch being stepped on and broken could be heard clearly in his ears.

Lucan turned around, but there was no one.

"S-Senior Victor?" he asked nervously, hoping that whoever had just stepped on the branch was his senior who always teased him. "D-don't tell me you're joking ...."

There was no response from behind. However, he could hear a heavy snort, a sound that seemed not to have been produced by a human.

If it wasn't a human, then–

At that moment, Lucan's body froze. A lion-like beast spirit with a snake tail emerged from the bushes and stared at him fiercely, like a predator staring at its prey.

Without thinking, Lucan's legs moved first and began running fast to escape from the monster. He screamed for help after throwing the Scarlet Herb toward the beast spirit.

"Help! Somebody help me!" Lucan shouted as loudly as he could.

Lucan tried to escape, but he was not fast enough, so the beast spirit's claw managed to injure his arm.

"Ah!"

Lucan screamed, his legs still continuing to run.

Blood flowed heavily from the wound on his right arm, making Lucan's head feel light because of the amount of blood that came out.

He had exerted all his ability to run away. Unfortunately, the beast spirit was not an opponent that Lucan could match.

In a short time, he was cornered at the edge of the cliff.

"Don't, don't ...," Lucan pleaded to the monster. His body trembled violently upon seeing red flames continuously dripping from the fangs of the terrifying monster.

Lucan took one step back, but his enemy also took one step forward.

Lucan glanced to the side, hoping there was an opportunity that could allow him to escape.

However, he made a huge mistake.

When Lucan glanced away, the beast spirit instead lunged forward, making Lucan instinctively try to dodge and end up slipping and falling into the deep ravine.

"Ahhh!"

The wind whistled in Lucan's ears, and he saw the peak of the cliff growing farther away before finally–

THUD!

Lucan's body slammed hard into the bottom of the ravine. His spine broke instantly, while his skull was almost no longer recognizable.

Lucan felt excruciating pain, causing tears to well up in the corners of his eyes.

If he had a magic level equal to the other students, Lucan would not have met such a tragic fate.

His eyeballs moved as the pain and hatred slowly gathered in his chest.

He did not want to die now.

‘Why? Why must I be the one to have such a fate!?’

Lucan's blood stained the rock where he had crashed, flowing down into the river and mixing with the cold water.

As if carried by fate, a drop of Lucan's blood mixed with the river water struck the blade of a rusty sword embedded in the riverbed.

Lucan drew his final breath with difficulty before his body stiffened. Lucan's eyes widened as he stared at the sky, as if demanding justice from the gods for his miserable life.

‘I ... want revenge ....’

Lucan blinked, the tears feeling hot on his cheek. His hand moved slowly, tracing the trail of heat that could still be felt.

The memories of Lucan Keagan made Lucan's soul tremble, causing tears to fall.

The owner of the body he now inhabited had lived such a difficult, such an unfair life.

‘The world ... is indeed unfair ...,’ Lucan thought.

When wiping his eyes, the fat wrist caught Lucan's attention. This made him frown for a moment when he realized that this body only possessed mortal strength, its magic level not even reaching the first level.

If not for Lucan's strong soul, perhaps this body would not have healed and taken shape again!

Lucan smiled briefly, laughing at the fate that had made him live again in the body of a powerless boy.

However, this was not an obstacle for him, who had once reached the ninth-level Archmage.

His eyes darkened when he remembered Lucan's grudge. Followed by his own heartbreak at having been betrayed by the people closest to him.

Lucan clenched his fist. "Lucan, I will avenge all your grudges." His eyes burned as they closed tightly. At a glance, he looked like someone who was sleeping soundly while sitting.

However, in truth, Lucan was trying to increase his magical energy.

Lucan did not know how it happened. Perhaps the contract occurred when the little chicken fell onto his face. However, the contract was clearly a one-sided contract that Lucan had not agreed to, and this showed that the little chicken had devoted itself to him. With a one-sided contract, whatever happened to the little chicken would have no effect on Lucan. It was different from a contracted familiar with the consent of both parties. If the familiar was injured, then its master would also be injured. And vice versa. However, putting that fact aside, Lucan still did not want it. After all, the little chicken was so talkative and could not stop chirping!“You’re happy, aren’t you? Not much different from Gideon, who was extremely confused, Elena’s smooth forehead also furrowed because the answer sounded strange to her. As far as she remembered, the boy did not like Victor very much in the past, and often even avoided contact with him.Her chin was raised somewhat high as she observed Lucan. Her movement was somewhat awkward because before cultivating, Elena had always been more accustomed to lowering her head when speaking with her disciple.“Lucan,” she called softly. “If you want to ask to be accompanied by another disciple, just tell me. I will immediately replace him with a disciple you prefer more.”Lucan’s black eyes met Elena’s gaze with a firmness the woman had never seen before. Elena’s heart trembled because of the sharpness in Lucan’s gaze.“There is no need, Master Elena. I am already quite satisfied with Senior Victor.” Lucan respectfully bowed to Elena to express his deep gratitude.Elena sighed inwardly. Even though Lucan had repeatedly stated th

“Fully responsible … for Lucan?” An awkward laugh escaped Victor’s mouth to conceal his anger. “Why?”Elena did not laugh along. Her almond-shaped eyes met Victor’s gaze sharply. “As the third strongest disciple and at the same time the guide for the first-level disciples, naturally you are the most suitable person to accompany Lucan in his magical training.”“B-but Lucan hasn’t even reached first-level Mage, Master Elena! He will only have difficulty when he joins the other disciples.”It sounded concerned, but what Victor actually meant was … he was unwilling to take on a burden like Lucan! At this moment, Elena smiled. “Don’t worry, Lucan has already managed to clear his Mana pathways. In three days, he will be able to train with the other disciples.”Victor’s mouth opened again, agape at his master’s statement. ‘The idiot cleared his Mana pathways?’ He glanced at Lucan with an incredulous expression. ‘How is that possible?!’Before Victor could object to her words again, Elena spo

Victor walked hesitantly, as did his two friends following behind him. Their usually long strides were now deliberately slowed down to stall for time.“What are you doing? Master Elena has been waiting for a while,” Gideon reprimanded impatiently. He had already walked ahead to lead the group, but was forced to turn back again because Victor and his friends had yet to appear.“I’m not sure this is a good idea. Master Elena is still exhausted. Maybe this meeting can be postponed so she can rest first,” Victor replied.“What Senior Victor said is true. It would be better for Master Elena to rest first,” one of his followers chimed in.Gideon narrowed his eyes, observing Victor who stood anxiously. Especially when Victor used his sleeve to wipe the sweat from his forehead.“What are you actually afraid of, Victor?
