THE PROMISE THAT CHANGED THE UNIVERSE

Xuan Tian did not return to class after leaving the underground chamber.

He escorted Elias out, secured the service door, and insisted that the teacher report the structural danger to the school administration.

He did not explain the creature in detail.Elias had witnessed enough to know that ordinary explanations were no longer sufficient.

Before they separated, the teacher stopped him near the main entrance."You saved my life."

Xuan Tian shook his head."I prevented a dangerous situation from becoming worse."

"That is a modest way to describe what happened."

Elias hesitated."Will you tell me the truth about yourself?"

Xuan Tian looked toward the city skyline."Not yet."

The teacher nodded slowly."Then I will wait."

For the first time since his arrival on Earth, Xuan Tian had found someone outside his family who might become a useful ally. But he could not afford to trust too quickly.

The black ring had revealed that the seals were connected, and the shadow creature had confirmed that the Devourer remained active.

He needed answers and he needed power.

That evening, Xuan Tian returned home.

Margaret was preparing dinner, while Lily sat at the table drawing another picture. Daniel had been discharged from the hospital and was resting on the sofa.

When Cooper entered, his father sat up."You have been busy lately."

"I have had things to investigate."

Daniel gave a tired smile."Just remember that you are still a student. You cannot carry the entire world on your shoulders."

Xuan Tian paused. For a moment, he saw not the injured man sitting on the sofa, but the father who had once carried Cooper home when he fell asleep in the car.

He had never known his own parents in this way. In his former life, he had been taken into a cultivation sect as a child and trained until affection became a distant memory.

Daniel's words stirred something unfamiliar."I will remember," he said.

Lily rushed over and pulled him toward the dining table."I made something for you."

She handed him a sheet of paper. It showed four people standing beneath a bright sun. This time, a fifth figure stood above them, surrounded by golden light.

"Who's that?" Xuan Tian asked."That's you."

"Why am I floating?"

"Because you're the strongest."

He looked at the picture.

Lily smiled.

"You won't let anything bad happen to us, will you?"

Xuan Tian crouched until they were eye to eye."I will do everything in my power to protect you."

It was not the careless promise of someone who believed himself invincible. It was the commitment of someone who understood exactly how much could be lost.

Lily hugged him.He gently returned the embrace.

Behind them, Margaret wiped her eyes and turned back toward the kitchen. For the first time since his reincarnation, Xuan Tian no longer thought of Earth as a temporary prison,He had a reason to remain.

Later that night, Xuan Tian sat alone beneath the open window. He had reached a decision.

He would not rush blindly into the mysteries of the ancient seals. He would strengthen his body, investigate the Devourer, and learn how spiritual energy had become so scarce on Earth.

At the same time, he would dismantle Marcus Vane's hold over the William family through evidence, lawful action, and whatever legitimate opportunities he could find to restore their finances.

Power alone could defeat an enemy.

But wisdom was needed to prevent the same enemy from returning.

He opened the black ring and a projection appeared above his palm.Seven symbols formed a circle. The first glowed gold,The second flickered faintly,The remaining five were dark.

A message appeared.

CELESTIAL ORIGIN LEGACY: 2 OF 7 SEALS LOCATED.

Beneath it, another line emerged.

CULTIVATION STATUS: EARLY QI GATHERING.

Xuan Tian frowned. He had located two seals, but the second remained only partially opened. His progress was slower than he wanted.

Then the projection changed, and a vast image of the universe appeared.Stars glittered across the darkness. Galaxies spiralled in magnificent patterns.

At the centre stood the black sphere. Its surface was covered in cracks.

A final message appeared.

THE FIRST COLLAPSE WAS NOT THE END.

Xuan Tian stared at the words. The black star had not merely destroyed his former universe.

It had survived. And somehow, its presence was connected to Earth.

The ring displayed one final warning.

ESTIMATED SEAL FAILURE: UNKNOWN.

The projection vanished,Xuan Tian closed his hand around the ring.

He had once believed himself capable of overcoming any obstacle through cultivation alone. Now he understood that his greatest challenge might not be restoring his former strength.

It might be discovering why the universe had brought him here.He rose and looked toward the sleeping city.

Tomorrow, he will begin again. He would cultivate, investigate, and protect the people who had accepted him without knowing who he truly was.

Marcus Vane would face the consequences of his actions. The ancient seals would be uncovered. And the truth about the Devourer would eventually emerge.

But for tonight, Xuan Tian allowed himself a rare moment of peace. He remembered Lily's drawing. He remembered Margaret's worried hands and Daniel's quiet advice.

Then he spoke into the darkness."I once pursued the power to rule the heavens."

His eyes reflected a faint golden light."Now I will pursue the power to protect what matters."

Far beyond Earth, in a region of space untouched by any known civilisation, the black sphere pulsed.

A crack spread across its surface.Something stirred within it.And a voice older than the stars whispered,THE EMPEROR HAS RETURNED.
