DEAD OR ALIVE

Greg heard what happened to Justin's wife (Lina). He went to visit her to know how she's doing. Due to what happened at the construction site, activities have been put on hold. Operations paralyzed. This construction company produces different building materials like cement, rods, paints and much more.

Most people who are into real estate depends on the products of this company both importers and exporters. The countries economy is crippling because a lot of revenue is been generated by the government from taxes the company pays.

Job opportunities became so limited. Greg has been looking for a job ever since but to no avail. He tried all his best to make ends meet but still struggle to put food on the table. Greg's wife Alisa never supported him. Even when he gives money to his wife to buy foodstuff at home. She keep the money for herself. The children sometimes even starve due to her carefree attitude.

Alisa insults Greg at will. Always pointing out and rubbing it in his face about not securing a new job. She tells him, it is only a useless man who can't fed for his family. One day he went job hurting even if it's a minimal job so that his family can feed. He ran into his old friend back in school days.

"What a small world" Robinson said to Greg. In responds he said "I'm I dreaming? What in the world are you doing in this city? I thought you are still in Australia. There was no means of communication after school. I lost your contact and couldn't reach you in anyway. Besides you know I'm not the social media type."

Robinson said to him "I understand perfectly well, so what are you doing here?" "I'm looking for a job." Greg said. "The construction company where I work have been shut down due to an unfortunate incident and ever since then, I have not been able to find myself a better job."

Robinson gave Greg his address and asked him to visit at his leisure. Greg was shocked to see Robinson in affluence. This was the same guy who always came last in school. He practically beg for answers during examinations. "How ironic?" Greg said to himself. "what a world we are living in?"

Greg went back home and said to his wife. "I ran into my old time friend back in school and he gave me his address and asked me to visit him." Alisa shouted, "so what? Should I jump and start applauding you for that?" "Look at how lazy you are, a man who can't provide for his family." "I regret marrying you. if you say another word again about your friend you will see what I will do too you."

Greg wanted to ask for her opinion if it is logical to ask for help from his friend considering their current situation. Before he could do that Alisa when straight to the kitchen, brought out hot water and poured it on him. Foolish man she said. "Your family is starving and all you can tell me is a stupid story about your friend."

Greg never wanted their flatmates to know about the incident. He quickly maned up, beared the pain of the hot water that was poured on him by his wife and quickly went to see his friend Robinson that evening.

"I'm surprised to see you. I wasn't expecting you this quick. Come on and sit down". Robinson said. "Thanks" Greg replied. What brings you to my house? Greg, even if it's been long I still know you and from the looks on your face, you don't look good at all. What's wrong?

Greg said to him. "Do you remember Alisa back in school?" "Yes of course the girl you told me you love with all your heart. A girl you always brag about that she has stolen your heart. What about her?" he asked. "That is the girl I got married too." "Really" Robinson said. 'Wow congratulations."

"Congratulations you say? Look friend, my life has been a living hell since we got married. As I'm talking to you now, I'm in so much pain. My wife poured hot water on me hours after we met at the Mall."

"What? Why would she do that? Greg explained everything he is going through in his home to Robinson and asked. "Do you think I made a mistake? "It is clear and pronounced." Robinson replied. "If what you are telling me is true, I don't see any reason why you are still in that marriage. It shows she never loved you."

"I can't just divorce her. I'm thinking of the children. I don't want them growing up in a broken home without their parents." Robinson said. "Look your home is already broken. If you want you live long you need to do the needful. There is no marriage with a template. So follow you marriage with the steps, baby step that is required." There are marriages where you can keep on enduring and hope for the best. But this case is different. You see this ticking bomb, if you remain in this supposed marriage, it will blow up in your face. Is that what you want? Your children will understand better when they grow up."

He took Greg to the hospital. Paid the whole medical bills and gave some money to him. He spent two week at the hospital before he was discharged. Alisa never cared to look for his husband or to know his whereabout ever since he left home. She cares less about the children. Even when they are crying or needs something she yells at them and tells them to go to their father.

After Greg returned home, she never bothered to ask where he was all these while. The only thing the said was, oh you shouldn't have returned home from your so called mistress place who you went too, to find solace.

Greg said to her. "This is the final straw. I can't take this anymore. I'm filing for a divorce. You will here from my lawyer soon." Greg filed for a divorce and requested the court let him have custody of the children. It was granted and that's how Greg moved on.
