For three seconds, the underground facility was completely black.

Ethan grabbed his shoulder.

“What did we activate?”

“I don't know.”

“Find out.”

“I’m trying.”

Mason's fingers moved rapidly across the keyboard.

Across the facility, machines began waking up.

Fans spun.

The road out of Blackridge was almost empty.Ethan drove without headlights for the first few miles, following Mason's directions through a maze of abandoned service roads.Behind them, the city glowed against the night sky.But something had changed.Police sirens echoed from every direction.Helicopters circled above the skyline.News reports were already broadcasting fragments of the Nightfall files. The city was waking up to a truth it had never been prepared to see.Olivia sat in the passenger seat, staring at her phone.“It's everywhere.”Ethan kept his eyes on the road.“What are they saying?”“Some networks are calling it the biggest government scandal in history.”“And the others?”“They're calling it fake.”Ethan almost laughed.“Of course they are.”Mason's voice came through the speaker.“Don't celebrate yet.”Ethan glanced at the dashboard.“What happened?”“The secondary network is still active.”“How?”“I don't know.”“You said you could shut it down.”“I said I could s
