Max stood bruised and half-limping, eyes locked on the big boss, a towering man built like a boulder, hands taped, face calm and confident. Every strike Max had landed barely scratched him. He was fast—sure—but the power difference was brutal.

Max panted, trying to hold his stance. His Brandon Lee soul-link had speed, style, precision—but not enough strength to take down a tank like this.

WHAM!

A hard right jab to Max’s face sent him staggering, blood dripping from his nose. Grimm hovered above, concerned.

“Max, you can’t win toe-to-toe—”

“I know,” Max grunted. “But I’m not giving up.”

With a yell, Max threw a series of Brandon Lee’s combo strikes—side kick, hook punch, elbow, knee, but the enemy kept up. He wasn’t just tough—he was a trained Taekwondo master.

The big boss smirked. “Impressive… but not enough.”

Realizing the fight was going nowhere, Max bolted.

The boss laughed. “Running already?”

But Max didn’t answer. He raced into the deeper part of the warehouse, zigzagging past crates and ladders.

The boss followed, slow and confident. “Nowhere to run now, kid. You’re stuck with me.”

Max turned to face him, breathing hard, but smiling. “No... you’re stuck with me. In here, I can use the full potential of Brandon Lee’s skills.”

The boss’s eyes narrowed. “So be it.”

He charged.

Max kicked a paint bucket, sending it flying toward the boss, who instinctively blocked. When he lowered his arms—Max was right there.

Consecutive Punches – Activated!

The strikes landed—this time they hurt.

The boss looked down to see a steel wristwatch strapped to Max’s fist like brass knuckles.

“You’re using your accessories as weapons?” the boss growled.

“I’m resourceful,” Max smirked.

The boss roared and threw a punch—but Max flung a handful of sand into his eyes.

“ARGH!”

He stumbled back, blinded.

Clank!

He heard something.

“Where are you?!”

Clang. Clatter. Thud. Buckets falling.

He spun around—noise echoing from everywhere.

By the time he could see again, a giant metal bucket slammed over his head, blinding him.

Max leapt forward.

Using Brandon Lee’s Spinning Kick

He struck the bucket full-force, denting it around the man’s skull.

Dazed, the boss ripped it off—only to see Max midair, his foot crackling with blue lightning.

Skill Activated: Falcon Drop!

BOOOOM!

The boss collapsed, groaning.

Max wobbled, exhausted. “Finally…”

He stumbled toward the girl tied up in the corner—but behind him, the boss stirred.

A memory flashed in the man’s head: a Taekwondo match years ago. He’d lost. The winner had offered a hand. He’d rejected it… and beat the guy until he got disqualified.

“Winning means nothing to me… if I lose control,” he muttered.

He roared, stood up, and grabbed Max’s arm mid-step. Then he launched Max upward—

Taekwondo Slam Attempt!

Max flipped midair, eyes narrowing. “I told you. Full potential.”

He leapt off the wall, reversed their positions, and slammed the boss against the steel beam.

Brandon Lee’s One-Inch Strike – Critical Hit Activated!

BOOM.

Lightning erupted from Max’s palm. The boss dropped instantly.

The girl stirred. Her eyes opened.

And the first thing she saw… was Max standing with half his face swollen, barely able to keep his balance.

“W-what happened?” she asked.

Max sighed. “Long story short… you were kidnapped. I saved you. You're welcome.”

She blinked. “You're the one… with two souls, aren’t you?”

Max scratched the back of his head. “Uh… maybe. Also, I used your phone to call the police. They’ll be here soon.”

He tried to limp away. “Anyway, I’m leaving now—”

“Wait,” she said, catching up. “You’re hurt. Let me help you—”

Max waved her off. “Don’t worry. I’ll heal by tomorrow.”

[System Reward Unlocked: Passive Skill – Regenerative Rest]

"As long as the user rests, their healing speed drastically increases."

She nodded slowly. “My name’s Lois. Lois Conor.”

Max looked back with a smile. “Maximus… but you can call me Max.”

They parted ways.

At the Conor Estate…

Lois was greeted by her father, who hugged her tight. “My daughter… thank God!”

Lois smiled faintly. “There’s something I need to tell you. About what happened… and who saved me.”

They entered the house, doors closing behind them.

Far off, in a dark alley across the street…

A man watched with binoculars, speaking into a comm.

“Target recovered. Mission failed.”

A woman’s voice crackled on the other end. “Find out what went wrong… and who interfered.”

Back in Max’s room…

He lay unconscious, arms and legs sprawled, green healing aura gently glowing from his bandages.

A bubble floated out of his nose as he snored.

Grimm, floating above, grinned. “Sleep well, warrior. You earned it.”

The rain came heavy, turning the street into rivers of broken light. Streetlamps flickered, their glow hazy through the downpour. The night carried a silence that felt alive, broken only by the steady rhythm of water hitting asphalt.Max stood in the middle of the road, soaked, fists clenched so hard his nails dug into his palms. His swollen eye still burned from the last fight, but his gaze never left the figure across from him.Isaac Holt. The older boy strolled casually beneath the cover of a black umbrella held by one of his bodyguards, his pristine shoes untouched by the water splashing around them. He looked less like a fighter and more like a king surveying a subject.“Give me the flash,” Max demanded, his voice cutting through the storm. “The footage of my mom.”Isaac tilted his head, lips curling into a smirk. “Flash? Ah… so you know.” He chuckled low, the sound mixing with the patter of rain. “But, Max… what makes you think you can take it from me?”The umbrella shifted slig

The cemetery was quiet, the kind of silence that presses against the skin like a weight. Marble headstones stood like sentinels, some polished and new, others cracked with time.Max stood before one in particular, his head lowered, hands tucked into his pockets. The engraved letters—Sarah King—caught the last light of the evening sun. His mother’s name. The flowers he brought were simple, not expensive—wild daisies and lilies tied with a cheap ribbon. Yet when he placed them down, they looked right. His fingers lingered on the stone, tracing her name like he was afraid to let go.“Hey, Mom,” he muttered under his breath. His voice was rough, carrying a tiredness that felt older than him. “Things have been… hard. You’d probably scold me for the fights, for skipping school, for everything I’ve done. But—” He swallowed hard. “I’m trying. I swear I’m trying.”A shuffle of footsteps interrupted him. Max turned. It was Peter. The older boy’s presence was unexpected, his school uniform messy

  • Chapter 27: The Weight of Justice

  • Chapter 26: Five Minutes

The wind felt cold that afternoon, brushing across Max’s tired face as he walked beside Lois and May. His body was still recovering from the fight with Kael, but curiosity—and maybe a hint of responsibility—kept his feet moving. He glanced at Lois, brow furrowed. “So tell me again—when you spoke to the spirit of May’s sister… did you ask her how she died?”Lois shook her head. “Some spirits don’t remember. They hold onto pain, regret, anger—but not the details. Sometimes it’s just… fragments. Enough to tug them to the living.”Max exhaled, scratching the back of his neck. “That’s convenient.”Lois gave him a side-eye. “It’s not convenient, Max. It’s tragic.”He didn’t argue. Instead, he looked to May, who had been hugging her arms tightly the whole time. “When was the last time you saw her?”May swallowed hard, her voice fragile but steady. “Three weeks ago. She said she was going to meet a friend from school… but she never came home.”The weight in her tone made Max slow his steps. H

  • Chapter 25: The Girl Named May

The world felt heavy when Max opened his eyes. His body sank into the mattress as if gravity itself had doubled overnight. Every muscle ached, his ribs throbbed, and his head buzzed with the lingering echoes of Kael’s blows. The system notification about the bronze keys was still faintly burned into his mind, a reminder of the chaos from last night.“Don’t even think about moving,” Grimm’s voice cut into the silence of his room. It wasn’t angry—it was practical, firm. “Your body’s screaming for rest. For once, listen to it.”Max groaned and turned his face into the pillow. “For once, I think I will. Forget school. Forget everything. Just… sleep.”But the universe didn’t care about rest. His phone buzzed on the nightstand. Once. Twice. By the third vibration, Grimm muttered, “Ignore it.”Max reached over anyway, fumbling for the phone.
