Chapter 5
Author: Gu Lingfei
With his game face on, Zachary said, “Back to the meeting.”

Sitting nearest to Zachary was his cousin, Callum. Among the cousins within the same age range as Zachary, Callum ranked second.

Callum drew close and whispered, “Zack, I overheard your conversation with Nana. Did you really marry that Ser- girl?”

Zachary shot him a glare.

Scratching his nose, Callum straightened his back and ended the probing.

Even so, Callum had nothing but sympathy for Zachary.

There was no need for the York boys to secure social and financial standing through marriage, but Zack and his new bride were not a match in every single way. Poor Zack. He merely married the girl because Nana took a liking to her.

Once again, Callum offered Zachary his deepest sympathy through his thoughts.

Thank goodness Callum was not the oldest in the family. Otherwise, he would have to step up to the plate and marry Nana’s lifesaver.

Unaware of all that, Serenity got the location details and was busy dragging her suitcase to get to her new home.

She opened the door only to step into a spacious house. The place was bigger and more decked out than her sister’s house.

Putting down her suitcase, Serenity started by looking around the place. This was her home from now on.

It had two living areas, four bedrooms, one kitchen, two bathrooms, and two balconies. Each space was broad and wide. Serenity estimated the entire house to be at least two thousand square feet.

The place was barely furnished as there was only a sofa set with a coffee table, and a wine chiller in the living room. Two out of four bedrooms were equipped with a bed and wardrobe while the other two were empty.

The master bedroom had en-suite facilities, complete with a walk-in closet, study, and bathroom. Despite the divided space, the master bedroom remained huge like the living hall.

This must be Zachary’s space.

Serenity chose to live in the other room with a bed. The sunlight that came from the balcony brightened up the room. There was a room in between the master bedroom and the bedroom Serenity chose. This way, the newlyweds could enjoy their personal space.

Although they were married in the eyes of the law, Serenity would not propose spending time as a married couple unless Zachary asked for it.

After dragging her suitcase to the bedroom, Serenity went into the kitchen.

The kitchen was squeaky clean without kitchenware in sight. Both balconies were also bare but gave a roomy feeling due to the vast space. Serenity intended to spruce up the balcony with some plants and a swing. Nothing beat reading a book and taking in the botanic view on a swing during her free time.

It appeared Zachary was rarely home for dinner.

Now that she was occupying the space, home-cooked meals were a must. Serenity started with the kitchen by purchasing kitchen utensils online. As for plants on the balcony and other furniture, she wanted to get Zachary’s take on it when he got home from work.

It was his house after all while she was simply crashing here.

After placing an order on kitchen tools, Serenity looked at the time and needed to return to the shop.

Picking up the keys, she grabbed her phone and rushed down the stairs.

Serenity made it back to the shop in time for the afterschool rush.

Her best friend, Jasmine, inquired out of concern. “What were you up to in the morning, Seren?”

“My sister and brother-in-law have been in constant argument because of me. I thought about it and decided to move out.” Serenity shrugged. “So I moved out this morning.”

Her best friend’s brother-in-law was something else. Jasmine sighed. “Men love to tell women that they would take care of them, but when it comes down to it, they’re the ones nagging and finding faults. After marriage, we, women, have to put family above all while grinning through misunderstandings. It’s so unfair. I think your sister should find a job! Women must always be financially independent so we have a say in the household.”

While speaking, Jasmine suddenly furrowed her brows and gave Serenity a confused look. “I can’t believe your sister let you move out.”

“I got married.”

“Oh… What? You got married? You don’t even have a boyfriend. Who did you marry?” Jasmine’s mindless nodding was ensued with shock as she stared at Serenity wide-eyed. Her voice went high-pitch too.

Knowing that she could not keep the news from Jasmine, Serenity came clean about the whole thing.

Jasmine glared at Serenity for a while before poking the latter’s forehead. “I don’t know where you find the guts to marry someone you met for the first time. You could’ve stayed with me if you couldn’t find a place. I have extra rooms at my place. You could’ve also picked my cousin if you were looking for a husband.”

Luke said, “Serenity’s still Sonny’s aunt. Since we knew she had given birth, it was only right that we visit, regardless of whether they welcomed us or not.“Serenity has been treating Sonny like her own. We came out of gratitude for her.”Olivia pouted and kept quiet. After some time, she said, “Now that Serenity has a son, will she still love Sonny?”Luke said, “She isn’t that kind of person. She and Liberty are sisters. How can she not love Sonny?“Besides, Liberty’s situation is different now. Even if Serenity doesn’t treat Sonny as well as before, he’ll still do fine in the future.“In fact, Serenity giving birth to a boy doesn’t affect Sonny much. A son and a nephew are different things.“It’s only disadvantageous toward Sonny if Liberty decides to have another child.”After speaking, Luke sighed. Their family was unlucky. If they had known that Liberty and Serenity would transform that much, they would not have allowed Hank and Liberty to get a divorce. Instead, th

At that moment, Zachary came out with a bottle in his hand. After the baby was fed, he fell asleep in Serenity’s arms. Serenity held him because they did not want him spitting up milk from lying down right after feeding.Besides, she had not held him much since he was born. Her family was worried that she would be tired and kept asking her to rest in bed.“Mr. York.”Hank stood and nodded at Zachary in greeting.Zachary stopped. “Hello, Mr. Brown. Have a seat. “I need to wash the baby bottle.”He raised the bottle in his hand.Hank smiled. “My parents and I are here to visit because we heard Serenity had given birth. Is she doing well?”“That’s very thoughtful of you all. Serenity’s doing fine.”Hank said, “That’s great.”Zachary let his brothers entertain the Browns while he went to clean the bottle.Hank smiled unnaturally as he watched Zachary’s actions. He did not take good care of Liberty and Sonny during Liberty’s postpartum. Since Liberty had no parents with

Luke nudged Hank. Hank returned to his senses and said, “I, I heard Serenity gave birth, so my parents and I are here to visit.”Serenity used to be his sister-in-law. He practically watched her grow up. Serenity had been a minor when he and Liberty started dating. When they got married, Liberty’s only condition was that Serenity live with them. Back then, Hank still loved Liberty. He understood that she was worried for her sister. She did not want Serenity living alone, hence her request for Serenity to stay with them.Hank had watched Serenity mature. Before his feelings for Liberty changed, he truly treated Serenity as his sister. Therefore, he had agreed to Liberty’s request without hesitation. Honestly, Hank did not know how their marriage had ended in a divorce. He was jealous of Liberty being more talented than he was, so he had Liberty quit her job to focus on getting pregnant and giving birth. That way, she would be disconnected from society. Even then, he still w

“We haven’t been able to hold the baby much either. When our parents were around, we could only squeeze in a spot to look at the baby.”While Dylan was being wary of Callum and Kevin, Peter quickly snatched their nephew from Dylan’s arms.“Haha. I finally get to hold the baby. Hi, baby. I’m Uncle Peter. I’m carrying you right now.”Dylan wanted to get the baby back. Peter walked around the sitting area to dodge his brothers, who were trying to snatch the baby away. River followed him around, begging, “Please let me hold the baby, Peter. I never got the chance to carry him since he was born. I couldn’t even look at him properly.”The York family had too many members. If the elders were present, the younger ones stood no chance of looking at the newborn baby. “Zachary and Serenity should’ve had twins or triplets. That way, all of us will have the chance to carry the babies.”Zachary heard River’s words when he walked out with a baby bottle. He laughed and said, “Do you think we

“I’ve already decided to get married to Dylan from the moment I fell in love with him. The York family will be my in-laws.”Layla teased Imogen, saying, “I thought you gave up on that.”“No way. Only a fool would give up on such great in-laws. Besides, Dylan has always been in love with me. I might’ve given up if he had fallen in love with someone else.“However, I’d still fight for a chance before giving up. If things don’t work out, it simply means that he and I aren’t fated to be together.“Luckily, our fates seem to be intertwined tightly. The fiancée Grandma May had chosen for him turned out to be me. Dylan said he’d follow Grandma May’s arrangements and that I was the only one for him.”Layla said, “He’s only saying that because he found out you’re Chameleon Fox.”“I’m Chameleon Fox, Sugar, and Imogen Doyle. Regardless of which identity of mine he falls in love with, they’re all me. Well, I do admit that I’ll still get jealous of myself. How can I, a young lady of the Doyle

“Congratulations, Serenity,” said Imogen with a smile. “I’ve been busy these days. I just came back from a business trip, so I can’t go over to visit you. You have to inform me when the sip and see showers will be. I’ll definitely be there.”Serenity replied, “I’ll invite you. Should I ask Dylan to give you a call?”“No. Mr. Dylan and I are just friends. He has the freedom to go wherever he wants without informing me. It’s just that I would’ve prepared a gift for him to deliver to the baby if he had told me he would be there.”Regardless of Imogen and Dylan’s relationship, she was on good terms with Serenity. Since they were friends, she wanted to give Serenity’s baby a gift.In fact, she had already prepared presents beforehand upon hearing Serenity’s due date from Dylan.Serenity did not expose Imogen’s lie. Dylan was definitely not simply a friend to her.She said, “Okay. You should get on with your work. I’ll invite you to the baby's one-month-old celebration.”“Okay.”Im
