People instinctively retreated. What is so funny about this situation? Why is this soldier laughing hysterically? Was there some sort of crazed fever spreading through the city?

Seeing their wary and fearful faces, Derek felt a sense of injustice and anger from within.

"Do you even know his name?" He pointed at Kael. "Do you know how much he has sacrificed for your lives? Do you know what he has experienced just to keep our country safe?"

His words caused a wave of silence to wash over the crowd. People exchanged gazes and murmured silently amongst themselves.

"You—" Derek turned to the airport guard swiftly. His eyes, as cold as his voice, "—don't you want to know where all the horrifying scars on his body came from?"

The airport guard shrank back with a remorseful expression and tried to defend himself, "I didn't—"

"Alright, Derek. That's enough," Kael waved his fingers dismissively, creases appearing on his forehead.

He only wanted to retire peacefully and return to his family after many lonely years. He didn't expect to run into this kind of situation upon his arrival.

Kael pulled his shirt over his head and wore his coat. Shrugging, he said, "The guard is simply following the rules and regulations. There is nothing wrong with that. And I'm not someone important, so don't call people's attention to me."

Kael glanced at the airport guard, "Don't use so much force in future. Be careful of stepping on the wrong toes."

"Let it go," He waved his hands at Derek and crossed the exit.

As he looked at the world outside the airport, his eyes turned tender again. It had been nine years since he left Solara.

He wonders how Bridget has been doing. He was curious if she eventually gave birth to a boy like she wanted or he won and she had a girl instead.

"If it's a girl, she would look a lot like her mother right?" His eyes turned softer as he imagined a miniature version of his wife.

Oh God, she would be just as beautiful, sweet and kind like his Bridget. Kael stroked his chin as the scene of a happy reunion unfolded in his head.

On the other hand, Derek clenched his fists tightly and gritted his teeth. "General..."

Why didn't Kael let him speak? Every single one of the hundred scars on Kael's body was earned from defending this country.

According to the army physicians, it was a miracle that he had even survived till this moment!

Kael had used both blood, flesh and sweat to protect Valoria country. Because of him, no enemy dared to oppose or attack Valoria.

People lived without fear and this country has been peaceful these past few years, but he didn't even want any credit for it?

It was precisely this attitude that had earned him a lot of enemies in the army.

"Sir, please forgive me. I was wrong to act impulsively just now," the airport guard apologized, bowing his head in guilt.

But after a minute, he raised his head and asked cautiously, "If I may ask sir, what was the name of that soldier just now?"

Derek looked at the airport guard dismissively. "You can call him... the King of Valor."

The airport guard froze on the spot and his eyes almost popped out of their sockets.

"K... King of... Valor?!"

In an instant, all eyes turned in the direction of the departing figure. That was the top war god in Valoria?! The number one King of Valor?!

Everyone in Valoria and beyond knew the story of this unparalleled war god.

He had joined the army nine years ago. He had led the Valorian army to countless victories on the battlefield.

He once led a small unit of fifty soldiers against an overwhelmingly larger enemy force which was over a million soldiers, yet still emerged victorious!

That alone had earned him the title of the indomitable general and had won over many hearts in the country.

At this moment, the airport guard and the crowd now understood why that man had so many horrifying scars.

That was a price he had paid to keep them safe. Derek's anger was indeed justifiable.

The airport guard bowed severally while muttering, "I'm sorry... Please forgive this servant's short-sightedness. I'm so sorry."

While this commotion was going on in the airport, two children wandered outside the airport.

They stood by the food stalls set up beside the airport and watched the pedestrians that were eating.

Hunger was etched clearly on their small faces. After all, they had not eaten anything for several days except those steamed buns from that kind aunty.

Finn was hungrier than his sister because he had refused to accept the buns earlier. But even now, he wouldn't lower his head and beg.

His mother always told him to hold his head high and never do things conflicting his conscience.

So no matter how much his stomach grumbled, he endured and held his sister's hand firmly.

"Finn, look!" Isla's eyes lit up as she pointed at a nearby table.

There was a bowl of half-eaten fried chicken on the table and there was no one occupying the seat.
