Chapter 9 – The Art of Not Dying Like an Extra
Jackson thought inwardly, assessing the situation. "And that guy? That’s Arin Blake," Logan added, nodding towards a muscular youth clad in sleek black robes. "A proud son of the heavens, as they say. He’s got an innate talent for lightning arts. Already has his little crew of followers hanging on his every word." "Wow," Jackson muttered, his tone as flat as a spirit stone. "I’m shaking in my boots." Logan chuckled. "Jealous?" "Yeah, of course. My lifelong dream is to be surrounded by bootlickers who laugh at my unfunny jokes and pretend I’m a god. Just like those rich second-generation young masters who get face-slapped by protagonists." Jackson’s sarcasm went completely over Logan’s head. Suddenly, the atmosphere shifted. A sharp gust of wind swept through the assembly ground, silencing the murmuring students. One guy shivered and muttered, "Why do I suddenly feel a chill in my butt?" Another student blinked. "Wait… you don't wear pants?!" Swoosh! Without warning, shadows darted into the courtyard. Figures clad in dark, ninja-like outfits descended from the rooftops, their movements swift and deadly. One student screamed, "Shit! It's a cultivator assassination assassins!" Seeing them arriving with killing intents. Another student yelled, "Wait, wait! Can we talk this out?! I haven't even touched a woman yet!" Before anyone could react, chaos erupted. The masked assailants attacked without hesitation, their strikes precise and brutal. One poor fool tried to act cool, stepping forward with his sword. "I am a genius of the Celestial Sword Sect! You lowly—" Crack! His nose met a fist before he could even finish his sentence. Another ‘proud son of the heavens’ attempted to counter with a fiery technique but was swiftly overpowered. His arm twisted painfully until it snapped. Jackson deadpanned. Proud son of the heavens, huh? More like proud son of a hospital bed. "What's going on?!" Logan yelled, his earlier cheer replaced with panic. Jackson didn’t answer. His eyes narrowed. The assailants were relentless, their attacks coordinated. It was clear they weren’t pulling punches or else he would have taken it as a drill. One guy tried to run, only to get dropkicked into a stone pillar. "Ah, my handsome face!" Nearby, Celeste dodged a flurry of strikes with graceful precision, her icy aura flaring as she retaliated. Arin Blake unleashed a thunderous bolt of lightning, knocking one attacker off their feet. Logan whistled. "Damn, she's beautiful and deadly." Jackson shrugged. "Yeah, yeah. Just make sure you don’t get kick to dead while watching." As students panicked, one fool ran past Jackson while screaming, "I CAN’T DIE A VIRGIN!" Jackson’s face twitched. Priorities. Logan grabbed his arm. "We need to move! This isn’t our fight!" Jackson was about to nod, but then he saw an attacker leap at them. He shoved Logan aside. "Watch out!" The masked man’s kick missed and shattered a statue into chunks of stone instead. Jackson wasted no time. He lunged forward, his fist connecting with the attacker’s chest. The sheer force sent the masked figure sprawling. "Whoa," Logan breathed. "You didn’t hold back, did you?" Jackson didn’t reply. He crouched behind another toppled statue and motioned Logan to follow. "What’s going on?! Storm Academy is a top-tier school! How the hell is it getting attacked?! This is like Harvard getting bombed in broad daylight!" Jackson sighed. "Yeah, well, welcome to cultivation stories, where security is only strong when it’s convenient for the plot, I bet this has never happened before and must be happening only due to the MC being among us." Logan groaned. "This is bullshit. Also… I think I peed a little." Jackson scooted away slightly upon hearing those words with a look of disgust. Meanwhile, Arin Blake stood heroically, lightning crackling around his fists. "Back off!" Arin roared, his voice commanding. He thrust his palm forward, unleashing a bolt of electricity that sent the attacker flying. Logan whispered, "Impressive." Jackson squinted as he saw through him. This dude is just using a treasure to boost his power. Bet he can’t even cook instant noodles without it. The scion from the Zhao Clan was also fighting fiercely, his sword carving arcs through the air. But despite all their skill, the students were getting overwhelmed. "Fall back!" someone shouted. "We can't defeat them!" Another guy yelled, "Screw this! I’ll hide and let whosoever is the MC to handle it!" Indeed, retreat was the smartest option. But Jackson couldn't shake the feeling that something was off. As they ran towards the main school compound, the sounds of battle faded behind them. They burst through the gates— And were greeted with silence. The training grounds, once bustling with activity, were eerily empty. Logan frowned. "Where is everyone?" Jackson rubbed his chin. "Either they escaped, or…" He paused. "Wait. Did you hear that?" A soft sobbing sound echoed. They turned to see a girl kneeling on the ground, clutching her head. "This can’t be real… this can’t be happening! I came to school to learn… not… not to be killed! Wuuu~ I want my daddy!" Jackson muttered, "Well, that was dramatic." Nearby, another student was raging. "This is BULLSHIT! Where the hell are the teachers?!" Someone else joined in, "Yeah! Weren’t they supposed to be protectors? They’re always hyped up as the strongest in China!" "Maybe… maybe they’re fighting the assailants?" "Or maybe," Jackson said slowly, "they’re on break." Silence. "…No way," Logan whispered. "Oh, yes way," Jackson deadpanned. "I bet they’re just having tea and talking about how ‘today feels a little strange’ while we’re out here getting our asses kicked." The students’ faces paled. One guy groaned, "Had I known, I would have skipped class today!" Jackson nodded. "And yet, you woke up, got dressed, and walked straight into a shounen massacre arc." The boy whimpered. "I regret everything." Jackson sighed. "Yeah, yeah. Get in line as regret wouldn't save you." As the tension grew, Logan slowly turned to Jackson. "So… what’s the plan?" Jackson smirked. "Plan? Oh, it’s simple." He pointed to a nearby roof. "We’re gonna Batman our way outta here." Logan blinked. "The hell does that mean?" Jackson grabbed him by the collar. "Shut up and trust me."

Roughly a 15-minute walk from there was the second option for the house he was supposed to buy. He could not wait to take a bath because the mud and blood from his adventures were really taking a toll on him."Big Sis Aria, you're home!" A little figure could be seen dashing towards Aria when she entered the house. The little girl was wearing a sleeping pajama with floral designs. Her features were pretty and cute, her looks would doubt would be a ravishing beauty in the future. She was a mini-version of Aria but with a lighter shade of emerald green hair.'These girls must be little leaves. The Greene name in their family heritage was without reason.' Aster assumed in his head while watching the interaction of the sisters."Oh, sis Aria. Who is the guest at the door? Is he your man?" A new voice came from the house as another Aria came to Aster's view. She was the same age as Aria but compared to the latter's mature and smart features, this one had a mischievous air around her. There

"If you agree, I will work for you—cooking, cleaning, and preparing necessities. Basically, we'd be sharing quarters while you laze around, only needing to pay your dues with the money you have," she said, trying to persuade me when she noticed I was still unconvinced. "Since you're new in town, I'm the perfect information broker. I'll even give you the chance to wed and bed me. But don’t get carried away with your wild fantasies—owning my body doesn’t mean you own my heart. You'll have to work for that. This is for my siblings’ future."I raised a brow, unsure if I should laugh or be wary. Information and maid services? I couldn’t care less. I was perfectly capable of taking care of myself. Even as a former prestigious young master, I had trained myself in various survival skills—cooking, carpentry, even cleaning. But the bonus of only paying a thousand gold coins? Not bad. And as for the prospect of having Aria… well, who was I to refuse when I was a man of culture? Aria would be an

We locked eyes, both refusing to blink. It was like one of those absurd competitions where the first to flinch would be the loser—the one who had to give up on getting their hands on the house. A rare sight, really. Two teens barely stepping into adulthood, arguing over a high-priced property like seasoned investors.Minutes passed, and we remained locked in this silent battle of wills. Neither of us noticed that someone new had entered the room. She was a mature beauty, her long green locks and matching emerald eyes standing out effortlessly. Every curve of her body was accentuated by the tight-fitting dress she wore, exuding confidence and control. She stepped behind the counter, standing beside Aria. Since I was facing them directly, I was the first to notice her arrival."Hello," I greeted casually, already suspecting that she was the one behind the voice I’d heard earlier—the boss lady."Hello to you as well." She smiled, her voice smooth yet authoritative. "My name is Esmeralda

"This house is near the café that serves the best hot cocoa!" she said, describing it like she truly knew every landmark worth visiting.'This house' and 'that house' were spouted in every nook and cranny of the building. Caelum’s brows twitched, unsure if he should laugh or cry at the clerk’s enthusiasm. She even divulged personal information that she was supposed to withhold professionally—like her birthday and the fact that her house was near the school. From what he knew, she had recently turned sixteen and was expecting to enter the next semester at the academy. She was older than him by a month and had siblings.Caelum sighed inwardly. Sister, here I thought you were some formidable smartypants my age. Then you shattered that illusion with your innocent enthusiasm.Be professional here. Be professional! he told himself but couldn’t bring himself to say it out loud. Somehow, he couldn’t bear to break her happy expression."Alright, alright. That’s enough, little Aria."A calm voi

'Maybe the con artist's divination of my presence bringing about destruction to the Suns clan was true. If I were to release one-third of my knowledge to the public, the advantage that the Suns clan has built up for generations would crumble.'He grinned at the image of his supposed ancestors cursing his deviousness. Even if he were to act selfless and apathetic by letting his family trample all over his existence, deep down inside himself was the need to pluck some ribs out of their ribcage.'I am not some saintly sage that would willingly offer my limbs as a sacrifice to their every will. I am an imperfect human being who seeks recompense.'Saying that quote in his mind made him nod subconsciously, proud of his words—words that could go down in history if he were to publish them to the world. The world he was on was called Tellus. It could be described as boundless, with countless unexplored locations. Existences capable of traversing its colossal surface area could be labeled as go

A lush of vegetation could be seen below as a Golden Wyvern puppet traversed it. Winds brushed past its metallic wings, yet its passengers did not feel any sort of discomfort. Hours of travel had already taken a toll on their mana reserves, and the long silence on the way was really vexing for them. "We are getting close," Mart Suns said to his other four companions. They had to travel afar from the imperial capital of Skyfire to a city at the edge of the nation for a reason. "Finally. It was stifling on the way here." Carter Suns gave his opinion as he looked at the reason for all of their troubles. At the rear end of the flying puppet was a boy at the young age of fifteen. His features were that of noble birth, with handsome charms under his black hair. The teen's eyes were black and despondent as he viewed the fast-moving scenery below. "Tsk. What a pain!" Mart sneered in discontent when he saw the indifferent attitude of the teen. "Kid, you should at least be thankful. We had
