Chapter 6
Author: Gu Lingfei
Serenity said with a smile, “What do I need your cousin for? He has a girlfriend. It’s too late now because the papers are signed! Keep it between us and don’t let my sister know. I don’t want her to be sad.”

Jasmine was speechless.

Her best friend sure pulled one heck of a move.

“There are all those Lifetime movies and romance novels about blindly marrying a multi-billionaire. Maybe that’s the case with you too, Seren.”

Smacking her best friend in the head, Serenity remarked with a grin, “I bet you read all the chick lit in the shop. Dream on about marrying a billionaire at first sight. Do you think the place is crawling with billionaires?”

Jasmine rubbed on the bump and sighed as Serenity had a point. Jasmine then asked, “Where’s your husband’s place?”

“Brynfield.”

“Not bad. It’s a good neighborhood and easily accessible. Plus, it’s not far from our shop. Where does your husband work? He must earn a lot of money since he bought a house in Wiltspoon and in an expensive neighborhood like Brynfield. What are his wages like? Do you need help with the mortgage?

“Seren, get your name on the title deed if he wants you to contribute to the mortgage. It’s to protect yourself. Not to jinx it but you won’t get anything when you guys fall out and divorce since it’s a prenuptial property.”

Studying her best friend’s face, Serenity answered, “You sound like my sister. He bought and paid the house in full, so there’s no mortgage. I don’t think it’s nice to put my name on the title deed when I didn’t spend a dime on it.”

Jasmine replied, “It won’t matter if the husband and wife get along.”

It struck Serenity that her brother-in-law bought the family house before marriage. He was also paying the monthly house loan, but the renovation was paid with Liberty’s money. Still, Liberty was not named on the property deed. With her mind harking back to her brother-in-law accusing Liberty of blowing cash, Serenity began to worry about her sister.

She ought to bring it up to her sister one of these days.

Serenity closed the shop at eleven o’clock at night.

Since Jasmine’s home was nearby and a family member was buying her dinner, Serenity told Jasmine to get on home.

Having shut the main door, Serenity took out her keys and walked to her e-bike.

She rode for twenty minutes until she arrived downstairs at her sister’s place. It was only when Serenity parked the bike that she realized she no longer lived there.

Lifting her head, Serenity glanced at the floor her sister was on and found that the lights were out. Although feeling down, Serenity left the family of three to be and rode her e-bike into the night.

It was midnight by the time she reached Brynfield.

She was welcomed by darkness as she pushed the door and entered the house. It did not feel like anyone lived in this space.

Grabbing her pajamas from the suitcase, Serenity took a hot shower and allowed the weariness to rock her to sleep.

Meanwhile, flanked by bodyguards, Zachary walked out of the Wiltspoon Hotel, which was owned by his family. He had just closed a big deal with a major client and arranged for the client to stay in the presidential suite. With his new wife coming into mind, Zachary decided to take a trip home.

“Sir, will it be the estate or the hilltop villa?”

The estate was the Yorks’ family home while the villa on the hill was a property belonging to Zachary. His permanent domicile was the villa, but he would catch up and have dinner with the elders of the family at the estate every now and then.

“To Brynfield.”

After thinking about it, Heath said, “Is Uncle River better than Uncle Austin at cooking? We can have our meal at home if that’s true. If not, you can take us out for dinner, Uncle River.“Mom said every place has its unique food. I want to try Solville’s local food.”River smiled. “I learned how to cook, but I’m not as good as Austin. He loved cooking since he was young and had learned from many master chefs.“How can I possibly be better than him? However, I must say that I can also prepare delicious food.“We can have our meal at the hotel we went to just now. The food there is great. They serve many of Solville’s local delicacies.”“Okay.”Heath clapped his hands happily.Callia copied her brother and also clapped her hands ecstatically.Serenity said, “Any restaurant’s fine. It’ll be pretty tiring to cook a meal ourselves.”River most likely did not cook often. Serenity had gone to his kitchen and saw the refrigerator. There were not many ingredients inside, and they we

Damian asked.“Yes, from Wiltspoon—over 1,200 miles away. It’s really far.”Rosalie had never been to Wiltspoon. The Lafayettes had no business interests there, so she had never had a reason to visit. As for going there on vacation, who had the time?Damian suddenly considered sending someone to investigate River’s family background. His sister immediately guessed his thoughts. She warned, “Damian, there’s no way River and I will ever be a thing. Don’t waste effort digging into his family.“We’ve been rivals for years. Neither of us has ever backed down.“If we actually got together, we’d be fighting nonstop. At work, at home, there’d be no peace whatsoever. I have absolutely no desire for a chaotic life like that.”After a moment of thought, she added, “I’ll ask Grandpa if Mr. Jacques is still single. We’ve met a few times, and Grandpa quite likes him and thinks we’re compatible.“He was my senior in school, and we can hold a conversation. If he’s available, maybe I’ll give i

Rosalie stared at her brother in disbelief. “Damian, River and I are sworn enemies. To defeat my opponents, of course, I have to understand them inside out.”“Know thyself and know thy enemy, and you will never be defeated” was an art of war, not a dating strategy. Damian chuckled. “I’m just saying. I’m not going to force you to be with him. But if you look at him from another angle, he really is exceptional. He does have plenty of admirers, you know.”Rosalie pursed her lips. “So what? I don’t like him. No matter how many girls like him, it’s none of my business.”After a brief pause, she muttered under her breath, “Besides, he doesn’t like me either.”Her brother smiled but did not press further. Instead, he changed the subject. “There’s an invitation to a dinner on Saturday night. You should make an appearance. I won’t be going.”“Saturday? Today is Wednesday. Okay, got it.”Rosalie had attended countless corporate events by now and was plenty experienced. Even if she was to

The founder of Crest Co. had both vision and wisdom.By transferring half of his shares to River, he had effectively locked River at Crest Co., ensuring that as long as the company thrived, he would continue to profit.Indeed, the founder had already reaped immense rewards and had gone from a man on the brink of bankruptcy to a billionaire. His wealth would only grow from here. Now that Crest Co. had essentially become River’s company, there was no way River would abandon it for another corporation.Instead, he would pour all his efforts into making Crest Co. bigger and better. The founder rarely involved himself in operations; River called all the shots. Even during the occasional meetings of critical importance, the founder deferred to River’s judgment. These days, his life revolved around his teenage daughter and son in middle school, with plenty of leisure time to travel with his wife, all while earning massive annual profits. It was truly a carefree lifestyle that inspired

“You did hit him, so apologizing is the right thing to do,” Damian said.“I already apologized very sincerely. I even explained to everyone present that it was a misunderstanding and my fault. I even iced his face for him. I did everything I was supposed to.“You don’t know how shameless he is! Just now, he called and demanded I treat him to dinner. He said if I don’t, he’s going to tell on me to Grandpa and accuse me of taking advantage of him, and ask me to take responsibility.“He said my palm ‘kissed’ his face, so that’s equivalent to taking advantage of him!”“Only River could twist getting slapped into something so outlandish. I have to admit, even I’m impressed by how easily shit like this comes out of his mouth.”Damian internally rolled his eyes. The man was obviously just making excuses to have a meal with her.Hearing his sister’s words only confirmed his suspicions that River had feelings for her.Outwardly, though, he played along. “Then he really is shameless. In the past, whenever Rosalie stole business from River, he would sometimes storm into the Summit Group office to settle the score, too. After years of watching their battles, the employees had grown accustomed to it.“I went specifically to confront him, but he had guests, so I let him off for now.” Rosalie painted herself as the victorious one.“Oh, really?” Damian walked over and sat across from her, amused. “Then why do you look so upset? You lost, didn’t you?“How could I lose? Can you not talk him up while putting me down? When I go up against River, I really don’t lose that often.”It was probably around half the time.Okay, fine. It was more than half.“I even slapped him.”She muttered, “I’ve wanted to stuff him in a sack and beat him up for ages.”“You actually hit him? Now that’s a bit much.”Rosalie grumbled, “Whose side are you on, brother? I’m your sister! River is our sworn enemy, and Crest Co. keeps expanding. They’ve even opened branches now.“We can’t affor
