With every step Mason took, inching closer, Tobi crawled backward, shivering with fear. He could clearly see the danger lurking in Mason's eyes, which he didn't notice when his gang member was around, but now that he was at a disadvantage, everything was evident.

“Please, you can't do this!” Tobi pleaded, winking at the pain in his abdomen.

Mason, adamant about his words, scoffed with a knitted brow. “Of course, I can,” he growled in a dreadful tone, raising the bat above his head.

Tobi's eyes mirrored his movement, and he saw the iron bat descend in one swift strike, making him scream. “P…Please stop! I haven't killed anyone! I haven't committed any crimes. This was the first time; please forgive me.” Kobi broke into tears, staring at the bat that halted mid-air above his leg.

Mason was about to say something, but Kobi quickly shivered to his knees, rubbing his palms together, pleading. “I didn't want to take the deal Jacob proposed, but I needed the money,” Kobi said with tears flo

Reality was as clear as ever, yet Mason felt a thick fog of confusion clouding his mind. His eyes panned at the figure across his bed with the sheet barely covering her body. His eyes traveled from her smooth skin to the messy hair framing her face. The sight of an unfamiliar but beautiful woman sharing his space sent his heart racing with several explanations. "Who are you?!" Mason asked, his voice laced with both shock and urgency. This was the thousandth time he had uttered those words, yet the woman's response was merely a groan. She dismissively waved her finger. "Go away," she murmured, her voice filled with exhaustion and irritation.Just then, the sound of hurried footsteps reverberating down the hallway drew Mason's attention. He averted his gaze to his partially open door, which he was sure he had locked last night. Just like he predicted, the door swung open with his sister standing at the threshold.Haley, frozen at the doorway, felt her face mask with horror and disbeli

  • How is she?

“Mr. and Mrs. Jordan,” Dr. Lukeman began, his expression warm but serious, “I’m relieved to inform you that Fiona is in the clear. She experienced a temporary coma, but the good news is that her vitals are responding positively. Any time from now, she should be waking up.”As the words sank in, a collective sigh of relief escaped the couple. They directed their gaze to the other members of their family, who were now celebrating the news.“Thank you very much, Dr. Lukeman,” Mr. Jordan replied, his voice filled with gratitude as he shook the doctor's hand.“Well, I didn’t do much, but whoever adjusted the room temperature saved her life,” Dr. Lukeman answered, glancing at his watch. All eyes in the room turned toward Mason, who stood at the edge of the group.“You saved my sister, Mason!” Cleodora exclaimed, casting a grateful gaze his way.Mr. Jordan stepped forward, with his hand stretched out. "Thank you very much for saving my princess!" He muttered.“We are all just relieved she is

  • Closed Door

Mason, isolated at the end of the hallway, glanced back at the scene behind him. The hallways lingered with the Jordans and every other extended family member who was there for support. Even when Dr. Lukeman and his teams were behind closed doors and undoubtedly working hard, the weight of uncertainty pressed heavily on them.“Is she going to be okay?” Haley's voice broke through his thoughts, drawing Mason’s attention back to the phone pressed to his ear.He heaved a sigh; it was the first time he could hear his own exhaustion. “It’s too early to tell, but Dr. Lukeman is here,” he added, hoping that would give a hope of reassurance. Haley paused, allowing a brief silence. “I will inform everyone you won't be coming home tonight,” she said. Mason glanced back at Cleopatra, and as much as he wanted to be by her side, he couldn't stay, and he knew following Emoji instructions gave Fiona better chances. “No, don't. I will be on my way once things settle down here,” he replied. The hesi

  • They Are Here!

As the words echoed through the room, the sisters exchanged a quick glance and without hesitation, Cleodora reached for the control panel by the bedstand. She pressed her trembling fingers on the buttons, and a soft beep filled the space as the digital display raised the temperature. The room gradually adapted, with the air becoming more saturated with warmth.Mason returned his gaze back to Fiona, who was still unconscious, all he could do was stare at her. Though he didn't understand the reason for the emoji suggestion, he knew it was important and could be dangerous if anyone were to go against it.The Silence in the room stretches, and the figures behind shifted restlessly, with their eyes fixed on him. Even without turning around, he could feel their gaze silently urging him for an explanation or perhaps a glimmer of hope. Mason sighed, straightened his posture, and turned to meet their eyes. How could he possibly explain his decision to turn on the heat without breaking any ru

  • The Call

The words slipped into Mason's mind like a warm melody, and time itself slowed, blurring everything around him except for the figure standing in front of him. A playful grin instinctively spread across his face as he slid his hand possessively down Cleopatra's waist, drawing her closer until he could feel the heat radiating from her."You’re not trying to kiss me again, are you?" Cleopatra muttered. You're going to ruin my lip gloss, Mason,” she teased.Mason furrowed his brow, pretending her accusations were assured. Betrayed by his eyes, his gaze dropped to her lips, and before she could protest, he cut her words with his lips. The sweetness of her lip gloss mingled with the softness of her lips, creating a taste he couldn’t resist. Cleopatra melted further into his arms, and her eyes flickered in surprise when a soft moan involuntarily escaped her lips.“Wow, sunshine, was that you?” Mason teased, stroking her flushed cheek.“Y...You're hearing things, Mason,” she replied, her voi

  • He asked

The evening slowly drifted with time, with laughter and clinking of utensils lingering from the corner of the room. Mason and Cleopatra, blending with its coziness, were lost in their conversation when the double door suddenly swung open. This time, Kelly entered with a proud smile illuminating his face. In his hands was a smaller plate that held desserts. The artistry was breathtaking, and the designs were nothing they had seen.As the final course, Mason couldn't help but stare at Cleopatra, who was completely entranced by it. Her eyes sparkled with excitement, moving from one dessert to another.“Is this a new dessert?” She muttered. “I haven't seen nor tasted them before.”Mason, who could say the same for himself, averted their gaze to Kelly, who returned the attention with a smile. “Indeed, it is a new dessert I have been trying for a long time but finally got it right tonight,” he replied.Mason, who made plans with Kelly to design a new dessert just for the dinner, furrowed h
