Chapter 4: Fake Diamond? Fake Words?

"It is a fake stone!"

This statement was like a thunderbolt to Alex. He couldn't believe it because his butler had purchased it. And the rest of people were surprised too and soon got different emotions on their faces.

"No, impossible. It's definety a true diamond."

Alex stammered, he couldn’t bear it anymore. It was a pure slander from Mrs Locke, who he always respected.

but Mrs Andrew, his mother-in-law, stepped forward and pulled him back before he explained, giving him a painful pinch.

"Mom, I'm sorry about this." Mrs. Andrew was afraid that he would make grandma even more annoyed.

She rebuked him, "Alex, who the hell do you think you are. How dare you retort to Mrs Locke? You can't even have doubts on a letter spoken from Mrs Locke." 

Alex couldn't believe what was happening. It was pitch black around him. He felt Jack and everyone's mocking glances, anger from his mother-in-law, and disappointment from Jessica as well.

"Why? Why is that?" Inside his mind was ups and downs. He treated all the Lockes well but they distressed him all the time.

Diamond is real, but someone’s consciousness is not there. Mrs Locke slandered him for the sake of Jack’s reputation. She didn’t care about Alex at all, even intend to expel him.

"Get out of the house!" Jack, the bastard shouted loudly and the safeguards were waiting for Mrs Locke's command.

"Don't talk too much. Get away from here!" Jack said to him with sarcasm.

Alex didn't attempt to explain for himself because he knew it would make no sense.

Soon, standing beside Alex now was Jessica, she pleaded for Mrs Locke’s forgiveness. After all, Alex was her husband, they had been married for nearly 3 years.

Hearing Jessica's words, Alex lowered his head, even though he was very frustrated and angry. However, when his eyes met Jessica, he felt guilty.

 "Grandma, please forgive him, he always did foolish things. But he is still the one grandpa married me to. " Jessica pleaded.

In return for this were the mocking smiles of the others and the sharp look in Mrs. Andrew's eyes.

There was silence in the hall until Mrs. Locke spoke up:

"You should resign from the company to redeem for your husband."

Alex lifed her head in a rush and stared at Mrs Locke like a lion.

"Ye......s." Jessica's hands tightened on the hem of her skirt, her heart filled with unwillingness.

She didn't expect Alex to show off tonight and it should be her to buy the birthday present, but she was busy at that time.

Exactly, Jessica hoped to pull through this birthday party steadily while Alex wanted to help her to be valued more by Mrs Locke. What a dramatic thing!

"But, I have another opportunity for you. Because you have worked for the company very well in the past several years." Mrs Locke supplemented.

"Opportunity?" Jessica jerked her head up, her bright eyes looking at Mrs. Locke.

"That's right. You must successfully cooperate with the largest real estate company in this city, the Forest Group. 

If you fail, you will return the stake and be kicked out of the house with your parents, and your stupid husband as well."

Jessica's hands are clenched. Even if she needed to calm down to make a decision for the future quickly, she still hesitated… 

Hearing Mrs Locke had mentioned the Forest Group, Alex thought it was his chance to help Jessica out. He was guilty of causing such troubles for her.

Alex spoke his words to every one clearly and firmly, which made Jessica and her mum annoyed then.

" Y-E-S, WE WILL TAKE IT."

The atmosphere was in silence, they burst into laughter. Mrs Andrew and Jessica was stunned by those words.

Mrs Locke stared at her granddaughter, waiting for her response.

Staring at her grandma's sharp-sighted eyes, Jessica sighed and said:

"I will accept your request. If I fail, I will leave Lockes and the company; but if I succeed, you must cancel all the punishments on us, and Jack should also sincerely apologize to me."

In general, this matter to Mrs Locke was nothing but the truth, so she immediately agreed.

Then the party went on as if nothing had happened......

Then in Jessica’s House

The three got back home at midnight. It was the darkest day for them. As Mrs Andrew sat on the sofa, her lips were still working, which had lasted for a long time. Cursing words jumped out:

"It's all because of that parasite. Alex, a trashy man accustomed to a life of hypocrisy, despicable and cheap. Presenting a fake diamond and making decisions for you are absolute revenge on us. Idiot, fool…."

Mrs. Andrew was still talking a blue streak, and her mouth was like a gun muzzle that was constantly firing bullets at Jessica.

Jessica did not understand why God put her in this situation. She lived harder after getting married to Alex. Tears dropped from her eyes.

Alex had never seen her crying, he wanted to relieve her and said:

"You can make it, about the cooperation! I trust you".

"Pa…"

Jessica gave him a slap and said," get out of my house."

Alex's face was tilted to the side, his cheeks were numb to the point of loss of feeling, and his mind was also blank. 

It wasn't until a moment later that the numbing sensation in his cheeks awakened his mind. 

He turned and looked at Jessica. She didn't believe him, which made him highly desperate. He wanted to explain to her that the diamond was real, but by the look in her bloodshot eyes, he knew there was no point in what he said now.

Thinking of the divorce file, Alex went outside alone, leaving them at home. 

It's  raining outside that he got wet in seconds.He was so helpless, now he had nowhere to go.

And finally, he thought of inheriting the family. He thought of Isabel, his childhood friend and the vice president of Forest Group.

He took the phone, hesitated for a long time, finally decided to call her.
