Chapter 1

Nikolai Ivanov

Chapter one

The evening moon was shining bright in the sky, casting a nice glow over the gorgeous Ivanov estate. Nikolai’s mansion, it was literally the most beautiful and luxurious house in the estate. It was an architectural masterpiece, a blend of modern design and timeless elegance,. The marble exterior, gave the mansion even more quality.

Inside, the house was a picture of luxury and order, every piece of furniture neatly placed, every surface spotless. In the master bedroom, steam came out of the bathroom as the door creaked open.

Nikolai Ivanov emerged, He was one of the sons of billionaire businessman dmitri Ivanov

When he was just 22 years old he took over his father’s company (Ivanov Industries) and has been the CEO ever since

His twin brother Mikhail took over the position of COO and they both have been running the company. his chiseled frame wrapped in a white towel. Droplets of water clung to his skin. His brown hair, damp from the shower, was tousled as he rubbed a smaller towel over his head.

Despite the calm evening, Nikolai’s mind was far from at ease. As he made his way toward the large king-sized bed, a sudden beep from his phone broke the quiet. He reached for it, his brows knitting together as he read the message on the screen.

“Babe, I’m in trouble, and I need your help.”

It was from Olivia, his fiancée. They had been together for two years, and he had recently proposed to her in a grand gesture that had made headlines across the city. But this message was unlike anything he’d ever received from her. A knot of worry formed in his chest.

His fingers flew across the screen as he replied, “Talk to me.”

Moments later, her response came through. “I think I might have killed someone.”

Nikolai froze, his phone still in his hand. For a second, he thought it was a joke. A cruel, misplaced attempt at humor. He sent back a smirking emoji with a reply: “You’re kidding, right?”

The reply came almost instantly. “No, I’m not. I’m on my way to your place. I’ll explain everything when I get there.”

The phone slipped from his hands onto the bed. He stared at it, his mind reeling. His fiancée, the woman he was set to spend the rest of his life with, had just admitted to committing a crime.

Rubbing a hand through his hair, he paced the room. He had seen Olivia angry, frustrated, even emotional before, but this...this was something else entirely. What could have driven her to such an extreme?

Realizing he needed to prepare for what was coming, he hurried to the closet, throwing on an elegant blue jalamia. He descended the grand staircase to the living room.

The staff, sensing his urgency, scattered at his orders to vacate the premises for the evening. Alone now, he dialed his twin brother, Mikhail.

“Come on, pick up,” Nikolai muttered under his breath as the call went straight to voicemail. He tried again, only to be met with the same result.

“Fuck!” he hissed, slamming the phone onto the polished coffee table.

Minutes later, the sound of the front door opening drew his attention. He turned to see Olivia stepping inside, her face pale and her usually bright eyes clouded with fear. Her blonde hair fell messily over her shoulders, and her hands trembled as she clutched her purse.

Nikolai rushed to her, relief momentarily washing over him as he confirmed she was unharmed. “Tell me everything,” he demanded, his voice steady but firm.

Olivia hesitated, her lips shaking as she tried to speak. “I...I didn’t see him. He just popped out of nowhere,” she stammered, her voice barely above a whisper.

Nikolai took her shaking hands in his and led her to the couch. “Relax,” he said, his tone softening. “Start from the beginning.”

She nodded, taking a deep, shaky breath. “I was driving back from the mall. I...I wasn’t paying full attention to the road. He must have been crossing, and...” She choked back a sob. “And I hit him.”

Nikolai closed his eyes for a moment, his jaw tightening. This was worse than he had imagined. “Did you call an ambulance?” he asked, though he already suspected the answer.

“No,” Olivia admitted, tears streaming down her face. “I panicked. I drove off.”

For a moment, he said nothing, his mind racing through the implications of her actions. Finally, he pulled her into an embrace. “It’s going to be okay,” he murmured, even as his own doubts lingered.

He knew the gravity of the situation. A hit-and-run could ruin lives—not just the victim’s but Olivia’s as well. And by extension, his. As the heir to Ivanov Industries, his reputation was everything. Scandals like this didn’t just fade away. But he also knew he couldn’t abandon her.

“I don’t want to go to jail.” Olivia said.

“You wouldn’t, I’ll take care of this,” he promised, his voice resolute. “You just need to trust me.”

Olivia nodded against his chest, her sobs subsiding. “Thank you,” she whispered.

“Come on,” he said, guiding her upstairs. “You need rest.”

Once she was asleep, Nikolai lay awake, staring at the ceiling. His mind was a storm of thoughts and plans. He would have to act fast—pull strings, make calls, and ensure that no trace of the incident remained.

The morning came too soon, the sound of the alarm breaking the stillness of the room. Nikolai silenced it with a groan, sitting up and rubbing his face. Beside him, Olivia stirred but didn’t wake.

After a quick shower, he dressed in a tailored suit, the fabric hugging his frame perfectly. Adjusting his cufflinks, he glanced at Olivia. “Babe, wake up. We’re going to be late.”

She groaned, turning over to face him. “You’re the CEO,” she mumbled. “You can’t be late.”

He smirked. “You know what I mean. Wear something nice—I’ll be waiting downstairs.”

As he descended, the household staff greeted him with respectful bows. On the dining table, a variety of different dishes waited for him there, but he barely touched it, his appetite overshadowed by the weight of the day ahead.

“Olivia, let’s go!” he called out, his voice echoing through the grand halls.

Minutes later, she appeared, dressed impeccably as always. Together, they stepped outside, where a sleek black car awaited.

“Good morning, sir,” the driver greeted, opening the door.

Nikolai nodded, climbing in with Olivia following close behind.

The drive to Ivanov Industries was quiet, both of them lost in their thoughts. The towering skyscraper came into view, its glass facade gleaming in the morning sun. It was a symbol of power, wealth, and control—a stark contrast to the chaos that loomed over their lives.

As they stepped inside, employees greeted them with bows and murmured salutations. Nikolai walked with purpose, his presence commanding attention. Olivia clung to his arm, her grip tighter than usual.

But just as they reached the elevators, three men in suits intercepted them. Their badges glinted under the fluorescent lights, and the firearms at their sides left no doubt about their authority.

“Good day, Mr. Ivanov,” one of them said, his tone professional but firm. “We’re with the State PD.”

Nikolai’s heart sank as he stared at their badge for a while. He knew the police were eventually going to come knocking but he didn’t expect them to come this early, he barely had enough time to make some calls and Bury the case from last night.

Nikolai could feel Olivia gripping tightly on to his arm as she tries to keep her composure

“How can I help you?” he asked, his voice steady despite the turmoil within.

The officer’s next words were like a punch to the gut. “You’re under arrest for the murder of Jose Williams.”
