Noah pressed the doorbell and waited. Almost immediately, the door opened and Aria showed up in front of him.

“What took you so long? It's almost ten,” She said through her teeth so whoever was in the room wouldn't hear her.

“I'm sorry about that,” he apologized.

He didn't want to go through the details and tell him that he slept over at Gilbert's house. So, that morning he had to go home to change.

“Is that Mr Cedric?” A soft calm voice inquired from inside. “Let him in please.”

Aria released a sigh. ”Just be conscious and don't talk too much,” She reminded, and finally stepped aside for him to enter.

Mia was settling the table but she looked up immediately, a wide smile plastered across her face. “Adrian, our guest has arrived,” she called out.

Adrian showed up instantly, looking smart in blue jeans and a long brown t-shirt. He moved closer to him and extended his hand for a handshake.

“It's an honour to dine with your kind of caliber. I hope you don't mind our house.”

Noah took it with a short bow and a little smile. “Thank you so much for inviting me. And yes,” he remembered something immediately. “I brought you something,” he revealed and pulled out the wine from behind him.

“Is that Domaine de la Romanée-Conti?” A voice asked suddenly, followed by a gasp. David hurried forward and took the wine from Noah. “Yes! I was right,” he said, with eyes gone wide. “This costs $20,000! I can't believe my sister eventually struck gold.”

Mia moved closer, taking the wine from him. “Are you sure?”

David nodded quickly. “I'm not lying. Would I lie over something like that?”

Mia regarded the wine for a moment, with pure happiness. “Thank you so much for this gift.”

“Pardon our manners,” Adrian intercepted quickly, with a smile. “Please, let's have breakfast.”

Noah looked over at Aria, as if seeking permission.

Aria smiled and naturally grabbed him by the shoulder. Then, she led him to a seat.

The rest of the family also sat down.

“We are sorry for the way we received you the first time you came,” Adrian started. “We had no idea you were truly the heir.”

Aria laughed nervously. “I told you, Mum, that Noah just likes to keep everything simple. He's truly an heir from the capital.”

Mia nodded once, feeling glad within herself. She initially thought Noah was a fraud, but now even Gilbert confirms his status. Her daughter has eventually made her proud.

“If that's the case, then he could help us win the contract with Lussotech,” David said suddenly and Aria threw him a dirty stare.

“He is right,” Mia supported him quickly. “You are the true heir of the Cedric family and you stay in the capital. So, this shouldn't be hard for you.”

“But mum! That's huge! The Lussotech contract isn't something that can be gotten like that.”

“That only means he's not real!” Mia snapped back, then turned to Noah. “If you really want us to believe you, then do this. Then we will finally let you date our daughter.”

“Mom!’ Aria snapped, half shocked.

“What! This shouldn't be hard for him,” Mia fired back. “Wasn't this the reason why we wanted you to marry Donald? Then let him work it for you.”

Aria was taken aback but she still managed to keep a smiling face. “Don't worry mum, he will do it.”

But she knew that was all a lie. Noah wasn't even real to begin with. How were they supposed to get a contract with Lussotech?

Doesn't this mean she has failed already?

.

Noah eventually left the Giles family's villa and decided to go and withdraw the money that Gilbert gave him. Since Jennifer stays in the capital and it might take a while for them to meet, the money would go a long way for him.

He flagged down a taxi to the bank.

“Look who has come to the bank!” a deep voice teased just as he stepped inside,

That was a normal routine actually. Everyone looked down on him wherever he went. He actually used to think Chloe was the only one who saw potential in him but guess he was wrong about that as well.

Philip was his classmate in school and he was aware he couldn't even collect his certificate because he owned the school. So, he looks down on him at every given point.

Unlike Noah, Philip got a job as a banker the moment he graduated. This made him more prideful.

“Chloe’s one and only sweetheart,” Mark mocked.

Mark was Philip's friend and somehow, they had both decided to make his matter their business.

“It's a pity Chloe left him for Oliver.”

How did they even get their information? They work at the bank for long hours, yet they know what's going on around the city.

“I'm not here for you today. I want to withdraw.”

“Withdraw?” Philip feigned surprise. “Weren't you fired?”

“He was?” Mark laughed.

“Then, how did you get the money?

Noah released an exasperated sigh. “Will you do the job you are being employed for and attend to me?”

Mark and Philip regarded themselves for a moment before they both burst into laughter.

“Why don't you play some more with us since you are now jobless?”

“Noah feigned annoyance. “See, don't get on my nerves. Today is a good day for me already.”

“Or what? What will you do?”

“And what's so good about today? You are a broke, homeless, and jobless man. To top it all, you don't even have a love interest.”

“Your girl dumped you for a rich man!” Mark laughed aloud, supporting Philip in his mockery.

“Hello here,” a rich baritone voice greeted from behind Noah. It was a man dressed in expensive clothes, one of the bank's important people.

The workers recognized him instantly, including Noah because it doesn't matter how long the queue is, the man was always favoured whenever he came around.

“Please, come here,” Mark beckoned to him instantly, ignoring Noah completely.

“What do you guys think you are doing? I came first, you are supposed to attend to me first,” Noah protested, his voice raised slightly.

Philip gazed around and seeing that people were now looking at him, he took the cheque from Noah. “Let's see the peanut he came to withdraw.”

His eyes widened in shock as he stared at the amount on the cheque. “No way this is real!”

Mark turned to him. “What's wrong?”

“You can't believe this fool is here with fifty million dollars Cheque!” he laughed then stiffened immediately. “It must be theft. I'm calling the police on you immediately!”

“How dare you come here with a stolen cheque!”

“You saw my name on it, didn't you? How was it stolen then?”

Mark laughed. “Hilarious! As if you can afford a few thousand, talk more of a million. Call the manager. I will call the security.”

Philip took the telephone and punched some buttons before placing the phone against his ears. “Manager, there's someone here with a stolen cheque of fifty million dollars!” Philip reported while Mark called the security as well.

Almost immediately, several security men rushed inside.

Victoria didn’t just fall; she collapsed, as if something inside her had finally snapped under the weight of years. Her knees hit the floor first, then her hands, trembling, barely holding her up. Tears streamed down her face in uneven lines, her breathing jagged.“I didn’t mean it…” she whispered, voice breaking apart. “That wasn’t my intention, I swear it wasn’t…”Noah stood over her, unmoved at first. His jaw tightened, his eyes dark with something sharper than anger, more like betrayal, confusion, and disbelief, all tangled together.“Then what was your intention?” he shot back, his voice cutting through her sobs. “To kill him? To destroy everything? Because that’s exactly what you did.”Victoria flinched as the words struck her physically. Her shoulders shook harder.“Yes!” she cried out suddenly, her voice rising in a painful confession. “Yes, it’s my fault Anita died! I know that, I know!” She dragged in a breath that refused to steady. “But it wasn’t how it was supposed to hap

Zack didn’t even see it coming. The slap landed across his face with a sharp crack, snapping his head to the side and sending him stumbling backward. He barely caught himself before dropping but the second hit came faster.“Have you lost your mind?!” Victoria’s voice shook with raw fury.Zack’s vision blurred for a second as he steadied himself, one hand pressed to his cheek. “Victoria, I can explain.”“Explain?” she cut in, advancing on him. “Explain how Cedric suddenly knows where we are? Go on. I’m listening.”“I didn’t tell him…”Another slap. This time Zack hit the floor.William shot up immediately. “Mom, stop!”Victoria didn’t even glance at him. She stood over Zack, breathing hard, her anger barely contained. “You think I don’t know how this works? You think men like Cedric just wander around hoping to get lucky?”Zack pushed himself up slightly, wincing. “I didn’t give him this place. I swear. I was trying to throw him off..”“By leading him straight to us?” she snapped.“Tha

Morning traffic stretched thin across the road, the city only just beginning to wake. Jennifer’s car cut steadily through it, the low hum of the engine blending with the faint rush of wind outside.Inside, the atmosphere was far from calm.Mike sat behind the wheel, focused, both hands steady as he kept a measured distance behind the two black SUVs ahead. Their tinted windows gave nothing away, but everyone in the car knew exactly who was inside.Cedric’s men.Noah leaned back slightly in the rear seat, his gaze fixed past the windshield, sharp and unreadable. Beside him, Jennifer shifted, her arms folded as she glanced between the road and his face.“You’re very sure about this,” she said finally, breaking the silence.Noah didn’t look at her. “I am.”Jennifer studied him for a second longer. “Because right now, all we’re doing is following a lead that could either save them…” she paused slightly, “…or walk us straight into something worse.”Mike let out a quiet breath. “Wouldn’t be

As Kyle pushed his chair back slightly, already signaling the close of the discussion, her voice rose again, controlled, but insistent enough to pull him back.“Father,” she said, drawing his attention once more. “Whatever you decide, don't forget what’s at stake.” Mia reminded.Kyle’s eyes shifted to her slowly.“The dignity of the Giles family,” Mia continued, her tone tightening with each word, “is not something we can afford to gamble with. We don’t even know who took that picture or who sent it out. For all we know, more people have seen it already.”Adrian leaned in slightly, reinforcing her stance without interrupting her rhythm. “And once something like that spreads, it’s difficult to contain. Reputation damage isn’t always immediate, but it’s always costly.”Mia nodded. “Exactly. Which is why the fastest and cleanest solution is obvious.” She held Kyle’s gaze. “We remove the problem before it grows.”A pause. Then, more bluntly. “End things with Noah before he stains this fam

Morning came quietly over the Giles estate, sunlight spilling through the tall dining room windows in long, golden streaks. The table was already set with polished cutlery, crystal glasses, and plates arranged with the kind of precision that came from years of routine.Breakfast, as always, was elaborate.Fluffy buttermilk pancakes stacked high with maple syrup dripping down the sides. Crispy bacon and sausage links. Scrambled eggs folded with cheese and herbs. Golden hash browns. Freshly baked biscuits with butter and jam. A bowl of cut fruits which was strawberries, blueberries, melon, sat at the center, alongside a jug of orange juice and a silver pot of coffee still steaming.Their personal chef had outdone himself.Yet the atmosphere didn’t match the warmth of the meal.Kyle sat at the head of the table, his presence steady, commanding even in silence. • 78: the truth

Amelia got home late, late enough that the house had already slipped into that quiet, settled stillness that comes after dinner has been cleared and conversations have died down. The faint scent of food still lingered in the air, but the dining area was empty, and the lights dimmed.Mia was curled up in the living room, half-watching something on TV. She glanced up as Amelia stepped in.“You’re back,” Mia said casually.Amelia forced a small smile. “Yeah. Long day.”She didn’t stop to say more. Her mind was too full, too loud. She headed straight for Aria’s room. She knocked lightly. No response.Amelia hesitated for a second, then pushed the door open anyway. The room was dim, only the bedside lamp casting a soft glow. The bathroom door clicked open just as she stepped in, and Aria walked out, a towel wrapped securely around her waist, damp hair clinging to her shoulders. She looked tired, but still composed.“Oh you’re back,” Aria said, a faint smile forming. “When did you get in?”
