“Zenith Corporation is currently looking for a strategic partner.”

Kai’s voice cut through the shocked silence, calm and matter-of-fact. He kept his foot planted firmly on Ethan’s chest, preventing the man from rising.

“If the Hartley family could secure that partnership slot, the future returns would be immeasurable. Far more than enough to cover this debt and elevate your business to an entirely different level.”

Ethan let out a harsh, bitter laugh from his position on the floor. “Zenith Corporation? Are you insane? Do you have any idea how many companies are competing for—”

Kai’s foot pressed down harder. Not enough to injure, but enough to cut off Ethan’s words with a grunt of pain. “I don’t remember asking for your opinion.”

“You’re delusional,” Ethan managed to gasp out. “Living off my cousin and talking like you have connections to Vincent Shaw himself. Pathetic.”

This time Kai didn’t just press—he delivered a sharp kick to Ethan’s side that sent the man rolling across the floo

Vincent Shaw’s phone buzzed against the glass table, interrupting Lila mid-sentence. She froze with her portfolio half-open, watching as he glanced at the screen and his expression shifted, something knowing, almost mischievous flickering across his features.“Excuse me for just a moment,” Vincent said, already swiping to answer. “This won’t take long.”Lila nodded and reached for her coffee cup, grateful for the break. Her heart was still hammering from the adrenaline of her improvised Romeo and Juliet performance. At least he seems interested. That’s something. Just keep it together.Vincent’s voice was warm, almost playful as he spoke into the phone. “Yes, I’m aware… No, it’s going quite well actually… Don’t worry, I’ll make it quick. You know me, efficient as always.” He chuckled at something the other person said, then added with unmistakable amusement, “I promise. You have my word.”Who calls a CEO in the middle of a negotiation? Lila wondered, taking a careful sip of coffee. Mu

  • Poor Romeo

The Zenith Corporation lobby was all glass and polished marble, the kind of space designed to make visitors feel small. Lila’s heels clicked against the floor with each step, as her stomach churned with nerves. This is insane, she thought, stealing a glance at Kai walking beside her. He acts like he owns the place, but if this falls apart—if Vincent Shaw laughs us out of here, Grandmother will destroy him. And probably me too for bringing him.A woman behind the reception desk looked up as they approached. Her eyes swept past Lila and landed on Kai, and suddenly her posture changed completely. She stood quickly, smoothing her blazer, and bowed her head respectfully.“Welcome to Zenith Corporation,” she said, her voice almost reverent.Wait, what? Before Lila could process that, a man in a crisp suit emerged from a side corridor. The moment he spotted Kai, he stopped dead. His face lit up with recognition, and he immediately bowed, approaching quickly with his mouth already opening. “S

  • The Debt Collector’s Daughter

“He’s my husband.” Lila’s voice cut through the tension. She stepped closer to Kai, her chin lifted in defiance even as her heart hammered against her ribs.Ethan’s face went slack with shock. His mouth opened and closed twice before any sound came out. “Your… what?”“You heard me.”“But—” Ethan’s eyes darted between them, his mind clearly racing. “When did you—how—” Then something shifted in his expression, panic replacing confusion. “No. No, this can’t be happening.”He whirled on his mother, on his grandmother, on anyone who would meet his eyes. “Who allowed this? Who gave permission for her to get married?” His voice climbed toward hysteria. “Without my approval—the eldest grandson’s approval, on what grounds did any of you let her marry anyone?”Victoria moved toward her son, hands raised in a placating gesture. “Ethan, please calm down—”“Calm down?” He laughed, a bitter sound. “Do you have any idea what you’ve done? I had everything arranged! Everything! The debt would have bee

  • The Favorite Grandson

The study doors were already open when Lila and Kai arrived, voices spilling out into the hallway. Lila recognized her grandmother’s sharp tone immediately—the one that could flay skin from bone when she was truly angry.“Explain yourself, Ethan! Explain to me how you could be so monumentally stupid!”Lila paused at the entrance, Kai beside her. Inside, Ethan stood with his arms crossed defensively, his expensive suit wrinkled and his hair disheveled. He looked like he’d aged five years since she’d last seen him two weeks ago. Grandmother Eleanor sat rigid in the high-backed chair near the grandfather’s desk, her face flushed with fury.“Gambling,” Eleanor continued, her voice climbing. “Gambling! And not just pocket money, not just a few thousand here and there. You sold off the companies. The branch companies your grandfather entrusted to you. Do you have any idea what you’ve done? What exactly have you done? Have you been gambling? How much debt do you still owe?”Ethan’s jaw tight

  • Threshold

“Come upstairs with me.”Lila didn’t wait for an answer, already heading toward the staircase. After a moment’s hesitation, Kai followed. The silence between them felt tense, but Lila broke it as they climbed, her voice taking on the practiced tone she used for business presentations.“You should understand the family situation if Grandfather’s going to drag you into company affairs.” She kept her eyes forward, one hand trailing along the polished banister. “He stepped down from active management years ago. Officially retired. My father and his two brothers—my uncles—they’re all shareholders, but none of them actually work. They just collect dividends and spend it on whatever catches their fancy that week.”Kai made a small sound that might have been acknowledgment. Lila continued.“In my generation, there’s my male cousin Ethan—you haven’t met him yet, thankfullyand my female cousin who runs another branch. I handle Elysian Gems, the jewelry division.” A note of pride crept into her
