“Kids! Breakfast’s ready! get down here before it gets cold!”. After the meal, the mood grew heavy. Lucian and Harry came down with their bags, where Velma and the kids waited by the door.

“Are you both done packing?” she asked.

“Yeah, we’re ready,” Lucian said.

Velma’s eyes shimmered as she pulled them into a hug. “My babies… take care of yourselves, and look out for each other, alright?”

The younger children clung to them. In this little home of theirs all they had was themselves. Lucian forced a smile, swallowing the lump in his throat. “I promise, Velma. I’ll get strong enough so I can create a better life for us.” Harry grinned. “Count me in. I’ll bring him back in one piece.” A knock interrupted. A hunter in uniform stood at the door. “It’s time. The train to Solis City leaves soon.”

“We’re ready to leave,” Harry said. “Bye, Velma! Bye, everyone! Take care of her, okay?”

Lucian burned in his memory the faces of his modest family most especially Velma’s trembling smile.

“Bye, Lucian! Bye, Harry! Don’t forget us!” one of the kids cried.

He waved, jaw tight, and followed the hunter to a large bus rumbling at the end of the lane.

Lucian onboarded the bus and noticed other kids his age, some nervous, some thrilled. He and Harry sat by the window. As the orphanage shrank from his view, Lucian whispered so faintly that only he could hear ,

“I’ll be back. I’ll get strong enough to give my family the life they deserve.”

Together, they headed toward the train that would carry them to Solis, the capital city of the western province and the location of Astraea Hunter Academy.

At the station, hunters guided them to a train unlike anything Lucian had seen in his life. Sleek metallic body, dark glassy sheen, neon lines pulsing with energy from beast crystals.

“No way… this looks straight out of a movie,” a kid exclaimed.

The interior had rows of cushioned seats that glowed under soft lights. Lucian and Harry stared in awe as the train attendant announced,

“Welcome aboard the Silver Line Express. Please take your seats and enjoy the ride.”

Harry let out a low whistle. “Are you seeing this? It’s like stepping into a floating palace.”

Lucian ran his hand along the seat’s smooth surface. “Yeah... this isn’t a regular train. Look at those neon lights, self-adjusting seats... who even builds something like this?”

Harry grinned, dropping into a seat. “Who cares? I could live here.” Lucian chuckled softly but kept glancing around, still amazed. “Let’s just hope it doesn’t fly off into some other realm.” Harry laughed. “At this point, I wouldn’t even complain.”

"Everyone get seated! We’ll be reaching Solis in 30 minutes.”

The train began to pick up speed. Lucian watched as the trees blurred past the window, realizing this wasn't just any train but a glimpse of the future. If beast-crystals could power something like this, what else was possible?

The train began its journey and began to pick speed. Soon trees blurred, hills rolled by, and soon the silhouette of Solis city began to appear in the distance.

Lucian pressed his forehead to the glass, breath fogging the window. Skyscrapers glowed like stars, and far beyond them rose the tallest spire in Astraea Academy.

“Holy crap,” Harry muttered. “So this is Solis city. Now I see why they call it the City of Light.”

The train curved downward into the city, slowing into Solis Central Station. The hunter guard was there to direct the students off the train.

“Move carefully and follow the hunter ahead,” one barked. Outside of the train station, another coach bus waited.

“Bro,” Lucian called the attention of Harry, “we moved from the bus to a train and now to a bus again? Isn't that weird, huh?”

harry smirked. “its probably a safety protocol you know Hunters dig that stuff.”

Passing through the city of Solis, Lucian looked out the window and saw the massive billboards, towering screens, the rush of people and traffic.

When an rank 5 hunter’s image flashed on a screen, the kids in the cabin erupted in cheers.

Harry leaned forward, eyes wide. “That’s Jirai Hamasaki! I heard he soloed a Class-A dungeon last month!”. Lucian glanced at the screen and saw a tall man in designer clothing, as he smiled for the cameras. “Hard to believe someone can reach that level of strength.”

Harry laughed. “That’s the goal, isn’t it? Get strong enough to be able to clear a dungeon by yourself.”

Lucian smirked faintly. “Maybe. I’d settle for surviving long enough to get a crowd first.”

Harry elbowed him playfully. “Relax, man. When we make it big, I’m getting my face on one of those billboards — right next to yours.”

Lucian looked out again, watching the city blur past. “Yeah,” he murmured. “One day.”

“Feels like a different world,” Lucian whispered.

Harry grabbed his shoulder. “Better get used to it, bro. This is going to be our home.”

The bus doors hissed open. And the children began to disembark and step onto the gleaming stone tiles, sunlight reflecting off the vast courtyard before them.

Every gaze was fixated on the academy ahead their faces displaying their excitement

“Wow… this place is massive!”

“Look at that tower!”

“Is this really a school?”

Astraea Academy was like a smallcity with vast walls, gleaming spires, and glass corridors that reflected sunlight. It gave off the vibe of an academic institute and stronghold.

The campus was divided into North, South, East, and West wings. Each wing served a distinct purpose. The students were being guided toward the East Wing, where the training arena was located.

Lucian stared in awe. “Is this the place is so vast I see why they only produce the best hunters ?”

Soon they reached the arena and began trooping in their large numbers. Center of the stage stood an instructor with a crystal on a platform and combat dummy.

“The entrance assessment is about to commence”

The chain whistled again, a jagged streak of purple light that sliced through the falling rain. Lucian threw himself into a roll, the weighted end of the weapon shattering the ceramic tiles where his head had been a microsecond before. She’s too fast, Lucian thought, his heart hammering against his ribs. Every time I try to close the gap, that sickle comes around like a boomerang. I’m playing her game, and she’s a pro at it. He ducked behind a massive holographic billboard advertising "Neon-Cola." The humming blue light flickered as the sickle blade bit into the metal frame, sparks showering Lucian’s shoulder. If I don’t change something now, I’m just waiting to get carved up. "System," he whispered, his eyes darting to the corner of his HUD. "Allocate stat points to agility now." The heavy scent of antiseptic and the low hum of mana-stabilisers were the first things to greet Lucian as he drifted back to consciousness. His eyelids felt like lead, stuck together by the crust of a deep, exhausted slumber. When he finally forced them open, the harsh fluorescent lights of the infirmary made him wince. "Finally you’re awake?" Lucian turned his head slowly. A nurse was standing by a terminal, checking his vitals. "How long have I been unconscious?" Lucian managed to croak out, his throat feeling like he’d swallowed a handful of dry sand. "You’ve been out since yesterday afternoon," she replied, her tone a mix of professional detachment and mild lingering surprise. "You pushed your mana pool to the absolute limit. Most students would have ended up being in bed for days, but your recovery rate is... unusual." Yesterday? Lucian sank back into the pillow. Memories of the duel flooded back—the roar of the crowd, the heat of the arena, and the terrifying pressure o

The dust cloud hung thick in the air, swirling like smoke after an explosion. For several long seconds, the entire martial hall stayed frozen in shock at the scale of the devastating attack displayed by the two students. every student, every instructor, every breath held. Inside the haze, both of the fighters had fallen the force from their attacks had blown them away. Lucian managed to stand with a hunched posture, his chest heaving as he tried catching breath. Blood dripped steadily from the cuts on his arms and ribs, staining the sand dark. His body was screaming in pain and fatigue from pushing it to the limit, but he forced himself to stay upright. Across from him, Damien was in no better shape. His longsword was nowhere to be seen; the impact of the collision had knocked it from his grasp. He held his ears that were bleeding and ringing. His vision had become hazy as his head was foggy, and he saw droplets of blood drip to the floor from his nose. Lucian's sonic blast had dis

All eyes locked on the lean bronze-badge boy with short red hair as he strode forward, fists clenched tight. Lucian felt the familiar heat flare in his chest—hotter than usual. Today, he thought, I stepped into my new rank, and determination burned through him. On his hands were the intermediate-tier gauntlets—black leather reinforced with crimson flame runes, lion heads etched across the knuckles. They fit like a second skin. Only Harry had seen them before; they’d been a gift from a wealthy family friend the week Lucian left for the academy. Today was the first time he’d wear them in real combat. A small thrill mixed with the nerves. I need a different badge colour. The benefits—resources, portals, and real training—will propel me forward faster than anything else here. His gaze flicked across the hall. Damien stood with his usual golden-badge crew, arms crossed, smirking like he already knew what was coming. Lucian stepped forward. “Damien!” The hall went dead quiet. Da

The night before the big day, several instructors gathered in a brightly lit faculty office. Lanterns flickered on the long table, casting shadows across their faces. The meeting was short, but the mood was serious. The vice head instructor leaned forward, hands clasped. “We’ve decided to give the students a real chance tomorrow. Let them prove their badges mean something. If they’ve earned their rank, they keep it. If not… someone stronger takes it.” A murmur of agreement went around the room. One of the younger teachers nodded. “Tomorrow’s advancement day. I want to see who climbs to a higher badge—and if any of these kids can actually surprise us.” Kenshi, the combat instructor with the sharp eyes, smiled faintly. “There are some who’ve shown real promise. Especially a certain redhead in my class. Lucian. He was one of the first to master mana channelling properly. Picked it up fast and was able to use it in training.” The elemental affinity teacher Vian raised an ey

The next morning, the martial hall buzzed louder than usual. Every student—mages and warriors alike—had crammed inside, shoulders pressed together, voices overlapping in restless waves. Even the instructors lined the raised platforms, arms crossed, eyes scanning the crowd like hawks. Lucian, Harry, and Graece slipped through the doors just as the heavy wooden panels thudded shut behind them. “Wow,” Graece murmured, silver hair catching the sunlight. “There are way more people here today than normal.” Harry nodded, scanning the sea of faces. “Yeah. Feels like everyone showed up expecting something big. Wonder what they’ve got planned.” They pushed forward until they reached the front rows, close enough to hear the lead instructor clearly. The man was tall with a raspy voice like gravel stepped to the centre of the sand ring. His black robe bore the academy’s silver crest. “When you first arrived here,” he began, “if you can recall, you were told one thing clearly: your badge r
