Mysterious Trillionaire Kingpin

“It's almost time!” someone shouted.

Noah looked up from behind the counter of one of the famous restaurants in the city. 

Olive and Vine is an Italian restaurant ranked in the top 4 on the chart. It had a restaurant and suites which were what made it so popular.

Noah, a poor boy trying very hard to make ends meet, was able to secure a job as one of their waiters after many hassles. 

“What's happening?” One of the boys asked, making Noah focus on them.

“Don't you know that Sawyer Oliver is finally proposing to someone?” Another replied, with a wide smile.

Noah found himself scoffing. Oliver? Propose to someone? Everyone in the restaurant knew who Oliver was.

Though, the restaurant was his and named after him infact. Olive and Vine had suites as well and Oliver has never missed a lodge. Most times, Noah was always asked to clean his apartment where he would see used condoms.

How then was it possible that he was finally proposing to a girl? Who in their right state of mind would even say a yes to the likes of Sawyer Oliver? Maybe because of the money though. A lot of girls are moved because of money.

“Who is this lucky girl?”

“A beautiful damsel from Littlerock College. She's so lucky indeed.”

Noah went stiff for a moment. Littlerock College was the school he graduated from. That aside, it was the school that his girlfriend goes to.

But there was no way. It wasn't possible.

“Henry! You are taking the diamond!” One of the boys was still saying. “Oliver has diamonds and some dollars set aside for the lucky beauty. The moment she says yes, everything will be hers.”

“Isn't that buying love?” Noah said suddenly.

Everyone turned to look at him.

“Why not? If I were a girl, I wouldn't even allow him to finish before I say yes.”

Noah shook his head briefly. “It shouldn't be actually. Love shouldn't be bought.”

They waved him off. 

“What about the pendant? I think it has her name,” the boy was saying as he hurried inside. He walked out again, pulling a carrier.

Now, Noah was intrigued. He wondered who this lady was.

“May I have the name on the pendant?”

“Yes! Let's see it!” Others chimed in.

The boy pulled over the cover on the pendant which has ‘Chloe’ on it.

Noah was shocked for a moment. That was his girlfriend's name. Before he could think much, he hurried out of the restaurant and started towards the hall where the proposal was happening.

The hall was a big one and was beautifully decorated but it had been reserved mainly for Oliver that day.

Though even at this, passersby and well-wishers were standing at every corner and looking at the lovers. 

People from each suite were in the hall, each waiting to see the girl Oliver was going to get married to.

Noah hesitated when he got to the hall. Oliver was on one knee, a ring stretched out in his hand in front of a lady whose back was against Noah.

The lady was dressed expensively, and she had a delicate figure. Noah found it difficult to see who it really was.

“I want nothing more than to spend the rest of my life with you, Chloe,” Oliver said, a wide smile plastered across his face. “Will you marry me?”

Just as he said this, four attendants walked out, each carrying a covered plate. The last one was pulling a carrier where the pendant was on.

On seeing this, people started chanting “say yes”

The lady seemed confused or maybe shocked as her gaze searched around her for a moment.

“I've got diamonds for you, Chloe. I've got gold for you and you will have more if you agree to be mine, Beckett Chloe.”

For a moment, it felt like the whole world stopped moving before Noah started forward, breaking through the line that others didn't dare to.

“Yes! I will be yours!” Chloe said happily and extended her hand. Oliver pushed the ring through her slender finger before standing up to peck her.

“Chloe?” Noah called softly, making the lovers turn to him.

A flash of horror passed Chloe’s face but relaxed quickly.

Beckett Chloe was his girlfriend and they had been dating for four years now. Noah met Chloe at school and she was just like him. She was also struggling financially and Noah had to assist her. Most of the money he gets is always spent on her.

“What is he doing here?” Gift, Chloe’s friend voiced out. She had her phone camera on and was initially taking the video of the proposal.

“If it's not one of my servants, Noah. What are you doing here? I didn't call for you!”

“What are you doing?” Noah ignored Oliver and asked Chloe instead.

“I'm sorry Noah but this has to come to an end.”

Noah couldn't believe his ears. Why?”

“Are you daft!” Oliver was angry now. “You should be glad you have a job at least. It's not like you can find a decent job without your certificate.”

Noah was more than shocked. How did Oliver know he couldn't get his certificate from the school because he hadn't paid his tuition f*e?

He turned to Chloe. "You told him?"

“Yes and more!" Oliver responded before Chloe would. "Infact, I did you a great favour employing you. If you can save the money for the next two years, you might be able to get your certificate,” he laughed. “And stop running after girls. Your life needs stability. You don't have it. You should work on yourself first. I did you a great favour by taking Chloe from you.”

Noah felt a stab of annoyance and rushed at him before he could stop himself. He punched him and sent him reeling backwards.

Oliver tasted blood but before he could stand, Noah was all over him and giving him punches fueled with anger.

Several guards rushed inside at the same time and pulled Noah away from Oliver.

“How dare you!”  Noah yelled.

Chloe stepped forward, anger blazing through her. “How dare you, Noah!” She screamed back and slapped him across the face. “How can you do that to him?”

Noah was beyond shock and the anger in him died down instantly, only to be replaced with a feeling of guilt.

“I love him! I love Sawyer Oliver.”

Noah froze. “What about me?”

She scoffed. “I'm thankful for all you've done for me. I will pay you in cash.”

Noah was dumbfounded. The girl he thought had his back for four years was only deceiving him. Noah had no one, having woken up at the orphanage. He was forced to fend for himself and when he found Chloe, he thought he had finally found someone he could call his family even though there was no family for him.

He has always been alone. And now, having been betrayed by the person he trusted the most, hurt him so much.
