Chapter 3

A week later, Junior was pacing back and forth in the parking lot, he couldn't wait for Micah to come out

"Hello Junior" a voice called out

Turning around, Junior saw it was Elise

"Hi Elise, how're you doing?" Junior asked

"I'm ok. You're here to pick up Jasmine right? She and our boss have been in an important meeting all day, hopefully, they'll be out soon" Elise said

"I hope so too" Junior said

"You seem anxious, are you ok?" Elise asked

"Yes, I'm just waiting for a really important news" Junior answered

"What's that?" Elise asked

"It's a surprise, if all goes well, you'll find out about it on monday" Junior replied

"A surprise? I can't wait. There's something I wanted to tell you, I heard that there'll be a vacant post soon, I think you should give me your resumé so I can help you submit it on time" Elise said

"I don't think that will be necessary anymore" Junior answered

"Why's that? Have you gotten a good job elsewhere?" Elise inquired

"Not yet. It's going to be a surprise" Junior answered

"Ok then, I can't wait for monday. Take care" Elise said and walked away

Few minutes later, Micah and Xavier walked into the parking lot, both had smiles on their faces

"How did it go?" Junior asked immediately they got to where he was

"It went well. Your idea worked" Micah exclaimed 

"Congratulations Junior and welcome to the team" Xavier said

Junior couldn't believe it, his idea worked, finally, there was going to be major changes in his life

"Thanks guys. So, you've spoken to your dad right? What did he say?" Junior asked Micah

"He loves you. In fact he expressed his eagerness to have such a brilliant mind like you in the company" Micah replied

"Wow, this feels like a dream" Junior said

"It's reality, you've earned it" Xavier said

"Now, we have something important we need to do" Micah said

"What's that?" Junior asked

"Shopping" Micah replied

"For who?" Junior asked

"For you of course. Your level has changed, you need to look the part" Micah responded

"But I don't have money for that" Junior said

"It's ok. Everything is going to be on me" Micah said

"You have no idea how grateful I am" Junior said

After dropping Jasmine at home, Junior met up with Micah and 30 minutes later, he found himself shopping in a very expensive boutique, Junior felt glad he trusted Micah

On monday morning, Junior dressed up in his usual clothes but kept the suit Micah had gotten for him in a bag

If he dressed up from the house, Jasmine would become suspicious and he didn't want that to happen

As usual, he and Jasmine went to MacMatthew corporation together, but this time, instead of leaving after Jasmine went into the building, he walked to the restroom

He immediately changed his clothes and walked into the building. Junior's jaw almost dropped to the floor when he saw how magnificent the building looked inside

It was as if everyone was super rich due to the expensive dresses and suits they wore, Junior felt really glad he went shopping earlier

Junior was still admiring the building when Micah walked up to him, after exchanging greetings, Micah asked Junior to follow him

As they walked towards Micah's department, Junior noticed most people greeted Micah with respect and also congratulated him

"Why're they congratulating you?" Junior asked Micah

"You'll find out soon enough. For now, let's go to the hall" Micah said and led the way

Immediately they opened the door to the hall, everyone inside screamed, "surprise !!!"

Junior felt confused, It seems they were having a little party but Micah never mentioned anything about that

He tried to ask Micah what was happening, but a group of men walked over to Micah and started congratulating him, so Junior decided to give them space

Junior was starting to feel out of place. He knew Jasmine could walk into the party at any minute and he didn't want her to see him yet

He assumed Micah would have taken him to his dad so they could talk about his employment, afterwards he would go to Jasmine and break the news to her

A couple of minutes later, Junior was really starting to get anxious, he was going to get a drink to calm his nerves when he saw Elise, he quickly walked over to her

"Hi" Junior said to her

"Hello Junior, how're you doing?" Elise asked

"I'm ok" Junior replied

"You look different. This suit looks really good on you" Elise complimented him

"Oh, thanks. By the way, I was hoping you could help me" Junior said

"With what?" Elise asked

"Do you by any chance know if Mr Michael MacMatthew is around?" Junior asked

"I don't think he will be coming in today. Is there a problem?"

"Are you sure about that?" Junior asked, he was starting to feel even more confused

"I'm positive. We were having customer related issues recently, but since they've been resolved, I heard he decided to take the week off, why're you asking about him anyways?" Elise asked

"He's supposed to be here, and by the way, why are you guys having a party?" Junior inquired

"Micah was recently promoted and this party is for him" Elise answered, Junior's questions were beginning to bother her

"Promoted? For what reason?" Junior asked

"Well…"

Elise was about explaining when a voice cut her off

"Can I have everyone's attention please?" A man who stood in the middle of the room called out with a loud voice

"As we all know, we're gathered here today to celebrate a brilliant mind. A young man whose unique idea helped restore MacMatthew corporation to its rightful position

Ladies and gentlemen, i want you guys to give a warm welcome to Micah MacMatthew" the man said and walked away

Junior couldn't believe his ears. Micah wasn't the one who came up with the idea, why was he given a promotion? 

Junior was still trying to process everything when Micah walked to the middle of the room, everyone started clapping and when they stopped, Micah started talking

"I'm really glad I can help move this company forward. And with this new privilege that has been bestowed on me, I promise to work even harder, thank you everyone" Micah said and began walking towards Xavier when Junior stopped him

"What's the meaning of this Micah? You got promoted as a result of my idea and you didn't think to tell me? What about the employment you promised me?" Junior said, he sounded really frustrated

"What nonesense are you talking about? I got promoted due to my idea" Micah responded

"You liar! You only pretended to be my friend so you could use me. I can't believe I fell for it" Junior said

"Of course you fell for it. Your wife has always said you're gullible and you just proved her right

We were never friends in college, cause you're a loser and a nobody, did you really believe someone like me can change overnight and stoop low to be friends with somebody like you?

You are even more stupid than I imagined" Micah said

"You won't get away with this. Xavier knows the truth" Junior screamed

"You're wasting your time if you think he'll help you, whose idea do you think it was to use you in the first place? It was his

And by the way, don't you ever think about submitting your resumé here again, I saw the last one you submitted and I threw it in the bin where it belongs, just like you" Micah said

Junior was furious, he started screaming bitterly at Micah, this got everyone's attention

"Junior, what're you doing here"? A voice called from behind him

Turning around, Junior saw it was Jasmine. She was standing in between her mother and father, they all looked very angry to see him there

"Jasmine, I can explain" Junior said

He proceeded to tell her everything that had happened in the past two weeks

When he was done explaining, Jasmine walked up to him and slapped him hard on the face

"How dare you lie against Micah? You knew my family and the MacMatthew's were trying to seal a deal and as usual, you just wanted to ruin it

You want all of us to be as miserable as you. After everything my family and I have done for you, how dare you repay us in this manner?" Jasmine screamed furiously at Junior

Junior started begging her to believe him, he fell to his knees and clutched onto Jasmine's legs but her mother started hitting him with her bag and hurling insults at him

Jasper Banks, Jasmine's father, immediately alerted security and ordered them to throw Junior out of the building

As Junior was being dragged outside, Jasmine called his name and he turned

"We're getting a divorce" Jasmine said
