For Noah Davies, it was the end of him. Working twice than he should for his girlfriend only for her to dump him for his boss. At the last minute, a man found him and told him he was not useless after all. He was Cedric, the real heir to Il fuoco empire.

Chapter 1

1:The betrayal

“Are you stupid?” A sharp voice cracked through the hall.

Everyone around jumped up in fear as Oliver strode toward them in a perfectly tailored black suit, irritation darkening his face. Even surrounded by luxury, the man still carried the same cold authority that made every employee nervous.

The employee waited, wondering whom he was referring to until he stopped in front of Noah Davies.

“You have ruined the arrangement.” Oliver glanced at the slightly tilted champagne tower beside Noah. “Do you know how much one bottle costs?”

Noah lowered his head quickly. “I'm so sorry.”

“You are sorry?” Oliver seemed more furious. “And what will that fix? You know what, Philip, remove it from his salary.” he decided.

Noah's heart skipped a beat. “Please, don't do that. I need the full salary.”

“You do?” Oliver scoffed. “Then you should have considered that before taking on long hours of work. You've been working nonstop for over twelve hours now, that's why you make mistakes!”

Noah needed to. He needed the money.

“You should be grateful I still keep you employed despite your constant mistakes and the fact that you are not even a graduate to begin with.”

Noah shivered slightly at this. He was not surprised. This was a common occurrence at the Olive and Vine restaurant.

Oliver has been like that to him for a couple of weeks now. It looked like he was always finding his faults in whatever he did, and Noah had no idea why that was so.

But Oliver was right about him. He was already tired, but he still had to continue working.

His shift had started at six in the morning, and now it was almost evening. His feet hurt badly, but he ignored them.

Pain had become normal.

At twenty-four, Noah was struggling just to survive in Casington.

He was handsome alright and tall but these attributes were completely overshadowed by his poverty. He had no degree, no family, and no connections.

Oliver scoffed softly before walking away, already barking new orders at the attendants.

Noah exhaled slowly after he left.

His shoulders burned from exhaustion. He had barely slept three hours the previous night after taking extra shifts.

But he needed the money. Chloe, his girlfriend deserved better than the tiny apartment she lived in and the endless promises he kept making.

One day, he would give her everything. That thought alone kept him moving.

He picked up another box and followed the other attendants deeper into the ballroom.

The sight before him made him pause. The entire hall looked unreal.

Massive chandeliers shimmered overhead like falling stars. White roses lined the marble walkway. Golden ribbons curled around crystal pillars, and at the center of the room stood a breathtaking platform decorated with candlelight and flower arches.

Workers carefully rolled in velvet boxes filled with jewelry. There were real diamonds, gold bracelets, and luxury watches. Even the wine bottles looked more expensive than Noah’s yearly salary.

For a moment, Noah simply stared.

Then, despite his exhaustion, he smiled faintly.

Chloe would love this kind of place, he thought.

He imagined her standing beneath the lights in a beautiful dress, probably pink since that was her best colour, laughing the way she always did when she was truly happy.

He imagined proposing to her with a diamond ring. Chloe would be so overjoyed.

That was why he kept enduring everything. Chloe meant everything to him and he promised to give her the best she deserved.

This was why he endured every insult, every exhausting shift, and every humiliation so one day, he could finally give Chloe a life she deserved.

“Hey! You there!”

Noah snapped from his thoughts as one of the supervisors shoved a bouquet of red roses into his hands.

“Take these to the private hall upstairs. Mr. Oliver is almost ready.”

Noah nodded immediately. “Alright.”

He carefully carried the enormous bouquet through the hallway, making sure not to damage the petals. The closer he got to the private hall, the quieter everything became.

Soft violin music echoed from inside.

Noah reached the doors and pushed them open slowly. The room inside was even more luxurious than the ballroom.

Candles flickered across the floor while rose petals formed a path toward the center stage.

And standing there, facing away from him, was a woman in a white short dress. She had a slim delicate body but familiar hair.

This was what the whole preparation downstairs was all about. Oliver was proposing to a lucky girl, as everyone would put it.

A smile forced at the corner of Noah's lips. He would definitely do this to Chloe one day.

Oliver whispered something into the lady's ear which made her giggle, before he turned to him, the smile quickly disappearing as fast as it had appeared. “Hey dummy! The flower!”

Noah jerked out of his fantasy and hurried to hand over the flower.

At this moment, the lady finally turned slightly, a wide smile plastered on her face.

Their gaze held and locked instantly.

Noah froze at whom he was staring.

“Chloe?” His voice shook with tremor.
