People instinctively retreated. What is so funny about this situation? Why is this soldier laughing hysterically? Was there some sort of crazed fever spreading through the city?

Seeing their wary and fearful faces, Derek felt a sense of injustice and anger from within.

"Do you even know his name?" He pointed at Kael. "Do you know how much he has sacrificed for your lives? Do you know what he has experienced just to keep our country safe?"

His words caused a wave of silence to wash over the crowd. People exchanged gazes and murmured silently amongst themselves.

"You—" Derek turned to the airport guard swiftly. His eyes, as cold as his voice, "—don't you want to know where all the horrifying scars on his body came from?"

The airport guard shrank back with a remorseful expression and tried to defend himself, "I didn't—"

"Alright, Derek. That's enough," Kael waved his fingers dismissively, creases appearing on his forehead.

He only wanted to retire peacefully and return to his family after many lonely years. He didn't expect to run into this kind of situation upon his arrival.

Kael pulled his shirt over his head and wore his coat. Shrugging, he said, "The guard is simply following the rules and regulations. There is nothing wrong with that. And I'm not someone important, so don't call people's attention to me."

Kael glanced at the airport guard, "Don't use so much force in future. Be careful of stepping on the wrong toes."

"Let it go," He waved his hands at Derek and crossed the exit.

As he looked at the world outside the airport, his eyes turned tender again. It had been nine years since he left Solara.

He wonders how Bridget has been doing. He was curious if she eventually gave birth to a boy like she wanted or he won and she had a girl instead.

"If it's a girl, she would look a lot like her mother right?" His eyes turned softer as he imagined a miniature version of his wife.

Oh God, she would be just as beautiful, sweet and kind like his Bridget. Kael stroked his chin as the scene of a happy reunion unfolded in his head.

On the other hand, Derek clenched his fists tightly and gritted his teeth. "General..."

Why didn't Kael let him speak? Every single one of the hundred scars on Kael's body was earned from defending this country.

According to the army physicians, it was a miracle that he had even survived till this moment!

Kael had used both blood, flesh and sweat to protect Valoria country. Because of him, no enemy dared to oppose or attack Valoria.

People lived without fear and this country has been peaceful these past few years, but he didn't even want any credit for it?

It was precisely this attitude that had earned him a lot of enemies in the army.

"Sir, please forgive me. I was wrong to act impulsively just now," the airport guard apologized, bowing his head in guilt.

But after a minute, he raised his head and asked cautiously, "If I may ask sir, what was the name of that soldier just now?"

Derek looked at the airport guard dismissively. "You can call him... the King of Valor."

The airport guard froze on the spot and his eyes almost popped out of their sockets.

"K... King of... Valor?!"

In an instant, all eyes turned in the direction of the departing figure. That was the top war god in Valoria?! The number one King of Valor?!

Everyone in Valoria and beyond knew the story of this unparalleled war god.

He had joined the army nine years ago. He had led the Valorian army to countless victories on the battlefield.

He once led a small unit of fifty soldiers against an overwhelmingly larger enemy force which was over a million soldiers, yet still emerged victorious!

That alone had earned him the title of the indomitable general and had won over many hearts in the country.

At this moment, the airport guard and the crowd now understood why that man had so many horrifying scars.

That was a price he had paid to keep them safe. Derek's anger was indeed justifiable.

The airport guard bowed severally while muttering, "I'm sorry... Please forgive this servant's short-sightedness. I'm so sorry."

While this commotion was going on in the airport, two children wandered outside the airport.

They stood by the food stalls set up beside the airport and watched the pedestrians that were eating.

Hunger was etched clearly on their small faces. After all, they had not eaten anything for several days except those steamed buns from that kind aunty.

Finn was hungrier than his sister because he had refused to accept the buns earlier. But even now, he wouldn't lower his head and beg.

His mother always told him to hold his head high and never do things conflicting his conscience.

So no matter how much his stomach grumbled, he endured and held his sister's hand firmly.

"Finn, look!" Isla's eyes lit up as she pointed at a nearby table.

There was a bowl of half-eaten fried chicken on the table and there was no one occupying the seat.

At the same time, every single high ranking official in Solara city received a notification from the provincial capital. The instructions were simple.[Gather your forces around Sunshine Orphanage. No one is allowed to go in or leave without permission from the King of Valor. If anyone dares to resist, shoot on site!]Meanwhile, in one of the rooms built just below the orphanage ground floor, a little boy was tied to the pillar. His eyes were fixated on the doctor standing beside the small bed positioned in one corner of the room. The young boy appeared very anxious, but because his mouth was gagged, he couldn't make any audible sound.A middle-aged man with a dirty goatee was standing beside the pillar, puffing out heavy smoke from the tobacco pipe in his hand. His lips curled up in a sinister way and he snarled at the boy, "You little bastard, if you dare steal someone's phone and try to snitch again, I'll break your arms.""I took you in to make money for me, not land me in jail,"

Outside the villa, Rowan looked up at the gigantic gate and gave an exhausted sigh. "What do we do now, Kael? It's obvious that Ivan won't back down. Those foolish noble families will obviously believe you two are acquainted.""Let it be," Kael shrugged nonchalantly. He really didn't care about Ivan's threats. The latter has no evidence of their acquaintance.Besides, if he wanted, he could easily expose Ivan's lies and trample on him with a few words. But as long as Ivan heed to their warnings and stop his foolish actions, he will let him survive.RING!RING!Kael's phone suddenly chimed loudly in his pockets. When he saw the caller ID flashing on the phone screen, his brows furrowed at the unknown number. He answered the call and lifted the phone to his ear with a hint of suspicion. As soon as the call connected, an urgent, childish voice came through the line."Uncle... uncle... Please, save my sister!"Kael's eyes widened slightly because he remembered the voice clearly. Ivan Sterling smirked at them, believing they were already intimidated by his words. He originally planned to bury the hatchet and have a good conversation with his older brother. But now it was obvious that Rowan didn't even want to acknowledge him.And as for Kael, Ivan didn't really care much about him. He was just a loser who had been lucky enough to return home safely. There is no reason to pay any special attention to a nobody like him."The last time I checked, that villa is in Bridget's name. Who are you to decide who gets it?" Rowan posed a calm question, watching his younger brother's face carefully."Humph! That slut is no longer alive. Should I just let her villa rot?"Kael's eyes darkened with fury. "She is your niece. Isn't it a bit too much to call her a slut?""Hahaha!" Ivan cackled mockingly as his gaze swept over Kael's frame. "Kid, have you forgotten that your father-in-law is no longer alive? A loser who married into our family has no right to interfere in our affa

"Humph! Why should I care about him? They are so poor and disgusting. It makes my skin crawl just thinking we'll be standing under the same roof," Serena Sterling spat out disdainfully."If it wasn't because of that bitch Bridget that gave them her villa before she died, they would have been living in the slums."THUD!She kicked a servant passing by, making the man trip and hit his face on the floor. Then she scolded him, "Can't you watch where you are going? You almost made me lose my footing. Now hurry up and clean this dirty footprint from the floor."The servant looked down at the floor shamefully. His fingers clenched but he didn't dare talk back.Instead, he hurriedly stood up and bowed. "I'm sorry, miss. I'll clean the dirty stain right away."The servant had only just begun to clean the stain when the entrance door swung open. "At the very least, the assets should be in your name," Ida's gaze turned sharp and determined as she spoke. "Neither me or your uncle, nor Ivan's family deserve to inherit the fortune left by your father-in-law."She held Kael's hands and informed him bitterly, "Listen, you have been away for so long so you don't know many things that happened in your absence. After your father-in-law was killed, your uncle and I hid away in fear but guess what your uncle Ivan did."Her words caught Kael's attention. His brows knitted and he asked her calmly, "What did he do? I know he was always at loggerheads with father, but he wouldn't do anything extreme, right?""Ivan and his family took advantage of the situation and directly joined forces with Rutherford's family!" Ida snapped resentfully."All because they coveted the family fortune, they disregarded their familial ties and dignity."Just saying the words made Ida boil angrily. Kael stopped reading for a minute. His vision clouded and he was filled with grief. A tear dropped on the page as he read the last entry.[It's almost nine years now.
