“You are cheating on me with Gideon? Come on Camilla, tell me this isn't true please!” Ethan begged as he walked closer to where Camilla was standing. With trembling hands, he clutched her shoulders and stared directly into her eyes.

“Get off me, Ethan!” She pushed him away with her face etched with nothing but disgust. She just couldn't endure seeing him stand closer to her for that long. He reeked of sweat and his clothes were dirty.

To her, Ethan was now an illness, he was now someone to avoid like a pandemic. She didn't want to have anything to do with him and she didn't feel remorseful for what she had done to him.

“I know this is a joke, Camilla! You can't fall in love with him right? You love just me and me alone! You can't love someone who bullied me in school, right?” Ethan was going to walk closer to her again but then, Gideon stepped in.

“Why don't you stay away from my princess, Ethan? Just leave!” Gideon sounded but Ethan didn't listen, he was still heartbroken and no one could command a heartbroken man.

“So your eyes have always been on her? Was that why you bullied me till today?” Ethan scoffed as he tried his best to hold back the tears that were threatening to roll down from his eyes.

“Oh shut it, Ethan! Shut the hell up!” Camilla barked as she yelled at the top of her lungs, she wasn't enjoying the uproar Ethan was bringing in because of her.

“Don't do this to yourself, Camilla! We vowed to stay together! We vowed to be each other's helpmate! What does he have that I don't, Camilla? Please don't leave me!” He begged on, his focus placed on Camilla who immediately snickered as she gazed at him.

“What Gideon has?” She turned to look at Gideon and slowly, she walked closer to him and he didn't hesitate to wrap his arms around her waist. Gideon kissed her on her lips and she was definitely enjoying it.

“Gideon has a lot, Ethan! Unlike a shameless fool like you! Unlike a broke ass like you who can't feed more than a church rat! Gideon is rich! Gideon has a company in his name as it stands and guess what, we are getting married soon!” The second she made such a statement, Ethan froze right in his tracks, his eyes widened with shock and disbelief.

“Ma… married? Tell me you are joking right now, Camilla!” He stuttered, his eyes quivering countless moments as he wished that he had heard wrongly.

“Do I look like a jester to you? Come on, Ethan! You are miserably broke! You are fucking broke! Just a construction site worker that barely gets a call from his boss! You're nothing but a worthless, poverty-stricken soul, doomed to a life of struggle and hardship! You are poverty itself!" she declared through her gritted teeth.

Ethan's heart dropped at the words his own girlfriend had said to him. He made sure he had supported her, he made sure he provided all that she needed but here she was, humiliating and mocking him.

He immediately ran his fingers through his hair as he forced a laughter to exit his lips. He shook his head, still not believing them.

"Come on, Camilla, let's leave this place and escape from this bully!" Ethan's voice was filled with urgency as he reached for Camilla's hand, his grip firm and determined.

With a swift motion, he attempted to pull her away from the chaotic scene unfolding around them, away from the toxicity of Gideon’s sight. But before they could make their escape, Ethan was abruptly halted.

In an instant, his focus shifted, his attention diverted towards Gideon who had intervened. With lightning speed, he seized Ethan's arm, forcing him to release his grip on Camilla.

Then, without hesitation, Gideon delivered a powerful blow to Ethan's face, the clash sending him crashing to the ground with a resounding thud.

"She belongs to me, Gideon!" Ethan's voice rang out defiantly as he struggled to rise to his feet, his face contorted with fear.

"You're insane, Ethan! Get out of here before I make you regret ever crossing her!" Gideon's voice dripped with disdain as he stood over Ethan, his posture radiating strength and authority.

Camilla's eyes blazed with fury as she watched the argument unfold before her.

"I am nobody's possession, Ethan! How dare you lay claim to me like some cheap object! Get out of my sight, you insignificant worm! I can't be married to someone lesser than an ant!" Her words were laced with venom as she spat them out, her disgust and anger palpable.

"After everything I've sacrificed for you, Camilla, is this really the path you want to take?" Ethan's voice trembled as he spoke, the pain from Gideon's blow still throbbing in his cheek.

"Sacrificed? Don't make me laugh, Ethan. What have you really done for me?" Camilla's tone was sharp, her eyes narrowing with disdain.

"Buying me burgers meant for beggars or passing off cheap metal as gold; do you call that something?"

"I gave up my opportunity for your father, Camilla! I handed over my proposal to him because you begged me to. Now he's in that company because of me! Isn't that worth something?" Ethan pleaded, his mind racing to justify his actions.

"Your proposal didn't secure him the job, Ethan! Stop lying to yourself!" Camilla's words cut through the air like a knife, her frustration boiling over.

"Gideon helped and we are getting married! There's nothing you can do about it. Now, leave! You sicken me." With a swift shove, Camilla pushed Ethan away, causing him to stagger backward, his world spinning with rejection and despair.

Just then, Camilla and Gideon turned around, ready to walk back into their room but Ethan couldn't take his head off her, he still loved her, he still wanted her as she was his only friend.

“Please, Camilla…. I know I haven't given you anything…. But please don't leave me! My mother is dying and you are the only one I have. Please!” He begged, getting their attention.

“And how is that my business if she dies? Last I checked, she's old enough to die so let her die! After all, she's just a liability!” Camilla said rudely and Ethan couldn't help but freeze for a second.

"What?!" Ethan's voice cracked with anguish, the tears welling up in his eyes multiplying tenfold. His heart felt like it was being torn apart, shattered into a million pieces as it crumbled to the ground.

"You don't mean what you said, do you?" Ethan's voice trembled, his eyes reddened from tears and hurt. Despite the pain, he felt a flicker of hope, a desperate longing for Camilla to take back her words. He took a hesitant step towards her, his heart pleading for reconciliation.

But before he could reach her, Gideon intervened once more, his patience worn thin by Ethan's persistence and ignorance.

Without a second warning, Gideon walked closer to Ethan and with fury coursing through his veins, he pushed him out of the house and threw him to the ground.

“Never show yourself here again, you beggar!” He slammed the door to his face without thinking twice.

Ethan was left in pain and regrets at this moment. He had also forgotten the money he came to Camilla to ask or beg for.

Just as he was lost in his emotions, his phone vibrated in his pocket and he picked it up. The second he placed it on his ear, he heard the most frightening statement ever.

“Hurry, Ethan... something has happened to your mother!" The voice on the other end was filled with urgency and dread, sending a chill down Ethan's spine.

In an instant, his heart lurched with fear, his mind consumed by a whirlwind of terrifying cases.

The memory of that night still lingered, but the sense of triumph overpowered the fear. So far, there had been no signs that any of them would come after him.
