He pushed his chair aside to approach the man no one seemed to notice. Chupacabras had the ability to shapeshift into anyone. But it took one to know one.

"It's gonna be a bloodbath tonight." The beast chuckled ominously. "How can you stand around all these people, these deserts?"

"I don't hurt people." Sam said. "I'm human just as they are."

"And you're a beast, just like me. You starve like a monk and perish or feast with me and live like a king." Miguel offered.

"I'm sorry but I promised not to take risks so."

His pupils constricted. "You dare reject me? All these people will die and it will be on your head...hero."

Sam held out his fists and the man lunged towards him and vanished.

Sam fell over when the invisible force slammed him to the ground.

Maks, Artemis and Harley noticed the pandemonium.

Sam tried to punch the creature and Miguel hit him from all sides.

He coughed blood and his eyes were starting to bruise.

Sam growled and he morphed. People started to disperse screaming at the mangy beasts.

"Sam's under attack." Maks said.

Artemis retrieved her ammunition from the car. She shot at the few from a secluded location. Long range.

Harley calculated distances and opened portals to round the mangy chupacabras like sheep while Maks gored some.

Sam blocked his hands over his face but his arms were starting to numb from Miguel's blows.

"Give up! The risk is not worth taking."

"It isn't worth taking people's lives." He said.

Maks closed his eyes and his irises turned yellow.

[ Animal strength: Chameleon

His body blended in with the environment and his tentacle rounded a few to toss them into the vendor's shop.

Artemis shot at them like target practice, their bloods splattered across the bright pink wallpaper.

Harley watched Sam struggling. "I wish Fei didn't have to take my powers, I could have sent them right into the null void. Ha!"

She reached into a pocket sized portal and grabbed a sword and shield blocking a sharp claw.

She kicked it by the knee and stabbed Its neck.

One came from her blind spot and Sam elbowed it away.

Sam clutched his numb shoulder and grunted. He couldn't feel anything.

"Give up, human! You're with us! Monsters or awakeners."

"I didn't ask to be this way!" Sam said.

"You've got spunk for an amateur!" Miguel said standing on the roof of a shop.

"Last time I checked, you don't employ amateurs!" Sam said.

Miguel froze and he barred his teeth. "Well played."

Harley opened a portal and Maks shoved him in.

Miguel shouted grabbing his foot.

Maks kicked out of his shoe and it fell in with Miguel.

Artemis blew one's brains out and took up her goggles. "Is that all of em?"

Sam sighed. "Thanks guys."

Harley watched the bodies disappear like dust.

Maks faced Harley. "Where'd you send him?"

"Really?"

"Well I lost a shoe thanks for nothing."

"My powers are volatile, so anything can go wrong." She said. "I don't know where I sent it."

"Well at least they're gone." Sam said beaten to a pulp and he fainted.

Maks held him up.

"We better go."

"Good thing you're not home Sam." Artemis said putting her gun in her holster.

"Right, you don't have parents to deal with." He said and she clenched her teeth.

Sam forgot her parents were a touchy subject.

Artemis exhaled, he was hurt and needed recovery.

Maks arrived after helping Sam to disinfect his wounds.

"How is he?" Harley asked.

"Recovering, what I'd give for healing factor." Maks said looking at his one pair of shoe. "Great."

Harley stood akimbo.

"Thanks for saving my ass out there."

"You're welcome."

He frowned. "You could have stopped Dom from hurting you by the way but you're too busy counting on me as your saviour right?"

Harley bit her lip. "This is what it's about isn't it? You're still angry about that stunt."

Maks clenched his fists.

"I thought we put this behind us. You were acting like everything was fine! I tried to help!"

He had no way to counteract that. "I didn't ask you to leech my bully for my sake."

"I tried to help but it's too bad your ego gets in the way. You could have died."

He pursed his lips. "What am I supposed to do, thank you?"

"Yes!"

"Well, are you trying to hurt me?" He said.

"I saved your life you asshole!"

"Calling me names won't solve it."

"You want me to apologize?" Harley folded her arms. "Fine, I'm sorry."

He fumed then quirked his eyebrow. "I'm sorry too."

Somewhere in Prescott...

Miguel fell through the portal and collapsed into a tree. The branch snapped and he fell to the ground. "Oof!"

He lifted his head and he spotted the shoe. It was Maks's shoe, the male must somehow be affiliated to Sam. He grimaced at the shoe hoping there was no funky smell.

He sniffed the shoe getting his scent. "I will find you, Sam and you will join me."

Miguel Hernandez was bitten by a Chupacabra when he was 15, he shuddered trying to power through without telling anyone.

He was a reject.

"Hey, Miguel, do you want to come over to my place?" His friend Stacy crumbled when he walked away.

He walked away from him. "Not now Stacy."

The venom spread threatening to take over his entire being. He tried very hard to suppress his abilities but it wasn't easy to hide his emotions, he needed someone to share it with.

He climbed into Stacy's room. "Hey, Stacy, I have something to tell you."

Stacy sat up. "What's up?"

"I'm...a Chupacabra."

Stacy laughed. "Nice one."

He winced in hurt at that, hoping to try again. He morphed into a beast and Stacy screamed.

"No, don't shout!" He covered his mouth scaring him even more.

"Stacy, what's going on!?"

He heard his mother padding to his room.

Miguel looked up and he couldn't get Stacy to stop shouting. He wouldn't hesitate to reveal his identity.

Miguel leaped out the window and his mother ran in to check on him.

He was asleep.

She woke him up. "Stacy wake up, it's time for school. Did you call Miguel?"

"Who's Miguel?"

The cop had not bought the motorcycle story. Ten minutes later, the police cruiser was gone, leaving Harley and Sam walking perfectly straight lines along the rain-slicked pavement while the officer monitored their sobriety. Harley stared drily ahead, her jaw set into a rigid line as she aggressively marched down the sidewalk. Her future-lawyer pride was entirely bruised, and her tactical momentum had been completely halted by a routine breathalyser test. Right beside them, Maks trotted along the curb, his long giraffe neck swaying smoothly while his large bloodhound head let out a loud, vibrating, rhythmic *neigh*. Harley snapped her head around, her sharp eyes locking onto his snout as she frowned deeply. "It’s not funny, Maks." Sam rubbed his sore neck, jogging a bit to keep up with her fast pace. He looked up at the towering, chimeric hybrid in pure confusion. "How do you even know he’s laughing?" "Because his bloodhound ears are twitching in a mock-courtroom cadence

"I'm trying to be there for my friends," Keisha cried out, her protective armor completely shattering as she looked at Harley and Maks. "This is the best way you can be," Elvis commanded softly, his grounding guardian energy wrapping around her. Keisha looked down, a sudden wave of deep guilt washing over her chest because, deep down, she felt an overwhelming sense of relief about leaving the front line. She took a deep breath, adjusted her black gloves, and offered a tight, grateful nod to the others. Artemis stepped forward, her towering warrior frame casting a shadow over the metal table. "Julie and I will go to the realms to clear up this mess." Julie chuckled softly, her golden fox ears twitching as she folded her arms. "Yeah. Do not want to do any more damage to my celestial license." The four of them moved quickly, slipping out into the rain-slicked night to handle their respective missions. Maks stood by the cracked concrete wall, his dark eyes heavily bloodshot from the

The heavy steel door didn't melt from red lightning, nor was it smashed by an underworld trident. Instead, a sudden, erratic hum vibrated through the safehouse walls. The overhead fluorescent lights flickered violently before exploding into darkness, cutting off the building's main power supply. *BOOM.* The door was ripped clean off its hinges by a high-pressure torrent of water that surged into the room like a localized flash flood. Through the churning mist, two figures stepped into the safehouse. They were twin brothers, moving with a chilling, synchronized focus. The first twin, Wade, held his hands out as tendrils of pressurized water spun around his forearms like liquid whips. The second twin stepped up right beside him, his eyes glowing with a faint, static-blue light as he raised his palms toward the room’s dead electrical wiring. Even with the main power cut, the residual electricity in the backup generators and battery-powered appliances began to violently crackle under h

The two women lunged forward, throwing their arms around each other in a fierce, tight hug that spoke volumes of their shared history. As they finally broke the embrace, Maks stepped forward, wiping a layer of Underworld soot from his jeans. He offered a warm, genuine smile, extending his calloused hand toward the fox spirit. "It's nice to see you again, Julie." Julie didn't take his hand. Instead, she giggled softly and stepped right into his space, wrapping him in a brief, warm hug before pulling back. She turned her sharp, knowing gaze toward the rest of the room, her eyes lingering on Keisha and Elvis. She offered them a slow, respectful nod, which Elvis immediately returned with his characteristic, quiet reverence. With the tension in the room partially diffused, Julie smoothly glided over to the metal folding table where Doreen had set out some basic rations and water. She sat back, making herself comfortable as if she hadn't just materialized out of a lightning bolt. Her gol

"You betrayed me, Harley," Ares rumbled, his voice shaking the walls. "And so did you, Maks... after I helped you find that dog of yours. This is the thanks I get?"Before Maks or Harley could answer, Eric stepped squarely into the center of the room, his pale face completely firm as he faced the man who had ruined his life. "You isolated me for a decade, Ares. You trapped my mind in the dark and stole my daughter's childhood. There is absolutely no forgiving that."Ares actually flinched, a flash of genuine, deeply warped hurt crossing his chiseled face. He tightened his fists, his voice cracking with intense defensive pride. "I tried to do good! I kept the monster contained! I protected this world, and no one... absolutely no one is appreciating me!"Maks bared his teeth, stepping up right beside Eric as his C-Level Awakener System began wildly screaming with danger alerts. "All you care about is how the end justifies the means, Ares. You turn people into property and call it charit

Harley’s sharp eyes locked onto him from the saddle, and she immediately teared up, a wave of profound relief washing over her face as she saw he was alive. Then, the air pressure in the courtyard heavily plummeted as Fei Long materialized from the turquoise mist, her wooden staff loosely in hand.Maks gulped, his dark hair messy as he looked at the legendary goddess. "Fei? I... I need your help. They trapped our friends in here."Fei Long tilted her fin-like crown, her deep brown eyes shifting to him with a calm, majestic amusement. "Did they?""Look at Ares, Mistress!" Ox-Head roared from the dirt, his snou
