Inside the hospital, one of the nurses who attended to Mason yesterday approached him, her worried eyes panned at his body. "Mr. Williams, are you alright?" she asked, looking at the bloodstained on Mason's clothes and the dark circles underneath his eyes.

"I'm fine," Mason replied, glancing at his body. "Though his wounds were almost healed, he couldn't deny the little sting he still felt.

"Are you sure you don't want to get that check?" She asked, hoping Mason would change his mind, but Mason shook his head.

"How's my sister?" he asked, changing the topic, and the nurse's eyes immediately lit up at his question.

"Good news," she said with a smile. "We have been trying to contact you hours ago to inform you that Helen was awake but couldn't get hold of you." the nurse replied, and Mason's eyes widened, remembering he misplaced his cellphone during his accident.

"She's awake?" he asked with a clouded eyes.

The nurse nodded with a smile. "Right now, she's sleeping without needing the oxygen mask."

Mason, who didn't waste time, rushed to Helen's room. The doctor attending to her was there with two females which Mason did not recognize.

"Doctor, I heard my sister was awake," Mason said, and the three figures turned toward him.

"Mr.Williams," the doctor called and nodded in response. "She's responding well to her treatment and is asleep now."

Mason's eyes were flooded with tears as he stared at his sister. Within a day, Helen was looking healthier compared to when he had brought her in.

"Doctor," Mason called, wiping the tears from his eyes. "I have yet to complete the down payment; all I need is more time. I promise to work hard and come up with it. J-Just, please don't stop her treatment," Mason's voice pleaded.

The doctor smiled at Mason. "You don't have to worry about the payment, Mr.Williams. I work for you," He said.

Work for me?

Mason furrowed his brow. "What do you mean, you work for me?" He asked, confused.

"Mas," a feminine voice called, and Mason turned in split seconds, sending a shock of wave down his spine. It's been more than ten years since anyone called him by that name, and the only person who did was his 'Mother!'

Mason's head snapped in the direction of the voice. His gaze landed on the woman whose throbbing hands silenced her sob with tears running down her cheek.

She was standing in elegant clothes, her body decorated with bright diamonds, and a strong aura of wealth surrounded her.

She was the same woman Mason had once called Mom. Mason staggered back at the sight before him. He couldn't believe what was happening. His mother, who he thought was dead, was standing before him. He closed his eyes and opened them, and the figure was still in his front.

"W…what is going on? What the hell is this?" Mason stammered, staring at her beautiful face and the blurry memory of his mother resurfacing.

"It's me, baby, it's mommy," Grace said, stretching her hands, but Mason shrunk away, making more tears roll down her cheek.

"T-This can't be possible!" Mason felt his lungs stretch for air. "T…They told me I can't see you anymore because you were dead!"

"I… It's not true, baby. They took you and Helen away from me. They took my babies from me." her voice cracked. Mason's tears were dropping to the floor as he looked into his mother's eyes, filled with sadness.

"What the fuck is going on today!" Mason half screamed with his finger running through his hair.

What does she mean they took you?

"You left us!" he said, remembering the pain and grief he went through when the orphanage told him he was never going to see his parents because they died in a car crash. "I prayed it wasn't true, but it was on the news."

"No baby, those people manipulated the news," she turned to Helen, who was still sleeping. "You and your sister are the best thing that ever happened to me, and those monsters took you away."

Even though Mason had a thousand questions running through his head and wanted an explanation, He just couldn't do it.

"I can't do this right now," Mason said, moving out of the room. He felt like his head was going to explode. He needed some air and space, so he left the room, ignoring the voices calling behind him.

"Mason, please don't go," he heard his mother say before he exited the room.

"Don't worry, he will come around," said a voice that Mason assumed was the other female beside his mother before exiting the room.

Mason left the hospital, wandering down the street with no particular direction. He still couldn't believe everything that was happening to him, starting from losing his job to his mother, who he was dead, turned out to be alive. He should be happy his mother was alive, but he couldn't comprehend the strange things happening to him.

"You should listen to her side of the story, Mason," a familiar voice said, and Mason turned to see Emoji floating in the air beside him.

"It's you!" Mason muttered. "Excuse me!" Mason called to a man walking down the street. He stared at Mason with furrowed brows and a frown plastered on his face at Mason's torn attire, assisted with the bloodstained.

'What does this madman want from me,' the man muttered. "I don't have any money to give you," the man said before Mason could reply.

"No, not that," Mason replied, shaking his head. "I need to ask you a question. Can you see the Emoji floating in the air?" Mason asked, pointing towards Emoji.

The man's frown deepens. "I knew you were crazy," he said and walked away, leaving Mason dumbfounded.

"I wouldn't blame him," Emoji said, and Mason averted his eyes from the man.

"What?"

"You sounded crazy yourself," Emoji chuckled. "No one can see me except you, Mason."

"There must be a scientific explanation," Mason said.

"If you still doubt It, you can check your account balance from that ATM." Emoji pointed to the machine nearby.

"I can't do that because I don't have an ATM card," Mason said, remembering he never collected his card from the bank and has always gone to this bank to make any deposit or withdrawal.

"What century do you live in, Mason," Emoji said, rolling its eyes. "Then you have to go to the bank."

Mason lay on his back, eyes fixed on the cracked white ceiling above him. The faint hum of the air conditioner blended with distant laughter from the hallway. The room was a standard dorm with bunk beds welded to the floor, metal lockers, and a study desk bolted beneath a window that overlooked the restless sea. Above him, the university’s crest had been carefully carved into the plaster, bold and proud. It took a few seconds for the realization to settle in.He knew the university had private partnerships with quiet investments scattered beyond its official campus, but he hadn’t expected this.Song Island. He swallowed slowly.Who would have thought I’d own property on Song Island? The thought curled at the edge of his lips, forming a faint grin. Ownership meant leverage. "Leverage" meant control. And control meant survival.Across the room, he could feel King’s eyes on him, curious, calculating. Mason didn’t look his way. He didn’t need to. He was used to being watched. The door sud

His eyes wandered over the familiar faces, some excited, some anxious, others already forming silent alliances. This was temporary, only a few days in the dorms before they returned to civilization.“Samule, Jude, Peter, Alec, Hopkins, and Jadin." The sound of the woman's voice jolted him from his thoughts.Across the lobby, a sharp scoff cut through the air.Jacob and his associate stood at the far corner, dressed in polished confidence that bordered on arrogance. Jacob’s frown looked permanent, as if stitched into his expression.“They want me to share a room with this lowlife?!” he spat, loud enough for

  • Temporary Dormitory

The bus finally rolled to a halt at the edge of the island’s temporary dormitory compound, and the faint scent of salt from the nearby sea drifted in through the half-open windows. Above them, the moon hung, casting a silver veil across the landscape. Uncertainty lingered through the bus, and the students stirred from their reflections on the contrast between the moonlight and the warmer glow spilling from the compound ahead. The dormitory towered above them from the distant, almost modest and welcoming. The exterior was bathed in a mixture of pale yellow and the golden shimmer from lamps fixed along the wall perimeter. The doors of the bus hissed open, and one by one, the students exited, with their luggage in their hands. Few had their backpacks slung over their shoulders; others dragged rolling suitcases that rattled over the uneven ground. The fatigue of travel lingered in their movements, but curiosity brightened their eyes as they glanced around the unfamiliar compound.“So t

  • Regulations

The sound of an incoming vehicle attracted everyone's attention, and a brief silence passed through the crowd. The students narrowed their gaze to the two coastal buses, which stopped a short distance from them. The bold letters crested on one side of the buses made the division painfully clear.Murmurs instantly rippled through the crowd the moment the realization finally settled.“What? We are using separate buses?” one of the students spat.“That’s ridiculous.”“We just landed, for goodness’ sake," another voice lamented. Some couples stood frozen, with their fingers laced together as if refusing to let go might bend the rules. Others who had made perfect vacation plans exchanged bitter looks, with annoyance sharp in their eyes. Unlike the other student, whose face wore an expression far from satisfaction, Mason remained unfazed. He didn't know why the students were still surprised at the announcement. They have been in the university for years, enough to know the rules and regula

  • Arriving At Song Island

The airplane commenced its gradual descent, gliding smoothly through a dense curtain of clouds as Song Island gradually emerged beneath them. Its breathtaking terrain was laced with pure nature, prompting a wave of gasps spread through the cabin. Everyone quickly pressed their faces to the windows, their eyes wide with awe. Their gazes drifted across the waters, sparkling under the afternoon sun to the coastline, holding several tall palm trees. They all stood in a line like vigilant sentinels with its fronds swaying gently in the breeze as if welcoming the aircraft’s arrival. A few distance from the resort at the shore, modern buildings with minimalist designs rose faintly above the greenery, hinting at the island’s developed areas. For a moment, it felt almost surreal; such an unspoiled, stunning paradise seemed too perfect to be real. One student nearly lifted out of their seat, with his eyes glued to the window with an expression of wonder, as if the island might vanish if they b

My girlfriend will be having this.”He took the tray from the attendant and placed it gently in front of Cleopatra.“Oh,” the attendant said, her gaze lingering on Cleopatra for a second before returning to Mason. “Right away, sir.”Cleopatra lifted the wine glass, took a sip, and frowned; then her eyes lit up, but she quickly replaced her expression,
