“Rune? What is that?” Wang Chen had, of course, heard of Runes before—but that was in his previous life. Were Runes in this world the same as the ones he knew back then?

“You don’t even know what a Rune is? Has this world’s knowledge of Runes declined so drastically?” Ling Zhizun snorted.

“How would I know? I’m just someone without cultivation who hasn’t even mastered a single technique,” Wang Chen said with a bitter smile. “But… are Runes some kind of ancient symbols engraved onto certain mediums to enhance their power?”

“So you do know something, huh,” Ling Zhizun said. “Yes. Simply put, Runes are special symbols that carry meaning. Runes are the language of the world. Through Runes, one can communicate with the world itself and unleash all kinds of miracles. However, using Runes requires sacrifice. For example, if you draw a Fire Rune, you can sacrifice your Qi, draw upon the power of fire through the world itself, and release it via that Rune.”

“Runes are the language of the world… that sounds extremely interesting,” Wang Chen nodded. “So there’s a Rune inside my body?”

“Yes, exactly. Someone born with a natural Rune within their body is extremely rare. People like that usually possess special abilities, or at the very least have a natural talent for creating Runes. However, as I said before, using Runes requires sacrifice. For those born with Runes in their bodies, the Rune will continuously absorb energy from its host, causing their body to weaken and preventing them from cultivating. But once the Rune has received sufficient sacrifice, it will activate, and that power will be returned to its owner.”

Ling Zhizun had been able to sense the Rune inside Wang Chen’s body earlier. That was why he had called out to him—he was intrigued by this young man.

Yet despite having a Rune within his body, Wang Chen had been regarded as trash by his family. This meant that the family either possessed no knowledge of Runes at all—or perhaps this entire world’s understanding of Rune arts had declined to the point where such things were no longer recognized.

“So that means… I’m actually a heaven-defying genius?” Wang Chen pointed at himself, his face filled with excitement.

“Heh. Don’t jump to conclusions too quickly. Not everyone born with Runes possesses extraordinary talent. It depends on the type and number of Runes. Unfortunately, I can’t examine them right now, so I don’t know how high your talent truly is.”

“At the very least, I know I’m not trash who can’t cultivate,” Wang Chen said, clenching his fist as Qiao Yue’s beautiful face appeared in his mind.

If he gained cultivation, he would take Qiao Yue away from this city and live quietly with her in a village—peaceful and free.

‘But I’m actually quite certain this boy has exceptional talent. I can sense more than one Rune within his body,’ Ling Zhizun laughed inwardly. ‘Who would’ve thought I’d find such talent in a small city like this? Even better—it means I can pass on my inheritance.’

“Very well, Wang Chen. I am a Grand Rune Master. In the past, I was the greatest Rune expert in the world. Unfortunately, due to certain circumstances, I died—but I managed to preserve the remnants of my consciousness within this ring. If you wish to become a great cultivator, then become my disciple.”

Wang Chen fell silent for a moment. He didn’t know who Ling Zhizun truly was, nor whether he was telling the truth. But one thing was certain—he needed him if he wanted to cultivate.

So…

“Wang Chen greets Master!” Wang Chen clasped his hands respectfully after placing the black ring on the table.

“Hahaha! Good, very good. That was an excellent decision. In that case, I’ll give you one piece of advice—”

Ling Zhizun suddenly fell silent, causing Wang Chen to frown in confusion.

“Master? What is it?”

“Wang Chen, you must leave this city as soon as possible.”

Ling Zhizun’s words made Wang Chen knit his brows tightly.

“What’s going on, Master? How am I supposed to flee when I don’t even know what’s happening?”

“I sense something extremely dangerous approaching—a massive beast tide that will destroy this city.”

“Beast tides happen quite often. The Wang Family will surely be able to deal with it.”

“Wang Chen, I know you have many doubts. But for now, go south. This beast tide will come from the north. Stay there at least until the sun sets. If the attack doesn’t happen, you may return.”

Wang Chen fell silent, carefully considering his words. Ling Zhizun sounded extremely serious—there was no hint of joking. If this was true, then staying here would be incredibly dangerous. He had no cultivation and would certainly die. And if he followed Ling Zhizun’s advice, there was no risk at all.

There was no harm in listening.

“Alright. But I’m taking Xiao Yue with me.”

As their names suggest, these pills are used to temper the bones and strengthen the meridians.Chu Yan, on the other hand, still hadn’t found anything that truly interested him. Although he wanted pills, he didn’t have the money, and he only had one chance to bid on an item that would be covered by Wang Chen. So, Chu Yan didn’t want to waste that opportunity on pills—he wanted something that would truly benefit him both now and in the future.“Alright, the next item

“70,000 low-grade energy crystals,” Meng Hen raised the bid again, clenching his fists.Meng Hen knew that the young man behind VIP Room No. 1 was deliberately raising the price, but there was nothing he could do. He could not threaten him with his status as a member of one of the Six Great Families of the Sun Empire. If he did, the Golden Sun Pavilion would throw him out, and that would bring serious consequences to his family.“80,000 low-grade energy crystals.” Wang Chen still sounded relaxed, as if the amount he was bidding was nothing more than a trivial matter.“90,000 low-grade energy crystals.” Meng Hen clenched his fists even tighter. He desperately wanted to storm into the person behind VIP Room No. 1.“100,000 low-grade energy crystals.” Wang Chen still did not back down. He was certain that Meng Hen had brought a large amount of money with him.The Golden Sun Pavilion had already spread the news about the mid-grade Spiritual weapon that would be auctioned across the entire

Alright, the bidding will now begin.”As soon as the bidding started, the lower-tier auction participants were just about to place their bids when suddenly a voice echoed from VIP Room No. 3.“20,000 low-grade energy crystals.”Upon hearing that, all the lower-tier participants who had been about to bid immediately gave up their intentions.“Isn’t the guest in VIP Room No. 3 from the Meng Family? They immediately doubled the price. It seems they really want the 1,000-year-old Soul Grass.”“Haven’t you heard? A few years ago, the Meng Family’s eldest son suffered a cultivation deviation while attempting to break through to the Martial Emperor realm. It severely damaged his soul, and he needs a powerful medicine that can heal the soul.”“Really? If that’s the case, it’s only natural that they desperately want the 1,000-year-old Soul Gras

After the storage ring was sold, the woman carrying the tray walked off the stage. Soon after, another woman came forward, also carrying a tray covered with a red cloth.“Alright, let us move on to the second item,” Xiao Lian said as she lifted the red cloth covering the tray. Beneath it appeared a beautiful white gem the size of a fist.“The second item is a Spiritual Gem from a Lightning Wolf King. I do not need to explain the use of this Spiritual Gem, because all of you surely already know.”The crowd grew even more excited. A Spiritual Gem from a Level 5 Spiritual Beast could be forged into a High-Grade Level 5 weapon.A High-Grade Level 5 weapon was worth at least 40,000 to 60,000 low-grade energy crystals. “Manager Su, I heard that a Level 6 weapon will be auctioned. What kind of weapon is it?” Wang Chen asked. He only knew that a mid-grade Spiritual weapon would be auctioned, but he did not know what type it was. “It is a sword,” Su Xianlin replied calmly. “The sword is called the Flame Dragon Sword. It is forged from high-grade fire-element stone and can increase the power of a fire-element user up to five times.” She had no problem revealing this information since it was not confidential. Sooner or later, Wang Chen would find out anyway. “I also heard there will be a Treasure Map. What kind of treasure map is it?” Wang Chen asked again. “As for that, Young Master Wang Chen will find out later,” Su Xianlin answered with a mysterious smile, for this one, she wanted to keep it a secret.. This only made Wang Chen even more curious. He was extremely interested in this Treasure Map. He would not let it slip away so easily, especially considering the large amount of money stored in his

The moment Wang Chen and Chu Yan stepped into the room, they were astonished by its grandeur and luxury. A delicate fragrance filled the air, calming the mind and refreshing the heart and body, making anyone feel reluctant to leave. It truly deserved to be called a VIP room. Inside, there was a long sofa with a smaller sofa on each side. In front of it stood a round table adorned with flowers, light refreshments, a teapot, and several small jade cups of exquisite craftsmanship. Beside the sofa stood a beautiful woman dressed in a white gown, wearing a sweet and polite smile. She was the attendant assigned to serve VIP guests. At the front of the room was a transparent glass partition, allowing VIP guests to watch the auction clearly. The VIP room was located on the second floor, providing the most strategic view of the auction items. “Wow… this is incredible,” Chu Yan exclaimed in amazement. It was the most luxurious room he had ever seen in his life. Wang Chen also clicked his
