“What?” Daven gasped, frowning. “What does that mean? Tell me what is wrong with my father!” He demanded, and he was not even sure if the so-called system in his body could hear him.
He held onto his father’s hand so tight, waiting for a diagnosis to pop up. But then… [Unfortunately, Daven King, you do not have enough points! Perform tasks to get points.] Those words threw him off guard and he wondered how he was able to see the doctor’s illness. Did he have points earlier? What was he doing wrong now? “Daven…” His father’s cracked voice flowed into his ears and he looked straight at his father with a worried gaze. “Are you okay? I am sorry, I failed to see you at the hospital. I had work…” He lied. “How do you feel?” He asked. “He has gotten worse since the last time he visited the hospital.” Arya’s voice resounded from behind. “I don’t know what else we could do.” Her scared tone irked Daven so much that he shook his head with a determined expression. “No way! Father is not going to die on my watch.” Daven declared. “How are you going to do that?” Arya sneered. “We have no money.” Those words cut deep into Daven’s heart but he couldn't tell his sister he might have another way. The sudden system in his body was his only hope now though he didn't even understand shit about it. However, at the same time, the old radio at one end of the room was on with breaking news being delivered. THIS AFTERNOON, TEN ARE FEARED DEAD WITH OVER THIRTY VICTIMS FIGHTING FOR THEIR LIVES AT THE EAST MALL FIRE INCIDENT… The news was a sad one which caused everyone to sigh as there had been several fire breakouts in the neighborhood. But then the news prompted the system to come alive again. [Attention, Daven King, a new mission has arrived. Treat ten victims of the fire incident and earn 1000 points!] [You have one hour to complete this task! Every information you need is on level one of the medical system!] “Daven, are you even listening to me?” Arya’s shrill voice echoed in the small room, snapping Daven back to reality. “Arya…” Daven whispered, shooting up to his feet. “I will be back.” For a moment, he decided to not think of trying to understand the system. If truly the system was going to help him with his father’s sickness, he had to at least do something to prove that. Even when his sister called after him, he kept moving and soon he rushed out of the house, straight to the incident site. It was a gory sight to behold, with paramedics running around to treat the thirty victims. He looked closer to see that there were only a few paramedics attending to the victims. They were short-staffed. “This is my time…” Daven prepared himself for what was to come. He quickly took a medical overall lying around in the ambulance van and disguised himself, mixing with the paramedics. “Level one of the medical system…” Daven muttered, wondering how he was going to access the knowledge there. However, the system suddenly displayed a large screen before his eyes, detailing everything he had to do. There was no need for him to diagnose the victims because they all had visible severe burns on their bodies. “Oh God…” He whispered, in pity as he witnessed the degree of the burns on most of the victims. He had never been up close to such sights before and for a moment, he doubted his ability to carry out the task. “Why are you just standing there? Look out for the victims!” A paramedic from the side yelled at him, wondering why he was just standing around. “Yes…” Daven nodded quickly, hoping his disguise wouldn't be discovered. He closed his eyes to brace himself and when he opened his eyes again, he had a new resolve. He was going to see it to the end! He went through the level one information again, and it covered other things aside from burns. The information was basically simple first aid with a complex twist and with a smart brain, Daven was able to single out the information he needed. Daven got to work, with his first patient who had minor burns. He started by stopping the burns and cooling the affected area with a cooling pad and water before covering up the burn with a dry and clean dressing. However, the next patient was worse and Daven had a hard time treating the patient. He was no doctor, but as the seconds passed, his hands slowly got better and faster. His gaze sharpened and before long, he wheezed through ten patients with ease. “I did it…” He let out a breath of relief with sweat dripping down his face. He was so overwhelmed, in disbelief as well and he finally came to terms with the fact that the sudden system in his body was real. But then... “Hey, doctor! What did you do to me?” The first patient he treated rushed forward with a bewildered look. Immediately, a frown marred Daven’s face, wondering if he had done something wrong. “What’s wrong?” He asked. “I feel no pain… what…what did you use on me?” The patient gasped, wiggling the burned part of his body like he wasn't in pain a while ago. “Me too… I don’t feel any pain…” Another patient came up. And then another, down to the last patient Daven treated. Most of them had severe burns on their bodies and they were on the verge of death earlier but now, they stood before Daven, questioning him. “Wow…” Daven let out, surprised by the outcome of his action. But then, he didn't know whether he had done something good or he had created some kind of imbalance. Whatever the case was, Daven knew he needed to leave before they drown him in questions. On the other hand, the other paramedics noticed the commotion and they quickly gathered around with one of them feeling like Daven’s presence was odd. “You…” He pointed at Daven, stopping him from leaving. He then looked at the patients, in surprise. “Who are you? Were you sent as backup? We were just five earlier…”Latest Chapter
Cleared
The hallway turned silent, as Daven stared at the old man intensely. He just needed something to hold onto, since the proposal couldn't be trusted completely. However, the old man shook his head, “I can’t let you know that.”“Like I told you. Only after you agree to the proposal would you know the details and everything you want to know, you will, after that.”“Is that so?” Daven raised a brow, as his trust dwindled. He raised his hand to wave and dismiss the old man, but then OR door was suddenly pushed open. Two nurses rushed out, and Daven immediately stood in their way, panicked.“What’s going on?” He asked.“Please, step aside…” They quickly pushed him aside, but then he saw their distress too. As they disappeared and reappeared down the hallway, they carried a box containing blood bags and Daven’s heart couldn't help but sink further, wondering if Elena would survive.“With all you have seen, wouldn’t you take my proposal? I don’t think you can stand the rage any longer…”He cl
Gerald’s Doom
It was a precise shot, one that had the whole school in a chokehold. Gerald had long trained his marksmanship and Daven protecting Elena behind him was nothing.Bang!Blood spurted out in the blink of an eye, as the bullet hit Elena right in her chest. The school was in a complete disarray immediately as Elena fell into Daven’s arms. He clutched her bleeding chest, just enough pressure to stop the blood. He then patted her face repeatedly, “Elena!”“Someone call an ambulance!” He heard Ari’s voice behind him. And at the same time, he was trying to pull up the system stats in his mind. However, at that moment, he was completely disoriented and afraid that the only woman who stood by his side would die because of him.The system didn’t even give him a mission to save her!“Step aside, Daven…” Ari pulled on his arm, but he held on to her still. He felt her pulse, how faint it was, and the way her skin was turning pale and cold.“Please, don’t die…” He muttered. “Step aside, Daven! The Trigger
Daven couldn’t help but keep thinking back to his teacher and the Dean, wondering what was happening between them. The System had said Frederick was dangerous, and he hoped his teacher was fine.As he walked back to his school building, deciding to lay off going to Maya’, he received a call from Elena.Quickly, he connected the call and her panicked voice rang out, “Hey, where are you?”“I am at…” His eyes roamed around. “The school’s center—”“Oh shit!” She cursed. “Get away from there! Gerald is looking all over you. Ari says he has a gun.”“What?” He gasped.“Yes! Get the hell out.”Elena ended the call the next second and Daven looked around, checking his surroundings. He had expected Gerald to appear in rage, but he didn't expect the bastard would be so brazen to wield a gun.“Stupid…” He chuckled, with no ounce of fear in his eyes. And he knew no matter where he went, Gerald would always come after him. So, he walked casually around, but his eyes were on every nook and cranny.
Suicide Note
Daven pursed his lips, as Blackman led him into the meeting room. Georgina was also at the forefront, alongside the familiar faces from last time. However, his eyes landed on his teacher again and he saw how listless he looked. Doctor Blackman was a proud and elegant man, but he seemed to have a shadow hovering over him now.He looked sad.“What’s going on?” Daven asked, with his hands behind him. “I was told Maya left a suicide note.”“Does it concern me?”Georgina shook her head, but then stood up to pass the wrinkled note with tear stains on it.As Daven opened the note, he recognized Maya’s writing immediately and the first word on the note was his name.He read out every word with a silent whisper, “Daven, you are the only person who looked at me like I was human. My parents didn’t, nor anyone else around me.”“But I was stupid to think I wanted more, to let the pressure from my poor and uncaring parents get to me. I thought you weren’t enough, and so, I had to be with Gerald.”
Words Of Slander
The class murmured, pointing accusing fingers at Dayna. “She is just too rash!”“Why couldn't she just listen to save Chris? She is just a proud bitch, with no sense of reasoning!”Dayna covered her ears, glaring at Daven with eyes that spilled venom before she snapped back at the others.“Why are you all blaming?” She hissed. “Daven is the bad one here. He is the one who broke Chris’ fingers.”“Attack him! Not me!” On the other hand, Daven had let go of Chris and he now writhed on the floor, clutching his limbs. Due to the immense pain in his body, he couldn't speak a word as tears spilled from his eyes and sweat trickled down his back.Daven finally stood before Dayna, with a slight smile, “Do you really care about Chris or are you just trying to attack me?”“What…what do you mean?” She blinked and immediately stepped away from Daven due to the pressing aura around him.“I am just saying. I am not unreasonable enough to break his fingers over a petty beef you are trying to bring u
Broken Thumb
Five hours later…The school’s forum was bustling with news of Maya’s suicide attempt. She had gone into surgery for hours, and there was no news of success yet. However, even in the heat of the moment, Daven drove into the school calmly while Elena and Ari shifted nervously in their seats.Elena who had been confident about what he was going to do was now absolutely restless. In just four hours, his face had been plastered all over with killer written all over it. They knew this sort of event could trigger a revolution and might force the school’s authority to put Daven out.“Are you sure you wouldn’t go back home?” She asked.“No…” He shook his head.“Do you have at least have anything planned? You can’t go in there and claim you are innocent.”“No one will believe you!”Daven calmly turned to look at her with a slight smile, “As long as you believe me, Elena.”“As long as Ari does too.”A few minutes later, he stepped out of the car, immediately going straight for his first class o
